  • No offense, but I've watched dozens of these BOB videos and I have to disagree with one thing which I see over and over: If you are going to use a olive drab/camo or black "tactical" bag - you might as well paint a big bulls eye on it. Because when the SHTF - the survivalist/rambos are probably never going to hear the shot and the last thing they're going to see is someone stripping off their gear. Real camoflage in a SHTF situation should make you look like the least prepared individual.

  • @BillGoose1313 I agree, i would rather look unprepared than look like a hunter or rambo.

I say wear all black and move at night if you can...

  • @BillGoose1313 most folks dont use their kit. They buy what looks "tactical" or everyone else says to buy online. There's a reason i show civilian backpacking rucks in this series. They dont have to be hot pink and red, but earth toned. Camo is also dependent on your AO and plans. A blue and grey north face ruck may be better suited for someone in Denver..while in BFE Texas a camo military ruck may be best. The most important thing is that the pack fits and you USE IT!

  • I call my B.O.B. HANK, which stands for Haul Ass Now Kit! :)

  • frame packs? 3000 cubic inches? what are you hiking cross country? there is a readon that NO other bug out bags on youtube are that big more like a maxpedition vulture II AT MOST!!!

  • @Goer099

I'll lay money down all the pogues with the maxpedition vulture saint tried humping them for any distance past the bed room mirror or digital camera. Work 50 miles form home and gotta walk back.. you'll want a pack that will hold what you need for that time frame...not a day pack. But then again...its hard to face reality when many dont get out past their front door.

  • @Goer099 I went through SERE with an ALICE pack. 5 days in the woods, hiking (to put it nicely) through 4 feet of snow in february, with snow shoes was very doable with this pack, loaded to the seams. I can't say that it was too much. If anything, it was a little small.

  • @Goer099 try loading 3 days of food and water in that pack and see if you put anything else in them. I tried to load all of my bug out gear into an assaul pack, and it sucked. I walked 1 mile with it and my shoulders and back were throbbing. Pick packs are the way to go.

  • @Goer099 plus, I've seen dozens of bug out bags that aren't under 2000 cubic inches. Most are alice packs, some civilian, and even large molle rucks.

  • that very first rucksack you were talking about at the 2 minute area is terrible. its not comftorable at all, plus we've broke acouple in some raider competitions, well the straps broke, and guys it sucks having to run with only one strap on and you holding the other, ccr sucked when that happened.

  • Your intro made me both laugh and gulp a bit (It's the same reaction I had when that nice-enough guy in my class showed up at the school Halloween dance in a gas mask, then claimed he kept it in his car JUST IN CASE.) because yeah, there was a time during my impressionable teen years where, thanks to my location and the Iraq WMD panic, gas masks were not exactly a theoretical issue.

  • sick setup you should check mine out

  • the alice is "Retard proof"?

  • being invisible will be the best of all. can we order Chinese stealth armor in fallout ? lol....

  • not true, shelter is relative to conditions, you can make it outside perfectly fine without shelter if it is not too cold or wet. or too hot in the extreme. and you can also go a long time without food unless your a pussy. water is the main thing for absolute survival

  • @spicecrop well as we all know,,we get to control the weather and when shtf/events/disaster's ..oh wait thats the HVAC controls LOL.

Shelter is a broad term. It is your clothing on your back to your tent, to your home, to the debris hut you made. As to food. Pussy or strong man, a person can only go so far, and only do so much w/out it . Hump a pack for 6-8 hours day for 5 days with out food, Let me know how far you went each day, what your energy levels are, and how effective you can be.

  • @spicecrop you can survive a good while with no food but its not an intelligent thing to do. Its about survival not being rambo its not realistic

  • lol i cant hide hear orange

  • good vid man

  • you say 3 day, but those packs, all of them could easily act as sustainment packs, the only thing you run out of is food and water, pack a good water filter, your sidearm and some fishing line with hooks, (just line and hooks with maybe a bobber, NOT A ROD, bait can be any bugs you find in the area, look it up.) other stuff can be scavanged after a couple weeks, and any emergency that lasts that long theres a simple saying WROL equals take what you need because you need it more.

  • What size Alice pack is ideal for a BOB - Medium or Large? Also, do they have bottom straps for carrying a tent or sleeping bag?

