  • Ferenc, you need to ask you grandmother how to make rakott krumpli!

  • Kosz szepen a variacio javaslatokat.

  • its not the traditional rakott krumpli, dont need pörkölt.

  • Try it, you may like it as a variation. But I appreciate all comments.

    Thank you

  • You don't put porkolt in rakott krumpli. noooo.

  • It looks amazing! But, I'm worried about those eggs! That's a LOT! There HAS to be an alternative way of making this dish so that it's more healthy??

But, I must say it is my favorite Hungarian dish still today .

  • I suppose you could replace some of the meat with a vegetable porkolt type if thing.

The eggs, it seems a lot but this casserole fed 4 people and we had leftovers for another supper.

Changing the layers to other ingredients would be interesting play with, let me know if you come across a winner combination.

    Thanks for the comments

  • @mymy826 Haha! you said Healthy!!!

  • Originally my mother used to juts do it with sausages, no porkolt.

She made this change to add more depth of flavor. And with the porkolt sauce blending in as it bakes, mmmMMMM!

    Hungry just thinking about it.

    Thank you for you comments.

  • Doing it with "porkolt" is not only not authentic Hungarian but also overkill. But each it's own.

It Vancouverba nem talalni Debrecenyit. :-)

  • Rakott krumpli, is by far the most delicious potato dish I have ever tasted, and crave again and again, but now that I'm older, and more concerned about my health, oooh. I don't know man... Those eggs?? This is not good if you're watching your cholesterol.... But, it's delicious. One bite, and you'll be a fan for life.

  • @mymy826

Its is a great dish and the eggs are not to bad, you can use as much or as few as you feel is healthy. But the heck with that, mmmmmmm, I am getting hungry just thinking about it.

  • my mother makes this with potatoes, eggs, sour cream, bacon and breadcrumbs. adding the porkolt looks like a brilliant idea.

  • @FeriKovacs It was new to me also when She came to visit and she started cooking. Mmmmm, . . . . .

  • It's actually great with slices of szalonna in place of the kolbasz!

  • @ostrc Mmmmm, yes I bet it is, greasy but good.

  • I love this! I made this yesterday and we loove it! great dish for a cold winters day.

  • Excellent! My mother made this without any meat, and that is how I make it, too. Just potatoes, boiled eggs, and sour cream, with some salt and oil sprinkled over each layer to help keep it moist in the oven. HEAVEN! We would have this during lent, preceded by some tomato soup. It is one of my favorite meals.

  • who ever put porkolt in this dish its suppose to be layered potatoes, eggs, sour cream,kolbasz.. Porkolt maybe on the side . Its like scalloped potatoes . without cheese guess each to his own ahahahaahahahah

  • You are right, it is usually done with kolbasz. Depends where you are in Canada, it may be hard to find. This modification makes it even tastier. But thank you for your input.

  • you can cook anydish anyway you want to. when I make hungarian dishes I alway make small modifications to make it better - it's called cooking!

  • Kibasztá még Laci bácsival is :D

  • Köszönöm!
