  • Crying tears of manliness, what a performance, what a song. I'm so grateful that today (tough late) I discovered this man. RIP Roy!

  • Great song great guitar player

  • Look this maybe Roy's best ever song after his duo with Kanika Kress on "These Arms of Mine" by Otis Redding...it is for sure one of his best guitar blessings.

  • I was lucky enough to see Roy in one of his last gig at the Village Green in Melbourne Australia early 1988. Absolutely awesome and etched in to my memory forever. Should have been in the top ten of the Rolling Stone top 100 Guitarists instead of coming in at #57. R.I.P.

  • Roy does amazing things with the Telecaster; things no one else comes close to. I love it. But, as guitar ballads go, I can't help comparing Beck's rendition of Stevie Wonder's "'Cause We've Ended as Lovers" and I'd have to prefer Beck both live and recorded. Beck's versatility and sensitivity to tonal variation are comparable to Buchanan's; however, the passion that Jeff is able to wrench from the instrument has yet to be excelled (and I've played a Telecaster all my life) ...g

  • I have been playing guitar for 25 years...and this...will always be...forever one of my all time favorite guitar ballads. As will Roy buchanan always will be in my mind...as a guitar legend...that created my style..which is why i am typing this during my own band practice with my band.

  • ...yes, later in heaven ROY could give me some hours how to get this tone ! it is not only the tele,

and Peter Green & Gary wil discuss about the Greeny-Les Paul-deal in the 70ies, i will listen to them all & learn how to treat a guitar right !!! LES ('added to playlist 'sadest music' !!!)

  • telemaster...

  • Music to paint by

  • Sublime.

Nothing beets this version including the original release, in my humble opinion.

  • You were always the real deal, Mr Buchanan, See you in heaven one day!

  • 素晴らしい!

  • Bitchin'!

  • this version is the better cause he is the creator of this song and there was just 1 roy not 2 Rest In Peace. You were and you ARE.

  • @911SIG Right on! With you all the way.

  • I have never heard another player get so much feel and emotion from a Tele as Roy.He continued to make bold , unique ,musical ,soulful and expressive statements ;it is little wonder that players such as Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page rate him so highly !

  • Happy Birthday Roy ! Thanks !!

  • Great sound

    Thanks a lot Mr Buchanan,

You still belong to the Greatest

    RIP

  • "If you listened to this tune all the way to the end, you just heard and felt God speak to ya - no small coincidence, the track is named The Messiah ....."

  • I go to youtube when ever I am down and I always watch Roy do his magic on the guitar. This is one of his best shows and He had a good band to back him up.R.I.P.

    Roy your music is timeless.

  • Mind blowing...

  • Oh guys!! see the passion of Gary Moore playing this and the poor motivation of Buchanan..... he was a great musician too but.... hes had no feeling enough playin, in my humble opinion.

  • @reyeror You're projecting your ideas of what something should sound like. But that's not what it should sound like according to Buchanan, and to me. This video I have played around 100 times in the past three years. It goes through my bones. I think gary's sound is rather superficial. You see how we all talk shit when we judge? The truth is, we differ. That's all.

  • @reyeror

Obviuosly there is no "better" or "worst" music ( unlike American Idol) especially live performance is not a contest. Roy wrote this so Gary could never have played it if Roy didn't create it. Modern technology blinds us to the fact that music only exists in the moment and it is the magic of the musican to make the moment memorable. Our lives in the end are the in the moments of memory we collect. Pain suffering and beauty all stimulate our emotions and create memory

  • j'aime beaucoup la version de Gary Moore personnellement

  • I think, this version is "cleaner" then Gary's version, but both are fabulous...

  • oooooh yeah !!!

    thanks for sharing lee32uk !!!

wonderfuuul.... my favorite version of this song :))))

  • the scorpions and santana ripped this tune off with Still loving you and samba pa ti

  • @suckdachili got to admit they know have good tastes :))

  • love this !!!!!!!!!!

