  • Can totally get the Dream Theater influence in Planet X's work

  • @McDiddy9999 i bet they have more technique and better riffs

  • i think thats the bassist with the super small dick! haha so ive heard from a girl who dated him. whats his name again?

  • @yngvae2 wtf does that matter to you?

  • @yngvae2 You must mean Rufus Philpot. Hah.

  • @LameGuitar You are obviously an intellectual giant who has graced me with your thought processes . Oh happy day .

  • that band is better instrumental.yeah¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Sounds just like Holdsworth

  • @HotRodSixString No one sounds just like Holdsworth!

  • @HotRodSixString Holdsworth wrote these parts man. They just had to find a touring guitarist to play his parts. He was only there in the studio.

  • Hello everyone.

I'm here to talk about the existence of a brand new musical experience called Idaea. The influence ranges from Planet X, Meshuggah, Dream Theater, Chick Corea to Contemporany and Experimental music. It would be really cool if you visited our myspace and added coments, thoughts and opinions!:

Thanks for the time! Stay tuned for more!

  • I LOVE how he solos over the pattern live ... man Virgil IS planet X

  • virgils feet crushing the sound quality.. beats from heaven and hell together.. grüße alle

  • I love Tony MacAlpine, but I wish they could get Alex Machacek on full time...he is just insanely good...totally original style and truly innovative.

  • greath band....but dude, you are a terrible camera-man

  • TERRIBLE COSA !!!!!

  • youtube.com/watch?v=nW9M3cG3dLE Check it out!

  • Their ok but not as complex as some other bands that are out there. After saying that, music doesn't need to be complex to be incredible

  • @franticdisembowlment

are you serious? like you're not joking right?

  • @franticdisembowlment They're the most complex band on the planet, it's not their fault if you need your music dumbed down

  • @MindstormRecs Aha, if you choose to believe that, that's fine with me

  • DAmn they need a Guitarist that can fucking keep up.

  • did anyone else see the bassist yawn at about 1:40.

  • These are mathematicians behind instruments

  • Derek is a genious,I like his style

  • i'm not gonna lie though. derek gave dream theater something else. he may not have been the most talented but i love his style. jordan rudess just gets old after a while

  • Without Tony this band is just people giving Virgil Donati something to jam behind.

  • Brett Garsed > Tony

    Holdsworth >god

  • i just saw him play ay chops hes a beast and he singed my sticks Dorian Phelps Remember the name

  • oh my God, Alex is so intimidated to start his guitar solo.. i don't blame him.. Only GOD allan Holdsworth can play that..

  • Virgil gets almost lost at 1:28... : D

  • Where's Tony MacAlpine?

  • Tony left the band before Quantum came out to tour with Steve Vai but I believe he will be returning for the new Planet X album, I'm soooo happy he's back!!!!

  • Same here, man!!

  • hey i hope your right. not the same without him

  • who's on guitar?

  • that's Alex Machacek if my eyes doesnt fail me ^.^ nice solo

  • I believe that's brett garsed

  • uh no, its not

  • I'm not saying who's a better musician. I'm just saying that tony was involved in the more collective songs, instead of songs like this one which are just Virgil Donati showcasing.

  • Where are the solos???

  • If this had Jimmy Johnson and Allan Holdsworth playing as well, I think I would explode!

  • planet x is great. i personally like On The Virg better (same drummer). i just wish they would come out with more than 1 album lol

  • this is the best band i ve seen lately.

quantum is the best album ever

  • planet x....thank you god for creating that motherfucker super group!

  • i seriously reckon virgil could be in a better band than this....... their songs are honestly not that good

  • Virgil writes most of the material for Planet X, and if you don't realise how good they are then you still have a lot to begin to learn and understand :)

  • Then you look at the insane technical and mathematical stuff these guys do. They're progressive, which is among the hardest types of music to play, if not the hardest.

Please, tell us what kind of group do you think Virgil Donati should be in? I'm sure we'd all love to know.

  • some people call this uninspired, too technical, thus unemotional. My answer to them is always 'then you never played an instrument in your entire life". This is THE perfection. I rate them higher than Spiral Architect - it all makes so much sense and even as complex as it is, it is very, very likable and it makes one move. Who else can do that with such kind of music but genious? Spiral Arch. has the best one minute of music I've ever heard, though (my personal opinion)

  • Exactly! That's exactly the mindset most of the music world needs to adopt.

