jamie was the heart and soul of reuben, his song writing and personality gave the band its great reputation among its fans and his voice and diction gave them a distinctive sound that no other band had, i agree that the music is great and jamie straight singing isnt as good as in some bands but he can switch between screaming and singing very quikly, which is hard to do in a recording, let alone live while playing the guitar as well. Reuben needed jamie as much as they deserved more fans. R.I.P.

Sound is pretty good on this I reckon, bass is a bit loud, but I like that - at least it's not horrendously clangy like on the mean fiddler DVD.

really? I was immidiately turned off when I saw him using a pick & thrashing about like he didnt know any better. I teach bass myself, I suppose if he gets invited to do clinics he must be doing something right. perhaps I spoke too soon

Playing with a pick shouldn't be turned straight off straight away. I enjoy playing bass with my fingers, but sometimes playing a pick just suits some music more. Like a mate of mine, he's an amazing bassist, but recently sessioned for some band who asked him to use a pick, which he hadn't used for years.

its not so much use of a pick in itself, its more the pick combined with bad right hand technique (constant downstrokes etc). at one point he actually said to the singer he couldnt play one of the songs standing up. if you cant play standing up, raise your bass. it dosent make you any cooler to have it so low you cant play, you just look foolish.

should you take the time to watch him play carefully you'll see that to.

theres a lot more going on then you think.

theres hardly any musicians who play songs and rock out like that anymore.

Not being funny, but if you could get on that stage, play what he plays and look that good whilst doing it then you should clearly be on mainstage next year. I doubt you will be though.

Using a pick does not make anyone a rubbish bassist. Thats just a ridiculous reason to critisise such a hard working, and incredibly talented band.
