I have a 1st gen iPod touch, it didn't have that, but the home button is broken. I managed to bypass this with activator and shake motion. I had it for 4 years and through my military service, and I think it fared well enough.

Yeah this is perhaps a little over the top, but I don't understand all the hate. I've been through two iPod Touch 4Gs which both had light leaks on the left hand side. Eventually Apple got me one which didn't show such defects, however the volume controls are sticky on it. Embarrassed to ask for yet another replacement, I've learned to live with it. I'm no longer a massive fan of Apple build quality based on my experiences with the Touch 4G.
