He is so hot and the best knight I think, although he is not like the others on the team.. I hate when he is dead and it seems like no one cares.. They only cry over that anoying curly Lancelot! Tristan is the best!
I haven't watched this film in at least 3 years, and I just finished watching it again! Why in Shigeru Miyamotos name did Lancelot get a big shouty "NOOOOOO!" while Tristan got a brief 3 second silence? ;_;
Forgive this third post,..but as I watched this video,I remembered that people have posted on different vids that he couldnt have held that Hawk on his wrist.Then,..how did he do it? Cos,its a real Hawk he's got on his wrist.I think he has thick canvas for sleeves to begin with, and perhaps leather wrapped underneath fort that hand.Maybe? I'd bet that's how.
blackherring - ok,I was gonna let this go,but,..this is NOT the Tristan from the "Tristan and Isolde".His name was NOT even Tristan at all. It's actually Tristram,(in the credits)and he had nothing to do with being lovers of Lancelot or Arthur. There was nothing in the script to indicate anything of that nature. Why do people keep trying to hook Tristram to the other guy?? Jeez!
@Grievous1997 Yeah, it was horrible. And the thing was, he could've taken Cerdic but he'd fought through others to get to him and he was exhausted. I've always said that Mads did a fantastic job in that scene conveying Tristan's fatigue. :(
His outfit for heavy combat is not entirely Asian...His armour may borrow some Mongolian elements, though those metal plates on it are of rather Scithyan origin.Helmet is undoubtly Hun!So is is recurved bow.His sword is Dacian - Romans added a brim to their helmet after being decimated by this type of sword in one of their Dacian battles. It all makes sense somehow, considering the geographical proximity of Sarmatia(today's Ukraine),Hun teritory(Hungary) and Dacia(Romania).
@felicia4bach thank you so much for knowing your facts the armor actually is modified mongolian or hunic armor not scithyan it is just modified with a scithyan style which common in Sarmatia. Also i love how Falconry was added to the story which is an entirely Mongolian practice it started up in the Steppes. the only issue i have is the fact that tristan doesn't use a glove and the little hawk could take his hand off. ahhh I love falconry one of the best past times and careers evers
@felicia4bach His sword is hungarian or bulgarian saber, the dacian and thracians swords are different. The armor is scythian as well as the helmet, the bow is recurved of course.
@blackherring Very cool info. So are you saying that Arthur was a lover to both Lancelot and Tristan? Or that they both were great lovers? Kind of confusing the way you worded it.
Tristans armor as well as his bow are akin to Mongolian styles. The funny little wings on the sides of his helmet give that away most instantly. The sword... is actualy called a Dao. Its a Chinese style blade, which coud also be traced to a posible Mongolian roots seeing as they wared with China.
Both Sythians and Mongols mark themselves with ink via tattoos. :3 Hope this is useful. He will always be my favorite!
@Soulstrifer Yes i agree , though i would say his armour was a mixture of turkish and mongolian , though since the styles are very similar armour wise because the turks were actually made up by lots of different races id say its either , also i think the sword is a mixture of the chinese dao and turkish and mongol influence
Tristan's armor is of mongolian make, the bow is called a recurve bow and it was made from strips of wood that have been glued, and the sword isn't a Dao though it is of similar make and design a Dao would have been shorter and slightly narrower. It also isn't a surprise that his armor is of mongolian make and design because he is a sarmation and they were deeply affected and conquered by the mongols and Great Khans and incidentally the idea of falconry is also mongolian he is one @Soulstrifer
@Drigoon321 A horse bow is a recurve ^^ I'm an Archery Tech have been shooting a bow for 16 years and I hunt avidly. I am also quite familiar with falconry. The sword was a guess as it was the closest thing I could find to his blade. The horse bow is the typical recurve design that has been shrunk down to make shooting from horse back easier. The more reflex on the limbs is so that despite having shortened the design your still getting significant power.
"Sarmatia was a collection of independent tribes...that encompassed parts of modern Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic States, Central Asian nations and into central European countries such as Romania and Poland. The Sarmatian people were a blend of Iranian nomadic horse tribes that were likely related to the Scythians.