It's hard to be in a progressive group and write impressively technical stuff while still being able to create emotions and, as you said, "make one move." These guys are gods among men.

  • Occam's Razor? fuck yeah!

and the unison part at the end of Cloud Constructor is one of the most if not THE most awesome, touching, brutal and inspiring, tight and well played unisons I've ever heard

  • Yes, yes, and YES!!! I think it's almost two minutes there, and it tops everything I've ever heard anyone play.

  • THis one, since he writes the majority of the music too, he's perfect with his own world of creativity. I LOVE IT!!

  • @PaganWarDrummer actually, Virgil describes the music as Heavy Fusion. It definitely contains, jazz, rock, and progressive elements in it.

  • Same as On the Virg, I know. It's progressive, which is an umbrella term for about a thousand different microgenres.

  • @PaganWarDrummer i used think i knew what these guys were doing, but i'm not so sure anymore! their music keeps getting more complex as the years go by! this is music that aliens listen to! LOVE THESE GUYS!

  • @PaganWarDrummer

CAB,the latest"theatre de marionnettes",where,he's incredible!!!!! all the tracks are good!

  • @PaganWarDrummer also latin jazz, and technical death metal, these are my top 3 music genres even i listen about every music i can from every place in the world. arabic music is also astonishing.

  • Damn right! I became obsessed with Arabic music after discovering microtonalism.

  • @PaganWarDrummer

technical and mathematical they're Jazz Fusion

  • @PaganWarDrummer Virgil Donati Should be in a group with Ron Jarzombek, Paul Wardingham, Franck Hemanny and Jordan Rudess called Zero..

  • @PaganWarDrummer

    Dream Theater now. :p

  • @VanishingDigital

Har har. I'd be okay with it, but Donati's got this thing going on where any music project he's in has to be about him, and that's not what Dream Theater is about. That said, I'm sure the others could keep that part of him under control.

  • @PaganWarDrummer

Nothing at all against Virgil, but I'd rather see Mark Zonder in DT. Or maybe Dave DiCenso ;)

  • @PaganWarDrummer

yeah. i love Donati and i'd ADORE to see him write dream theater drum tracks to see what would happen, but i agree, i don't think it would work very well.

  • @VanishingDigital

I wonder who it's going to be. I'm actually kind of excited to see who, despite the fact that I know they'll never be better than Portnoy.

I've heard a few guys say Mangini. That'd be cool, but it'd suck for me because I'm going to Berklee and I want him to be there when I do to teach me.

  • @PaganWarDrummer

TBH i think that portnoy isn't the best drummer out there. i really really like virgil, just cuz of the way he plays. hah.

i'd be cool for mangini, or even marco minneman. only problem with marco is that i don't think he'd get along well with the rest of the group tbh. if virgil or mike mangini joins them, i'd love to see them write better drum tracks haha.

My friend matt dahl is going to berklee this year. i told him to look out for mike and to meet him if he could.

  • @PaganWarDrummer im goin to berklee too on a full guitar scholarship! ill seeya there mate!

  • @ShredFever92

    Wicked, I'll be looking!

  • I can't get enough of them personally.

  • thing is, there's nothing better than planet x, not even outside planet earth, THEY'RE FUCKIN PLANET X

  • god damn virgil! He's so insanely good...independence out the ass...this is the kind of drum part you have to study just to know what the hell he's playing

  • great picture quality but bad sound quality. love the piano in the intro. and everything else...

  • Great piece.I love the dissonant intervals.Bad sound quality though.

  • I think Planet X is one of the best bands going, but this number is disappointingly drab and uninspired.

  • This song has such an amazing intro! Who could replace Virgil?

    Thanks for uploading!

  • best band ever

  • Thanks for sharing this great video

  • lol the end of the guitar

  • Who is this guitarist ?

  • Alex Machachek)))

  • how was he?

  • @homer1977simpson I believe he teaches at GIT now

  • Thanks for posting. Nice solo from Alex at the end.

  • Greeeeeat bass drums !! \o/

  • Thank you for this live footage of Planet X! Not much on You Tube

  • Hey Thanks! The audio and visual are even synched up!