  • Check ou the version done by Dave Hines right here on Youtube, I think it ranks right up here with this one!

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing, thank you for posting.

  • gary's version is incredible, but i like this version a little better

  • in fact we are still all humans and we will alwasy have dumb comment like he is the best or they are 2 diffretn style you cant compare we are not allow to say what is the best musician and even how to disrbie what music is. IF THE MUSICIAN CAN MAKE YOU FEEL SOMETHING HE IS THE BEST.AND HOW CAN I SAY THAT IM STILL HUMAN. the music came from the beyond space and even far away

  • Still don't understand why many people insist to compare two guitarists just for the fact they have a guitar in their hands. So different rigs, style, mood, phraseology... By the way, if I'm not wrong, this song was written in 1971, Moore's one in 1978. I prefer Buchanan to Moor 'cause I find Buchanan a lot more instinctive and passionate.

  • so much ... they are so much who make us fly ... And i'm asking to you ...What they have now ??

I can answer they have nothing.. Except us ... Who can say how great they're was ...

remember when music was music ... when stupid guy's and musical comedy on tv want to sell us they're fucking shit whitout any soul, any mind anything ....

we 're born in the wrong time, when music is just buisness and booty shaking

god bless them to make us dream, please god take care of our god's the legends ofmusic

  • thanks so much for this, this song always makes me wanna cry happy tears...he is amazing

  • The Greats ,BUCHANAN, ATKINS,LES PAUL, always make it look easy....effortless

    Thanks for posting this lee32uk

Its natural excellence, something we all admire and strive for,

    Roy has it !!!!

  • What amazes me about guys like Roy Buchanan & Chet Atkins is how completely "Cool" they are. No sweat, No strain, all Natural and almost effortless.

Like the Guitar is a part of them.

  • Both are brilliant. Just different in their demeanor.

  • The one thing that really makes Roy Buchanan truly unique in my opinion is that he combines extremely sensitive playing, with virtuoso style. I cannot think of any musician who has this capacity, in rock, blues nor in classical music. This is why I always get shivers when listening to this

  • after all these years , the sound of Roy is still like yeasterday !!!

  • Beautiful song. Executed to perfection by Roy and covered astonishingly well by Gary Moore... there's no negative aspect to be had! Music is not about competition, and who's better and that sort of bollocks! Sone people just don't seem to get that guitar playing and music in general is an art form, not an olympic event where its about being better, faster, stronger... imo there's no measure for art! Thank god for Roy and Gary. Rest in peace!

  • Gary Moores version, in my opinion, is not in the same league as Buchanons . I think he is an amazing guitarist and I am In no way arguing that. However, in this particular occasion Buchanons original is unbeatable.

  • wow!

  • One shot of brandy for my friend Roy.....

  • Never a dry eye in the house after this one

  • I was watching the GM version and was total exhausted by the end. I thot, man I've never seen playing like that. I like RB version also. but, wish the sound quality was better to appreciate more.

  • Hendrix, Roy Buchanan, Gilmour. Listen and learn!

  • @djowens123 no you mean hendrix buchanan gilmour and moore

  • @elgrande1987 Hendrix ,Buchanan,Gilmour and Peter Green

  • @elgrande1987 hendrix buchanan, gilmour and angus young

  • @elgrande1987 Ok Hendrix, Roy Buchanan, Gilmour and Peter Green!

  • @djowens123 ok hendrix, buchanan, gilmour peter green and hanna montana jajajajaja just fucking around

  • This man had so much Talent...Its a shame he isnt with us anymore

  • Both this and Gary Moore's version are sublime and exude passion, skill and musican ship. They are both humbling to listen to. If you are arguing as to who is best then you have a narrow apreciation of music and perhaps should therefore not be concerned with anyone but your favourite - you should then keep your opinion to yourself as more broadminded and musically receptive people are not interested in your childish statements.

  • @blewi1 Wise words.

