Brian's guitar work was live, but he was playing on top of the original track, which includes guitar parts. It's not like Queen NEVER mimed, but they tried to avoid it at all costs.
I hate to say it, but I don't think ALL that Guitar work was live either. Apart from the instance where you can hear Guitar and not see Brian playing, the stuttering effect on the Guitar (the tremolo) is usually controlled by pedals...unless Brian had a pedal tech behind the scenes