  • if things realy do go bad how the hell are you going to get out of the city. unless you are some super genius that can keep yourslef from getting jumped for your stuff and killed on the way out. there is no way you are getting out

  • @smithacoya That is why you plan.Of course, shtf and your living in the bronx..i would guess you would have issues getting out on foot. However,if your planning, like you should, moving from that AO would/should have been one of the top priorities. That said. If everyone said "screw it we cant make it.." no one would ever get anywhere in life would they.

  • @delta69alpha i kind of live on Long Island New York and the only way out on land is through New York City. I declare myself fucked

  • @smithacoya That's because there is a FOURTH critical element you must have in your B.O.B. It's called a PDW. Think 'Black rifle'.

  • @smithacoya Cardio...Thats how...

As long as none of them can run a marathon...i should be okay.

Also, the typical city slicker can barely shoot...let alone hit a moving target...Especially if that target is HAULIN ASS lolo

  • My friend and I makeshifted a garbage bag canopy. you can do a lot with stuff, you dontreally need a steel bottomed bag

  • and if things are that bad you can't live without weapons

  • Hey there Delta, When you finally got to the ONE QUALITY PACK, The Internal Frame, you only said it had better fitting Belt & Straps. Is that all? How about Top Loading or Full Access, With or Without External Pockets, External Strapping, Fast Open ... it seems the daypack and external frames were your Last Choices, So Why The Internal? What's All The Reasoning behind that choice?

  • @2012Twist mostly in how i use my rucks. The internals fit my needs better than the externals. Honesty, i used the packs in the film as a basic representation of the styles of packs used by many to build a BOB's. The most important thing no matter what ruck a person use's is to get their torso sized and get a ruck with an adjustable suspension. The options such as top load, external pouches/admin area, with or with out molle webbing are up to the buyer to chose what will fit their needs.

  • red dawn theam music at the start there lol love it great vid!

  • Good info.

  • "retard proof" haha nice video

  • was that music at the beginning from RED DAWN

  • A few days ago I saw a woman on the train (I'm from NYC) with a duffel bag style back pack. It had lots of compartments on the outside and I was imagining what was on the inside. I started thinking about how that would make a great BOB but I haven't been able to find anything like that. Would you know where I might be able to get something like that with a frame either internal or external? As long as it's a comfortable fit.

  • @delta69alpha...And one more thing. RETARD PROOF?.........RETARD PROOF? I'll have you know Mr. Man that I happen to be a retard and I could tear up that alice pack any ole day of the week. In fact,I once tore up an anvil with a wet noodle. And at the risk of sounding like I'm bragging, I once nawed the legs off of my mama's coffee table in less than an hour. So let this be a lesson to you, never under estimate a retard. When we put our half minds to it we can do anything.

  • @delta69alpha....My alice bag is a GHB (get home bag). Because of my secure home location I intend to stay put but I have made a bag for getting back home if the shtf while I'm gone at work. In my buisness I work all over the state at various/different locations and if we had an EMP I figure I would be walking home and the trip could take a week of walking. I'm set up with an alice with mre's, dry sleeping stuff, canteen with water purification tablets a gun and other goodies. A BOB is a GHB.

  • I got me four bags. But How do I separate them for its purpose ?

I got one shoulder carry bag 2000 Cubic inches (5.11 24 hrs) for a house

I got one messenger bag ( Maxpedition active shooter Bag) for a Car

I got two small pouches to go with them. Now, How should I separate its contents from main vs small pouch ?

  • 'uber yuppies' lol... great vidoes man. i've read a lot of books and watched a lot of videos on survival and hiking/camping, as well as having learned a lot from family members who have both been in the military and done a lot of independant camping and hiking, but i've still found a few helpful ideas i hadn't heard before. thanks for takin the time

  • Best Bug Out Bag Content Dot Com

  • shelter=hennessy hammock. they are great, the fly can be used for well keeping you dry, camo, to cover your hammock which is great with the bug mesh and all lived in mine in the congo for a while! check them out

  • I use large ALICE/w cargo shelf. Normally loaded to 40lbs but can take it to 100 (USMC days) but max I have used it is around 60. The duffle can also be attached to the ALICE frame if ou ever really want to play Human Mule.

  • you dont have to have shelter you can make it .