  • @blewi1

Yes, this is true. The only thing I would say is that Roy came first and was the inspiration for Gary. But that is how music works—one artist build on another. But there could be no Gary without Roy, which is just a way of saying I must give him his props.

  • @blewi1

Agree with you. You can have Favorites, but it's probably not saying who or what is best..

  • @blewi1 Amen. Beautifully said!!

  • @blewi1 I agree... Just what Roy said (there is no # 1) Roy and Gary are amongst my favorites! Technigue is great... Heart is the truth!!! Screw Rolling Stone and they're ratings!!!!

  • this version may sound easier than Gary's, but i reality its the opposite, its almost very hard to create the sounds Roy created in this version! while pple think its hard to play garys , which is not, its just he add his style in it..Roys version is simple yet hard to play :)

  • this music is too great for human ear to hear it !

  • I was at his Agora show in the 70's in Cleveland,OH. He kicked my ass! The best I've ever seen.

  • Roy was the Master, the guitar was the slave and the master loved the slave and the slave loved the master and the love was felt by all.....

  • yeah people who compare are dullards with limited capacity . A million or more players brought guitar to where it is in our lexicon of knowledge . You will never hear of some of the best players in a world of 7 billion people for what ever reason...a myriad of reasons, so ranking is just .....well rank. Shut up and listen and learn and then go play yer guitar fella , cause there is always some one out there who will get the drop on you . Roy knew it .No one is special in this life !!!!!

  • WOW I'm so glad I got to see him live. He brings tears to eyes, he is the best

  • @Kristopful Yeah that's kind of I mean: he's baring his soul out there, but not making a show of it.

  • The greatest tragedy of this is its matter-of-factness

  • @Nickschades What do you mean? "The matter-of -factness". Are you talking about Roy being very "statuesque" on stage...I've heard this before. Roy did not need to posture, pose and strut around the stage. His mind was focused 100% on the emotion of the music. All movement impairs the quality of playing. If you dont feel the emotion thats ok. Rob. Fripp of King Crimson gave lessons to many greats like Page & Co. He mostly played sitting down. Best position. Like the great classical players.

  • Well bugger me..

  • The Big Note He found it. Murder sucks Racism sucks

  • The Big Note He found it.

  • R.I.P. Roy! We miss you.

  • I cried like a baby when I saw this, and I am one big tough guy!!!

  • so, so very good!! Playing with feeling can't be learned..

I love to see the audio with it, thanks for dropping this here! I know the song for more then27 years, now the video makes it even better... thanks

  • Whatta warm and crying sound of his Tele!

  • my grandpa was an amazing man and musician and this was one of his favorite songs. near makes me cry when i hear this song. miss you grandpa!

  • AWESOME, RIGHTIOUS, AMAZING THIS MAN WAS RESPECTED AND KNOWN BY SO MANNY OF HIS TIME PLYED WIHT HENDRIX CLAPTON AN SO MANNY MORE!!!!!

  • awesome...

  • yes- for sure roy can play guitar.

  • a really great version, but no offense, he looks like Gary´s apprentice, in fact i can totally play Roy´s version but definitely not Gary´s one, I like this one as well, peace just my opinion in this very sad sad day for me, my guitar master has passed away

  • @alfbenitez

So because you can play this version and not Gary's makes Roy, Gary's apprentice? Gary's "Perisienne walkways is basically a rendition of this. fact is Roy wrote this, not Gary.

  • @TheSlixty i like Gary´s best, but the fact is that without Roy´s writing there wouldn´t be a Gary´s version, i agree with you. Anyway it´s just my opinion and i didn´t say that Roy is, i said that looks like, but peace anyway

  • Gary Moore is Gary Moore and Roy Buchanan is Roy Buchanan. They were two great guitar players and I think good people too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks for posting this , absolute class,an underated genius

  • thanksfor posting this , absolute class,an underated genius

  • Gary Moore is no Roy and Roy is no Gary. But the both are great! RIP Gary and Roy

  • @MrPulchinela right on!

