I notice that lot of people from the UK, who didnt have seen the Life on Mars from the ABC, simply tells that it's shit because its a counterpart. I am from Europe, and I see the unoriginality of the US as well, but pls, watch the ABC produced Life on Mars before creating an opinion, it is truly a great show which is worth watching.

I've seen it. Sure it's unoriginal but it was supposed to bring a very British show to an American audience. It was fairly successful in this premise but they completely fucked up the ending. I don't know why they decided to change it from the original British version, my guess is that the British finale of Sam jumping off the building to re-enter the world of Gene Hunt was a bit too macabre for a mass American audience. But they could have made it just a little less stupid.

@alex123superface Well, I guess the writers were told, that the show is over after 1 season and to make an ending right now. The writers then threw away their ideas for 2rd and 3rd seasons, and made this crappy thing out of nowhere. I was talking about the plot and the actors, that was what I liked about it.

Maybe 2035 wasn't real...the episode ended with Gene's 1973 white loafer stepping down. So many possibilities...

Alternatively Gene's loafer is a clue that they will find Bacteria on Mars thus the "Gene Hunt" will be successful.
