@xrayfeeney A three inch pipe doesn't flow nearly as much as four inch one will. Since most bottom drains siphon water from the pond with gravity, a smaller pipe diameter with a slower flow rate will increase the chances of debris becoming lodged in the pipe. Unclogging a pipe that's underneath a pond is no fun at all.
If using four inch pipe is a problem, you can always attach a reducer fitting to the bottom drain to switch to immediately switch to a three inch pipe.
or get a net and clean it your self thats the joy of having a pond i thought

I guess Im in trouble then. I have already cemented the 3" drin in and put down the liner. Will have to make the best of it. Thanks

I am interested in learning more about how bottom drains work. What powers them etc.

@bighatbulls It has a 4" PVC pipe connection for the filter system and a 1.5" PVC air connection that powers the air diffuser.