  • roy buchanan, or the one that pushed the electric guitar to its very limits.

maybe one of the greatest guitarists ever.

  • R.I.P. GARY (Que cliche queen song)

Thanks for helping spread this great song.

  • the Messiah is about to get busy!

Gary has joined Roy for the contest of the afterlife.

you both were too young RIP

  • roy has passed .his music still stands.

  • One sweet guitarist. I can barely fathom the passion he brought to the instrument, but I know it moves me.

  • Yeah, you're right. They all can play big time. Peace

  • First I saw Gary Moores cover of this song, and now? I see this...

Master Roy, knowns about what he was playing.

  • @renniesontop

I think you mean Gary Moore is no Roy Buchanan.........

  • @lee32uk nah I think he's about right tbh, its all opinion though.

  • @THINLIZZYFANno1

Of course ;) Both fine guitarists, and a sad loss to the world of 'proper' music.

  • @lee32uk no he isnt,,,,, he was better!!!!! now they can have a play off in heaven!!! and wen its our turn to go, we will find out that they are brilliant in gods eyes!!!! r.i.p both of them!!!!

  • @renniesontop AMEN lee

  • @renniesontop I love Gary Moore and his tribute songs to Roy Buchanan and Peter Green.

But they bear no emotional resembalence to the originals. They are great tributes. Gary Moore is a great guitarist in his own right. Lets leave it at that.

  • @renniesontop

Thank God hes not Gary Moore- Roys way deeper and more soulful.

  • @renniesontop

You just don't understand Roy's subtly. I have heard both versions a thousand times, it's a close one. Roy is the winner.

  • @renniesontop

    thank god for that

  • @renniesontop

If he was Gary Moore, he wouldn't be Roy Buchanan.

  • @renniesontop

And Gary Moore's no Roy Buchanan. Fool.

  • @renniesontop Agreed.

  • awesome!!! chills up my spine!!!

  • It wasn't suicide... I talked to a drummer who played with Roy at one time and he told me the same thing... and I've read articles that have stated the same... but everyone else can choose to believe what they want to believe...

  • @videotrexx How do you hang yourself in a cell.? If you've ever been in a cell you know they take your belt off you, even your shoes. Even if you got a belt...how do you hang yourself with that.? Too many people die in police cells for my comfort or peace of mind.

If they did it, then fukin bad misery on them for taking a genius of guitar from us.

  • I am the #1,most bestest, qualified guitarist(have official I.D.)in the world.I have listened to a lot of Hendrix so you know I can play with the playmasters like Stairway to Heaven.Mr. Buchanan has always been on that big list of Baddas* players.R U as great as me though?Maybe Roy sometime in a lucky, special place.Qualifications is my best;the card, listening to Hendrix and things on the old radio types.Roy or Me,best gutarist??? Thanks,a head of time.

  • @austingunsmoke ahhh most bestest. i hope your guitar playing is better than your grammar

  • @EMGIRL1234 hey there, grammar is my stammer but everyday is the bestest(have official I.D.)guitarist and that is me.Don't tell me,I listen to Hendrix!Crazy Lady, you know you are the hearrt breaker, crazy lady ,I want to go home,I don't do harm, crazy Lady .Roy is about the best above the 25th fret and Let's just play the 70th fret and you know it's just me and Roy.Are you a guitar girl?Charo is the most awesome female guitarist. The way is everyone, yeah?!Yes,beginning, now, new, fresh Roy is best(&me)

  • @austingunsmoke ok. i do play guitar

  • @EMGIRL1234 great for U to have the 6 string fever. No better place to visit than a Roy Buchanan video.Actually,I gotta drop my accent here and just say that I truly admire Roy.He was always one of those "Diamond in the Rough" players who could play very powerfully while at the same time haunt you with his eerie, bends or shakes of vibrato.I've been listening to "Messiah" for years & each time it still touches soul. It's

    Cool that you're a player,have fun.