  • Thought many might like to Google "Uncle Bobs GO Bags"

  • LOL 69.

  • retard proof :) i love it lol

  • I all ways like how people put food in last place when it comes to the big 3

If you have room in you pack then put in a little food it makes building a shelter getting fire wood and water easier if you are not hungry and thinking of food

A little food in your tummy will give you the energy you need to do the rest of the things you need to do to survive

If god forbid you are stuck out some place remote with no real way to get back

Just my thoughts on the placement of FOOD in the BIG3

    And ju

  • you know what sucks? In the proposed 2012 theory, these would be useless because we'd all be killed too fast. there is no bugging out with a solar flare like that. Not saying I believe it, just sayin.

  • i cant hide here orange, nice

  • I think it would be good to include "protection" in the three you mentioned in the beginning.

  • retard proof lol

  • I cant hide here orange...lolz!!!!

  • @wheelori814 Well lazy kills as well. So watch the rest before showing up and getting anal like you did. Thanks for playing.

  • sorry, you gotta have something to make fire with before food. The order of importance is water, shelter, fire, food. Shelter includes what clothes you are wearing including something waterproof. People die of hypothermia more than starvation!!!

  • @wheelori814 yawn

    food,water,shelter..shelter,water food, water food shelter.

Pick your order. As long as you have those 3 core items covered your good to go.

Also watch the rest of the series were we explain that clothing is shelter, and fire and so forth, Thanks for being anal and wanting to split hairs. D69

  • @delta69alpha You're not very nice are you?

  • @Drum41NAB nice as any person could be.......;)

  • @Drum41NAB lmao, more nice than i would've been. also, regarding the order of priorities in a survival situation, - it all depends on the terrain and weather, DUH.

  • Comment removed

  • @Murr2Six who said you didnt need fire? did i? nope, sorry. Anyway 35f and rain aint nothing. BTDT have the shirt(along with the pictures). Read the replies and watch the other films before going full retard over the fact that some people want to sub class every little thing to justify a means to their ends. Food,water,shelter.... its that simple... ( KISS)

  • true

  • the more you know the less you need

  • "Standard medium ALICE pack"...F**king P.O.S. pack. I would rather carry something with my 2 hands then use one of those again. I f**king hate that thing.

  • In three days time you don't NEED anything. Homeless people and small children lost in the woods last a hell of a lot longer without "B.O.B" s. Don't kid yourself, if your bag isn't stocked enough to sustain you for two weeks then I wouldn't bother. Also, I'd seriously make "hygiene/health" one of those "must have" items. Foot Rot anyone?

  • @cybanva Basic hygiene kit is a great idea. But three days of supplies is certainly worthwhile; after a disaster, you'd be competing for scarce resources with everyone else affected. Those homeless people survive on very slim pickings and discarded garbage. Pack one thousand times as many people into the same space, and it's probably better to bring your own gear.

  • cool vid. you sound like Vinnie Paul lol!

  • @maceek1 thanks.....been a fan of his and his bro(rip) since the 90's.

  • @delta69alpha

well, we have more in common than I originally thought! 1st Pantera show was San Diego Sports Arena, VDoP tour '92.

  • Great vid as always

  • i got a 62 litre back pack its huge

  • lol "this is not shoot me red or i cant hide here orange"

  • lol pretty much retard proof. now thats funny.

  • red dawn intro cool good job on this video

  • "Shoot me red, or I can't hide here orangte"LOL

  • what good is a BOB if some kind of gas gets dropped on us ? Do u have a gas mask and extra filters?

  • When I was in the Marine Corps in the 70's as an Infabtry Marine we had ALICE packs but every Marine hated the Aluminum frame and we were allowed to remove the frame when heading out to the field.

  • Great video series.

  • i can get 1-2 weeks out of a medium alice and a month out of a large. I'm 5.6 and 135 pounds and i carried an 80 pound large alice pack including my LBE and CAR-15 on my last trip.

  • @0122358

here..it's a star to put on your fridge to make your mom proud.

  • @delta69alpha what? i was just saying that with the proper preparation the effectiveness of surplus gear.

