Tim Cross - the unsung hero - well done the man behind Oldfield's success through the late 70's and early 80's. Yes, we have Maggie et al, but Tim was the musical manager and the guy that held all the live gigs together at that time. He knew Mike's music more than Mike did.
@Sparrowhawk1161 He actually placed his band on profit sharing for the tours he did with them. Which means they didn't get a flat fee like many backing bands: they shared the profits generated by the tour. Kind of a warm thank you.
@sonicdeath10 Except that I heard they mostly overspent the money generated at those days on expensive hotels and Mike almost got bankrupt thanks to these tours... Also the Branson's ripoff terms were contributing a lot... I so hate seeing the "Sir" getting this well on his spaceport venture, cause the wealth he has now is totally undeserved.
Tim Cross - Mike's best keyboardist over the years? Surely up there with them if not top of the pile. Puts the Prophet 5 to good use, I think the SH2000 for all the solo stuff, Vocoder... ah happy days :)
@coltsuperocean10 Seriously? when we can compare your music on youtube to that of Mike Oldfields we can then assume that your comment is a personal opinion without substance.
I think it's because he wants to reproduce the sounds coming from his mouth as accurately and faithfully as possible. Many artists using the vocoder do the same - mouth as close as possible. My two cents.
A valiant effort. Oldfield's music never translates well to a live setting - it's way too complex and subtle. Pity he doesn't play these particular tracks live today because the technology is now here to do them justice. Taurus 1 is an insane piece to attempt live.
A lot of Mike's music is hard to translate live, due to it's complexity. Listen to all the versions of his music- case in point Tubular Bells original album against the 1973 'jam session' and this Montreaux concert. There are MANY differences. I think Mike Oldfield is like a fine wine... He gets better with age, though his original works are fantastic to start with.
Ses musiques, plus je les écoutes, plus le les aimes.Pour moi le plus terrifiant c'est PLATINUM!je crois que je m'en lasserais jamais, avis aux amateurs!!!
I guess his music isn't for everyone. As I am not like most people I can understand why others don't see the good in his music like many can not see it in me. I can not understand how once could say there is no feeling is his music though as his music has far more feeling that popular music. I would be curious to know what music you think it better than this, for I think Mike Oldfield is amazing.
Hmmm, there's not many of Mike's song work well live. They're just too complicated. Taurus 1 is a good example. Personally I think it just sounds a bit messy here.
La ultima parte me parece que está incluida en el disco Five Miles Out, la canción evidentemente es Taurus II, editada al año siguiente de este concierto..
QE2 has a lovely fresh, optimistic sound to it and is an excellent album. Gone is the angst of Ommadawn etc., but it gets a bad press for this reason IMO. What's wrong with cool & mellow ?!

Hundreds of nights - when I was a young girl - I felt in sleep with him - and thousend of nights later I finally recognize how good he looked.
It´s the second time now, that I fall in love with him.
Thank you for the pleasure.

true, he is so deep with his music, most people don't understand it because they are not really listening...i wish he would make a amarak 2!
ControlableInsanity 2 years ago 4
Well, sometimes he does. In the year 2000 I saw him live and he played an extract from ommadawn... one of the best things I have ever seen
peettriple 2 years ago 2
Not really. It is a fine rendition. Playing Amarok live, on the other hand, would be quite the undertaking.

He did a good job to be fair. Perhaps he might return to the piece in the future as you said? With today's technology..... wow!
