Actually she got picked because she's had a business relationship with Armani since she btoke out as a solo artist. she's almost exclusively in his clothes on the red carpet and they are personal friends as well..so it made sense to use her as opposed to say, Gwen Stefani or Jessica Simpson who don't have that close personal and business relationship with him. She explains it in one of the interviews she did about this and performing at one of his events.

I love Beyonce and Marilyn but the thing about Marilyn is that she never had the best voice or was the best actress..she had a quality and an essence that made men want to be with her and women want to BE her. She had something that you don't see in a lot of stars today and that's why she's endured as a legend. it's more than her looks, its more than her voice its just Marilyn. Today's stars just don't have that same quality which is why in 50 years our kids will remember very few of them.
