for your information, in my class in 8th grade there are 7 people who can solve the rubik's cube (25 people in total) and 6 of them are girls. (including me :D)
actually, the cube is still in very good condition. I don't think it wrecked my DIY in any way. Ive been frequently solving the cube underwater and it didnt change one bit. Even the PVC stickers aren't affected. :)

I'm 11 too and i'm not bragging but I average 17 seconds and she is the second girl I have ever seen to solve a cube.