  • @0122358 No that is not what you were saying. If you did it would not have been " i can do xxx in xxx in xxx , because im xxx and xxx with xxx" It would have been similar to others on here " Oh the alice system works, its cheap and good kit" . Which is even i what i have said in the films,

  • good vid enjoyed it a lot. i'm 17 and the budget is VERY limited. my ALICE though i've had since kindergarten, love'r

  • Molle II ruck is a great choice for a huge bug out bag on a budget!

  • so internal or external frame?

  • I want my BoB in "Shoot-me-red"

  • Last one is best one in my eyes.

  • Great video!! I'm glad to see some one who has used there suff and knows how it works!

  • I found an old school alice pack at a second hand store for 5 bucks. What a great deal! In great shape, except it needed a good cleaning. This was a great replacement for my average style back back.

  • Correction on #3, I was meaning to say that you could buy spare part to replace broken or worn parts.

by the way, thanks for posting the vid.

  • A++ very informational and very well made points, I do contest a bit, I own a black tactical 5.11 rush 72 back pack that's frame less and its holding up very well,..very well made and has survived not only my tour in Iraq bu also made over a year and a half of mountain hiking and still going strong.

  • for recreational hiking, I like the commercial packs but in a bug out situation i prefer my alice pack and here's why:

    1 A LOT more durable

2 Does not impair my vision, the pack when worn is barley above the shoulder so when you turn you head you can see behind you whereas the kelty when loaded forces you to do a 180 to see behind you

3 You can buy broken or worn components easily at the surplus store that don't take up much room.

  • I can't hide here orange. I should name a crayon that! Great video!

  • good video 5 stars and sub mate!

  • Well Done as ALways!!! Have you considered doing a Vid on Walk Away Pack? Leave Permanently: Home-Destroyed, Apocalyptic Event-No Vehicle bigger than a hand cart or bicycle. Best Always, =)

  • You mean an INCH(im not coming home) bag. Basically it breaks down like this. Those core areas shelter, food, water don not change no matter what size pack you have , or event. They transfer over to your Bug in plans, your Bug Out plans , your BOV , your GHB and even your mini kits/pocket kits. The only thing that really changes is the AMOUNT of what your carrying in your pack or storing at your home.

    D

  • @delta69alpha that is exactly my point. What is most important for you to carry in such a situation based on value, weight, importance...Call it what you will, I bet there are many peeps who'd like to see others ideas and reasoning for specific gear and how much of it can you carry reasonably. What are your top Five or Ten priorities and/or goals. From where you live, what is your preferntial direction and why? I backpack the same way and thought about it on every hike I did in the Army.

  • @KorumEmrys Really great idea . . thanks!

  • on your metal frames wrap gorilla brand duct tape, it wieghs nothing and REALLY comes in handy

  • Your best bet for a serious BOB will be the Large ALICE with frame and upgraded straps and belts. Even if you initially think you wont need that much space, believe me, it is going to be needed at some point when you are actually having to depend on and live out of nothing but that pack. Just think about bartering and looting guys, you may not think youll be resorting to it but you absolutely will if the SRHTF!

Bottom line: More carry capacity is ALWAYS better than not enough with a BOB!!!

  • Retard proof hahaha i love it

  • i noticed with my large alice that at about 45 lbs it starts to try and rip my shoulders off do they make shoulder straps with a chest strap

  • Tactical Tailor makes after market straps as do blackHawk if i recall. That have sternum straps. You could make your own with some webbing and a fastek.

  • thanks fastek is that what the connectors are called

  • what never seems to be covered in these videos is "bugging out" as a group/family. there needs to be an emphasis on individual bags for each member of the family. most of these guys never speak of spouses or children.

  • @geetarbube

Thank you geertarbube. Finally someone on here with some comon sense. Most of these guys are single and watch too much Rambo. People do need a BOB, but just what they need to survive at another safe house with another family. Strength in numbers. Going at this alone is stupid to say the least. Childish and not at all willing to band together like a militia and watch each others' back. Taking your family out into 4 feet of snow in a tent is stupid and deadly. Not real world!

  • Most folks cant even hump their "BOBs" for any distance. If you want to stay "real" preach to folks to get in shape!

People that are serious will backpack year round with their kit, with wife and kids in tow and not just for that 5-10 mile day hike .

That Kelty external is my wifes pack.

I agree lone wolfing it is not the way to go when planning for shtf.

