Concorde Queen of the skies

Most beautiful aircraft ever. I miss her so. I would see 3 Concordes every day as I live near JFK Airport. Her distinctive roar is missed as well. I was fortunate to fly on "Alpha-Bravo" in 1979. I always considered her as a lady but the French, I believe, call her "Le Concorde". Why?

I can remember Concordes last flight. I was a relatively new employee at BA and all the aircarft lined up either side of the runway when concorde came in. When it was taxiing all the deicing crews were spraying the aircraft and when it lined up at the gate hundreds of airport employees were surrounding the aircraft. It's a shame they still don't fly.

There is four settings for the nose.

1. Fully up with visor this is selected for supersonic flight.

2. visor down with nose up for prolonged subsonic flight

3. Nose 5 degrees down for grater visibility on take off and taxing.

4. Nose 12.5 degrees down for grater visibility upon approach and landing

Hi TonyF'lli, Tu-144 was superb. That accident ended their dream for SST export, but it ended ours too because it finished off the SST buyers (esp' Iran's King at the time) making the production a loss. In the end only the makers flew it. Now all three of us are without the a/c. The irony is that the US awoke the Tu-144 for flight testing. Tu-144 and Concorde were so similar. Maybe ex-WWII German engineers or just plain old espionage on both sides were common denominators.

Efforts are being made by the Save Concorde Group and Club Concorde [ex Concorde pilots and others] to have the Concorde back in the air by 2012, where she belongs. Let's hope they achieve this...

Well, yes and no.

It took me a while to make this video. The footage comes from a friend at the BBC.

I chose the song because I felt that Concorde's commercial life was cut short. Also, she was and is the Queen of the Skies. It all seemed to fit pretty well.

The Timewatch Docu only shows people displaying their memorabilia to this music.

Nice tribute and I love the music to. I'm a huge fan of Concorde and have a large collection of Concorde memorabilia. I have been lucky to have flown on her as well (Lon-NY)...a fantastic experience..and I'm asn old 'Queen' fan to ever since I bought their 'Seven Seas of Rye' single way back in 1974!

The Tupolev-144 was a counterfeit of the Concorde.

Engineers from France and United Kingdom made defective plans because they knew spies will try to take the plans of the Concorde. Russian have fallen in the trap. The Tupolev was unable to flight at the Concorde speed, because they didn't have the Roll's Royce Olympus engines and Russian engines were more noisy than Concorde engines.

Tupolev was filled with the defects Concorde's engineers have added to the faked plans.

Concorde can only be maintained by Air France or British Airways engineers. The production of Concorde was stopped in 1979. There were only 16 Concorde flying since 1979 all used by Air France or British Airways. Concorde was not allowed to fly in the Americain airspace because people complained about the supersonic "Bang" made by the Concorde when it was flying.

It was allowed to fly only over the ocean, when Concorde arrived in JFK it didn't have to fly at the supersonic speed. But if it had to fly from LAX to JFK Concorde may have flew a lot over the land and people at supersonic speed. It was the reason why all the flight around the world were cancelled, people complained about the noise made by Concorde. If you understand french you can go on Wikipedia France, you can find an article with a lot of details about it.
