have seen working with toddlers or older are on the very moderate end of the spectrum is that reconnection through joining-in a child's natural intent of affect ; (going to his/her world), establishing emotionally meaningful joint attention, then begins to set up or strengthen the emotional foundations between, for example, the amygdala (i.e., primitive all or nothing reactions) and the pre-frontal cortex (or praxis, i.e., ideation, motor-planning and execution of inter-actions).
@Neilgs, glad you are into joint attention training as that one has been scientifically proven as meaningful by Dr. Christina Whalen by behavioral techniques.
Extraordinarily well explained and quite accurate. The only thing that I would add is that there are neurological differences (e.g., less hemispheric connectivity between between different parts or certain cortical and subcortical areas; enlarged amygdala, etc. found in some). However, and this is the crucial point, and I could not have explained it better ,that because what neuroscience have found in terms of Neuroplasticity, the ability for re-wiring or re-connectivity the changes I/we