    D69A

  • Kudos. I want to make a SHTF gear/plan for my whole family. My kids, 6 &8, can carry something of importance. I need to take them on more hikes, and on their first camping trip asap. Then, I need to get them proficient with .22s and beyond.

  • @geetarbube I absolutely agreed. keep in mind about 20% of body weight. I'm 190 and a 40 pound pack is about all i want (can) to handle. In your childs pack put in coloring books, cylums, a crank radio/light...things to help keep their minds off the "situation" and outta your hair. As they get older you can slowly add items like fire starters, water purification, and when they move out at 18 you already have them started on their on bob

  • remember that a B.O.B. can be used in case of "natural" disasters, too. i'm not so naive that i don't believe in a military threat to our way of life, but my bag is geared for surviving a more realistic scenario

  • when chaos starts weight and carry is important most of these guys are just civilians and dont understand that they are going to far out as thye wont be able to carry all that stuff

  • if a bail out bag is for only three days, than putting some pottled water in a back pack with 5 peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches would do the trick. BOBs are for when The US Government comes to get you or when china invades USA, and we have to run to canada or mexico. Thats why I packed clothes, first aide, fire steels, and axe, The rest is A Knife and a water bottle and outdoor survival skills. if you dont have out door skills a BOB wont help you.

  • wat is "PAW"?

  • I have a blackhawk titan hydration pack that I use for pretty much everything.

It is more of an "assault pack" but has an internal frame, about 2500cubic inches(not including MOLLE pouches), 3L hydration bladder and good padding would that work well as a BOB?

  • "Shoot me red or I can't hide here orange"

    LMAOROF!!

  • Great video, good to know. I thought you also might be very interested in an excellent channel called "EXPLOREOURPLANET" the woman grew up as a pioneer, she shows folks how to make shit that you cannot beleive, she makes handmade bows with a steak knife, beeless honey, coffee from your store of wheat, dandelion tea, jelly without pectin, basic sweet white bread and sour dough starter if you have run out of yeast, crab nets etc, her channel is packed with the koolest info, shes lived off the land

  • retard proof lmfao lol........hahahahaha

  • luvin the Red Dawn theme song with tha vid man. im putting mine to gether right now. a peice here and there on the weekends.

  • ahh, thats what i love about buying army kit, its always retard proof

  • Fire

    Water

    Shelter

These are not in absolute order, use judgment.

Three days without food will not kill you.

Yet contaminated water and inadequate warmth can (although 3 days without water should also not kill you, it is a major priority).

Food gathering knowledge as well as kits & skills to procure game is the best idea that will keep you alive if a longer situation occurs.

I suggest an amount of food your willing to carry (food = bulk and weight plus shelf life).

  • In 3 days food is not needed

  • it is if your hiking 10-20 miles a day!

  • So, what dose Bug Out Bag mean to you?

Driving to a local motel or park?

  • very funny. no, im saying that if you go three days without food while hiking you'll feel more ill effects than 3 days without food doing nothing. why do you thing those hiking ration packs contain 5000 calories for 1 day.

  • For the most part that is very much well how some BOBs will be used. Most events that is all you will need. What you pack is pretty much tailored to the style of event you are planning for. BOBs are not for living out of for extended times( months/years) They are to get you from point A to B.

  • What if you had to live out of it though. Like everyone talking about this martial law ... im trying to make one to have enough supplies to get me started living in the woods, unless i get captured. I found one that is 7000 CI. I'd rather be prepared .. than not.

  • I'm confused! Are you implying you are gonna escape military FLEER optics in the woods? You can't fight a war alone! Be careful what you hear on YT. Most of these guys don't have families. They are willing to leave everyone behind to fight a war they cannot win. Eventually you will need supplies. As a former infantry soldier, a BOB is for several days of survival. Don't get sucked into this Rambo stuff.

  • lol youll see

  • lol retard proof

  • what guns . help me. somebody

  • bolt action or lever action rifles their easy to maintain and hold up well to the bush and the ammo is plentyful and cheap i went with a marlin 336 in 30-30 and i have a peep sight it holds 7 rds. and the ammo is like 20 for $13 not bad also get a good reliable pistol any will do i prefer glock. or get a good shotgun but the ammo is heavy and you cant carry as much, but if the money is tight and you need something to work and will serve you well then get a .22 rifle cant go wrong.