As a matter of interest, may I ask what the song was?
The Scythian relationship would account for the bow; with regards to the sword, I think it is more intended to be akin to a samurai sword - the handle would suggest this but the end of the blade is interesting,,,and he uses it on the ground rather than from the horse, so I don't think it can be related to any historical cavalry blades of the period...perhaps just a wardrobe department idea!
I'm sorry for not getting back sooner. I've been on sabbatical. :-) I think we can all agree that the sword definitely has Asian influence. You're right in pointing out that he does carry it along the ground and holds it with both hands. He makes a point of this when fighting Cynric in the final battle. His helmet looks Hun to me. The song was "Air of the Night" by Phil Collins. Perfect for Tris.
I wouldn't mind if they made another movie more focusing on Tristan's character from the time the Romans were training him and the other kids in the camps until like right before we see them in the movie king Arthur. it would be interesting to see what experiences shaped him to be the awesome soldier he was.
Thanks for the comments - I love diaglogue. I've often thought that it would be a great story/movie to show the 15 years of servitude and training under Arthur also from Franzoni's perspective. We do write fan fiction on my site though, so if you'd like to hash out that storyline, drop me a PM and I'll send you the link. We could explore that plot. Anyway, I agree that there is a lot more that could have been done with this movie.
I've read all the comments and I belive we share our sympathy for Tristan, he was my favourite character in that movie and yea Mads did a wonderfull job, I dont want to sound mean or anything like it but id prefer if for example Gilahad died instead of Tristan, also was sad to see Dagonet and Lancelot dying but in the end someone had to die from the Knights and they choosed Lancelot and Tristan and I didnt like that :(
was expecting they could've make trilogy from this but i guess i was wrong..
.... I hate to admit it.... But I almost cried. I was so sad when he died. He was my favorite... He was just... Amazing. I don't usually like the scruffy rugged type, but he was sexy. haha... Seriously though... I was SO sad when he died. I hate whoever killed him off.
I concur, Tristan was definitely my favorite Knight. I love the calm and precise way he walked through enemies with his sword. Pretty badass, was bummed to see him fall.
Tristan deserves to live his life fully. He is the best character in my opinion, he deserves the best of life. Grow old with his love and life. Watch his children become the best at what they persue. They had no right o kill him off, along with Lancelott and Dagonet. I mean come on! They shouldn't have made them die! They should've made some other less important person die! But good job justifying Tristan. He really deserves this. Five out of Five for this video. Very, very good job at this. ^_^
I didn't think there was anything wrong with the killing off of any of the knights, especially Lancelot. I thought that part was well done. However, for Tristan - the most dominant swordsman in the picture - to be outdualed WAS wrong and bogus. Maybe if he was taking on 3 or 4 opponents at once, or if he was shot, or distracted in some way... maybe then I could buy his death in combat. But for him to be obliterated in a one on one sword fight did not sit well with me either.
i think the great honor for a warrior is to die in the battlefield and is the best way to die, i really like this character just like boromir in the lord of the rings, they are bravery and show no fear to death, i like that, live a full life is boring, they who die in battlefield will be remember forever
yeah my dad said that too, that if there was no war some (if not all) had nothing really to live for, so going home was really pointless, despite the fact the huns were coming around that time ...
yeah tristan was my favourite from the first time i saw it :), like many other people i guess
I think Mads did a great job in showing Tristan's fatigue during the final battle. Tristan had to fight through a lot of men to get to Cynric. Notice his heavy breathing and his desperation in getting to his sword. He fought a good fight, but he was exhausted. Mads is awesome.
Gah! well at least they did one thing right after killing tristan, Bringing him back as a horse along with lancelot and dagonet was a good way to end it. I'm writing a fanfic about their lives as horses.
I have absolutely no idea how I have missed you & your wonderful vids on here, Lady C! You have done my darling name-sake proud, my lady! It is wonderful! Thank you so very, very much! xxxxx