  • every moment we let him in our thoughts and heart ,,,,hes always ,,,,now ,,,

  • Wow... what a tune. I can feel the emotion coming out of that Tele in waves.

  • As Roy said to someone in the audience :- "There is NO number one..but thanks for saying it..."

People on YouTube are getting a little too obsessed with who is the Best guitarist etc.....all the great guitarists have their strength's and weakness's. No "one" is master of all style's, teqniques and emotional output. This applies to all musicians and genra. Let us just enjoy their great music. Period.

  • emotion explode!! excellentt

  • My mother is Lauressa, Roys and judys daughter.Lauressa married Chip(Alton Korzendorfer).I put Chip in jail who is a suckingsonofabitch! I put him in jail not my mom who KNEW what was going on.Roy is the only thing im proud of on my side of the family and im aloud to speak it without your 2 cents or approval!

  • @misfits77777 Ok sure, I just find it funny that at least 13 people who are releated to Roy are all on youtube telling everyone about it. Its so stupid. And why write two comments? Did you have to do a bit of research on Buchanan and come back with more lies.

  • vasagram- Not a name dropper. I speak with my gram on a constant basis.how many kids did they have cause its NOT 6, they also adopted Matt. Only fam knows that buddy.Im aloud to say im proud. My gram opened the casket at his funeral and saw the contusion on his head OK! You werent there.Ignorant of u to send me a personal message claming im not who i say i am.U dont know me.I dont get anything from saying im his GD.I watch his vids and wish i saw him more than 1 in my life.I was 4 when he died.

  • Every time i look at a page with Buchanan on it every one is claiming to be related or a close friend!!! Stop talking shit and just enjoy the video. know one likes lying name droppers.

  • Потрясающе!

  • i probebly said this a bunch of times for this video but this man is a fucking Legend!

And a pioneer to Rock n' Roll

  • He is brilliant plays with such feeling but it also hurt my ears very shrill sound

  • Roy was a dear friend here. he played with alot of my friends (myfirst husband) His music and talent is beyond. He had a way of making us all feel. This song says so much of him. I truly love his insight and talent.

  • between Danny Gatton and Roy Buchanan, the rest of us should just pack up, go home and lock ourselves in the dark with their albums for a while. maybe, if we practice 23 hours a day, we might be this good by the time we die! (sigh!)

  • the telecaster is the best electric guitar design, ever. it's design is perfect. fender got everything right right out of the shoot. i've played for more than 20 years, and owned and played pretty much everything, but i always come back to a telecaster.

  • CHICKEN PICKIN!

  • To misfits, and you should be proud very proud

  • As far as the commiting suicide he was picked up by the police for public intoxication. The put him in a cell for the nite. They went to check on him and he was hanging in his cell.THing is he had a huge contusion on his head. Its thought the police knocked him in the head, and when they did the killed and staged the hanging.Thats what i believe.Im his grand daughter and damn proud of it.

  • Comment removed

  • @misfits77777 I have seen at least 10 people claiming to be related or very close friends of Buchanan's and it sounds like your just using his name to support your conspiracys. He had tried on two other occasions to take his own life so suicde for Buchanan is not as far fetched as people belive.

  • the arpeggiated chords at 4:38 and the following change in mode or scale, whatever it is, always sends chills down my spine.

  • Didn't Roy Buchanan commit suicide in a jail cell somewhere in the US? I can't remember...Damn, he can sure play...What a loss...

  • @annbaskervill Yeah... although there are rumors that cops beat him to death and made it look like a suicide. I don't know how true that is.

  • @ifightaliens I've never heard that, but cops are assholes...I'll think of his music instead of how he died. I guess that's the best thing to do.

  • How cud 22 of u possibly dislike this......

  • Roy was the the "Tele-manipulator.".... Boy, could he manipulate that Telecaster into other realms.

