@mitch2600 I'm pretty sure the laser burns are always kinda "there". If you have any old CDs around from the olden days, take a look at one that still plays well; I bet it has a decent amount of scratches and marks on it. Someone told me growing up that the laser will keep working over the scratch part to try and make it playable or readable....its just that if it is so deep or FUBAR'd then there's little to no chance of recovering the playability that once existed prior to.

I brought it in to Blockbuster where they put it in the machine and it didn't fix it. Any other ideas? It was in for half an hour, should I go back and retry?

I will take it to a videostore tomorrow and see if they can fix it...
what I'm afraid the most is the fear of having damaged my xbox forever... but I don't think that is the case since the knock was really light...

I thought it was bulls*** about toothpaste working, I got a real bad laser burn on my disk then layered it with toothpaste and scrubbed the hell out of it and it gave me just enough time to install it to my Hard Drive. (Had to put layer it with toothpaste about 3 times) :)

if you want to remove the scratches use bin laden cleaning fluid (known as Brasso in UK) this works unless scratches reach to the disk core. "bin laden cleaning fluid" see video on utube

@ghostoo666 this sounds like a hardware issue if its doing it randomly. More than likely, your laser may be malfunctioning or maybe it is out of alignment somehow if it keeps making gashes on your discs without knocking it over.
The only solution to not scratching the discs would be installing bumpers inside the 360 unit, but that is not to correct laser burn, that is just to stop the discs from getting scratched if it falls over.
Is your 360 out of warranty? Call M$oft and see whats up
@ghostoo666 Just so you know too, I work for walmart and most stores WILL NOT under any circumstances, return a 360 game with the perfect circle scratch. It's not covered under any warranties and we're told to look for that and deny any game that has it. Sucks.
forunately, a store called Trade n' Play has this neat, expensive machine that rids discs of scratches, it either fills in the scratch or takes off a thin layer of the disc, i'm not quite sure
anyhow it really works and only costs about $3 per disc to use it. Plus if you buy a game from the store (since most of their games are used), they put it in the machine for free. I'm upset this store isn't very well known, it's a helluva lot better than gamestop

Either upload games to your HDD straight away, that way as long as the xbox can recognize the disc, it will play. OR if you dont mind spending abit of coin, pop into somewhere like Gamestation and get the disc cleaned (this DOES work though it may need more than the once over).
@InBloomCobain this is very true, also you can try and find those 'disc condoms' that will help prevent future scratches, but I've heard these can impair gameplay/lag etc
The Easiest way to sort this out is to find a freind with the same game, install it you your harddrive by instead of pressing a on the game at the dashboard you press y and then install to harddrive should be on there , then with the disc you have it only needs a small ammount of information to verify that you have the game and then it will play for you :) hope this helps :)

I have Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox 360 there is a big scratch in the shape of a ring with 5 scratches. Every time I play it, it says take the disk out and clean it with a soft cloth. I have tried it, it doesn't work. I was wondering what store to go to. I have to know fast because this is my brothers Xbox and its also his game. Either upload games to your HDD straight away, that way as long as the xbox can recognize the disc, it will play. OR if you dont mind spending abit of coin, pop into somewhere like Gamestation and get the disc cleaned (this DOES work though it may need more than the once over).

@InBloomCobain this is very true, also you can try and find those 'disc condoms' that will help prevent future scratches, but I've heard these can impair gameplay/lag etc

The Easiest way to sort this out is to find a freind with the same game, install it you your harddrive by instead of pressing a on the game at the dashboard you press y and then install to harddrive should be on there , then with the disc you have it only needs a small ammount of information to verify that you have the game and then it will play for you :) hope this helps :)

I have Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox 360 there is a big scratch in the shape of a ring with 5 scratches. Every time I play it, it says take the disk out and clean it with a soft cloth. I have tried it, it doesn't work. I was wondering what store to go to. I have to know fast because this is my brothers Xbox and its also his game. He is in the army and has several Xbox 360's but when he comes down he always plays on the Xbox. He is coming down for Christmas and I need to know fast what store.

I just moved my xbox and pwned my copy of black ops. I have a big ass ring near the outside of the disc.
It either freezes with a black screen, or it thinks that black ops is a dvd and brings up an xbox logo/dvd menu

My dad moved my 360 with Black Ops in it and now only zombies and some mp maps work...
And in Romania, especially in my region, there is only one place where you can get your games, and they don't have any freakin cleaning devices :(.