  • If you have guns, honestly those are probably fine. If you're buying, buy good guns that you like and are comfortable shooting. 9mm and .223 are great since that ammo is so common. .45ACP and 7.62 are also common. Shotguns are fine, but you'll want slugs for some better range. A .22 is always a good choice, more powerful than people give it credit for.

  • .308 hunting rifle

  • Hey man great video! I had to make my bob on the cheap so i just used a jansport i had used for day hikes. I am able to get everything in that i would need for 3 days pluse some. The only problem is it super stuffed. Any ideas on a good cheap pack?

  • I just watched a video about a two day pack. He had everything but the kitchen sink for his pack. I thought OMG what the heck and I'm a woman lol. I always end up coming back to your channel. for the best suggestions. Thank you for all your time.

  • Thank you for viewing and learning.

    D69A

  • this video sucks. who is going to actually use this crap. You right wing survivalist gun nuts scare me. remember bad things dont happen in America dumbasses! lol great vid!!!!!!

  • u r a dick!!! wow!!! since when dont bad things happen in America? 911, katrina, LA riots, blackouts! u left wing incompetent assholes endanger the rest of us!! u will be the first to scream for help since u probably depend on the govt for help!

  • easy fellas,,it aint the end yet. ;p

  • hey i agree! but nothing wrong with being prepared. just hate naive people on both sides,

  • he's being sarcastic. why can't you tell?

  • i was about to say something just like this to that guy until i realized he was being sarcastic.

  • LOL!

  • hey man sorry! had some sand in my crotch

  • Red Dawn????

  • beermangary impressive i want to use the sas?para alice (im british )

  • Lmao "shoot me red or i cant hide here orange" great vid. added to Favd...

  • pretty much retard proof XD im subscribing

  • Very informative, thanks. Also for anyone who doesn't already know( I didn't) , the alice back pack is and acronym. Alice stands for All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment, or ALICE system

  • Oh thank you. I couldn't believe he really said "Alice". But I went to EBay, and did a search on "Alice bags" and they popped right up. Then I wondered what "Alice" meant. Now I know it's really "ALICE". Now I have to get one.

  • I have been hearing more and more about B.O.B.'s. I hadn't researched them at all before this video. I'm into it! Good job too. You watched my M1600 .22 tactical rifle vid. I posted a new vid of the gun in action.

  • I just purchased the Kelty Trekker 3950 and man I think it's a great pack for 72 housr trip. great video, keep em comin.

  • The trekker 3900 also does not say, "shoot me, I have military gear on my person"

  • It also doesn't say, "Hey coppers if you're looking for guns stop me first."

  • Lmao at "shoot me red or i cant hide here orange".... by the way good review. Alice pack for its price you can't go wrong.

  • Do you have a large ALICE pack? It holds alot more shit

  • oops my bad guess its a Kelty?

Best vid I seen so far on explaining the Best BOB's for each budget and need etc.

    GOOD JOB

  • It is a kelty. Thanks for watching.

    Bob

  • that black on is used by special forces I believe its the SPEAR nice nice bag couldn't find a black and green one mines black and navy but its way more comfy then the ALICE pack I used in Basic 20miles no prob with the SPEAR whereas the ALICE Ugh 20 miles I was dead on my feet.

  • Just to clarify: I was talking about how the top of the shoulder straps are connected to the frame. :)

  • I understood perfectly . This Alice shown has been run over by a jeep, and basically used ,abused and put up wet ;) The straps on it in the movie were just installed to replace the old ones. The old ones were set up as you are describing but when wet squeaked like crazy! Thanks for the comment though it may help others!

  • I had my Alice straps hooked up to the frame like that in the field in Korea, and they broke while I was rucking ~40lbs.

The forward strap should come over the top of the frame, while the rear strap is threaded through the frame holes. I promise it makes a difference when the going gets rough.

    PMCS! :)

  • Well a bob is a back pack after all. I'm glad it took you 8 minutes to figure that one, most get that concept at 30 seconds!

  • I re watched just 2 minutes of it and got a heckuva lot more than that out of it.

  • for some reason or another this video will not play?

  • loading and working as it should.

    Bob

  • Heh, shoot-me red. My new favourite colour.

  • lol wolverinesssssss

  • "operators" I loled. Do you by any chance browse /k/?