Why the hell he was not recognized by the mainstream public as a great, master of the guitar.?, yet the great guitarist's of that era "knew" he was great....that, unfortuatly is show bizz...which Roy did not want nothing to do with.

  • @Kristopful

He didn't have enough hit records/songs. Nor radio play appeal. :-/ Maybe.

  • You da man Roy! You were one of the best. No one could ever take that away from you.

  • that is THE real sound of a guitar crying

  • Would a tele then be the guitar of choice for making the thing "cry" like this?

  • @goofywilly Any guitar with a volume control and lots of sustain will do...

  • Legend .....

  • standn' there makn' that geetar cry like it's no big deal. KICK IT MOFO!!!

  • Legend....

  • I also used to get wrapped around the axle trying to rate guitar players until I read an interview with Frank Marino. He also had no use for rankings or comparisons. How can you compare Picasso to Michangelo? Both artists, You couldn't put Clapton in The Grateful Dead, You can only enjoy the art of the artist. There are a lot of GREAT technicians but an artist that doesn't make.

  • @122010feb

Yeah, there really is no "best". We all have our opinions based on what we like and we all like different guitar styles. Roy was a great guitarist, no question about it. So was Danny Gatton, and so is Gary Moore. Gary generally plays a Les Paul and his sound is going to be different from Roy's Telecaster. There is no "best" as you said, only those who have played at their best and that is a long list of great guitarists. That said, no living guitarist plays quite like Gary.

  • I've never heard about him!!!

This is awsome, i feel like a beginer in rock music :(

I want play my guitar right now!

  • Jamais je n'arriverai à sa cheville. Et c'est peut-être tant mieux parce qu'il faut être un génie pour jour de la sorte.

  • Roy played that guitar as if he was strumming his guts! That's what made him great - the courage. <}:-)

  • Oh my. What a haunting tune. Now I know why my fav, Jeff Beck, plays so well. He had Roy as a mentor. R.I.P. brother.

  • i saw roy at the electric ballroom in dallas texas 70s fantastic show

  • @groovymusicman

OMG...finally somebody that i can relate to! saw him at the electric ballroom myself! haven't even found anybody in this day and age that remembers the place!

  • This man could make a guitar cry like nobody else.

  • I cant belive Rolling Stones Magazine named him the 53rd best guitarist ever. What crap he is the best guitarist i have ever seen. I grew up listening to Roy and trying to play like him for 8 years now and still no luck. No one can mimic Buchanans sound it is the most unique and beautiful sound ever created. R.I.P

  • @vasagram Could not agree more mate on RS only placing him 53rd...bloody idiots the lot of them. He's still the only guitarist that when i listen or watch him it really feels like he's just laid his whole soul out bare via his playing. The sound he gets with his hands alone are out of this world.

  • I saw Roy three times between 1984 and 1987. The bends, the speed, the tension, the control, the soul. I can't think of another player who can touch him in the blues-rock genre. Not a one.

  • Nothing easy about it.

That's just a Fender telecaster with a twin amp and a cord.

All the different sounds come from his hands. Only a few people in the world can create such a wide variety of tones with their bare hands. He pioneered that way of playing, and the rest of the world tried to follow.

Everybody can sort of play "the messiah will come again." No one can make it sound like that. I quit playing it because you can't really if you don't believe you are playing for your soul.

  • Heartbreaking playing... Listening to this, we can guess what a great man he sure was, and how broken he must be inside.

  • le plus beau slow au monde

  • The guitarists guitarist (quote)

  • I don't need no stinkin' frets ...

  • I don't need no stinkin' frets ...

  • This man Could play me like he does his instrument!

  • This man could play me like he does his instrument!

  • ...wOw....

  • I like Garry Moore better as a guitar player but after listening to his version of "Messiah will come again" I can only say this : no other guitarist will ever play this piece better then Roy Buchanan. A masterpiece which should always be remembered.
