But your sitting posture affected your breath, that's why you had to stop in between a phrase. Try sitting properly next time and you'll sing a lot better.
@jake110118 glad you liked it! i think it took me a couple of months to get comfortable with it. I put it on a casette, slowed down the recording, and practiced it that way, just picking out one or two pattern notes at a time, and eventually, figuring out all the notes, and putting a chord on them. there's not a whole lot of variety -- once you get the main 3 or 4 chord patterns down, it's just a matter of stringing them together to make the song.
Great job, how lovely it sounds, you're a great musican :) damn it sounds so good! I've never heard this kind of pattern before, I wish I had these notes ^^ Great job and keep it up! :)
Thanks! this is how Simon and Garfunkel play it -- well, it's my best attempt at how they play it, I should say. I think there's a couple minor hitches in there where I just improvised. I saw how Simon played it on "Concert at Central Park", saw that his hand basically moves back and forth in 2 positions on the neck, and thought "I can do this". I spent many hours with a slow playback of the song, and a guitar, working out the finger patterns and the notes.
I'm considering putting up a "how to" on this, as several people have hinted at wanting to know how. There's not that many chords, the right-hand fingers are more-or-less doing the same thing thru the whole song, just a matter of knowing what to do and when, and lots of practice.
thanks! I have heard Sarah Brightman's version -- my daughter really likes her music, and I heard it that way. I learned this from watching Simon & Garfunkel's performance at Central Park, Sept.19,1981. Paul Simon's just moving his hand up and down the guitar the whole time, so I tried to learn it. took awhile....but i don't think it's as tough as it might appear to be.
mine are 23,21,20 and 15. hehe my guitar room used to be the walk-in closet in our bedroom (sometimes it still is). one night about 5 years ago i think, our oldest came in with a cam-corder and videotaped me playing a bunch of stuff. it's still around here somewhere. now my guitar room is the former bedroom of child #2 where i can have my laptop and webcam. making guitars eh? that sounds really cool. keep jammin (or the fingers will soften up!) 38 years-wow! about 28 years for me.
but I should add, it's not an exclusive guitar room, there's a bunch of other stuff in here too. I guess it's the "when I play guitar, I go there" room.
Thanks so much! whoa, there's a mandolin cover of this out there??
>>i need to practice more.
>>three kids, good resone, bad exscuse
Ah......I have 4 kids, and I think I did loads more guitar playing/learing back when they were small, than now? having the kids may be just the excuse TO practice. I expect yours will, as mine did, have a very positive reaction :o) I learned the songs Scarborough Fair, Bye Bye Love, Under the Boardwalk when they were all little, and they love these songs!
Awesome cover! I love this song. Can you tell me where to find the tab for the correct chords that you are using? Did you learn it by ear? Thanks, Shane
Thanks! Basically, I learned it by ear, listening over and over to a slightly slowed-down recording, until I could isolate notes/patterns, then picking one or two notes at a time out on the guitar, then picking a couple more notes out....and coming up with suitable chords. Eventually, it all came together, maybe after a couple months? I'm not sure exactly how long it took me to learn it.
Like your soul in the hammer on pull off right before the lyric "then she'll be a true love of mine" and bass line transition during the lyric "Remember me to the one who lives there".
dude, this is EFFFF'N cool. sounds beautiful !!!!!

@brooktz thanks! whew that one would take a bit of work, and a very high voice -- actually I would have to sing it an octave lower.
