Marton is one of the last great Turandot's after Nilsson. I've always had tremendous respect and admiration for her emotional singing. However, I don't think this was one of her better recordings of this role. The Vienna recording is superior to this in many ways. Unfortunately, you can hear the wobble that was creeping into her singing in this recording. That said, she sings this better than anyone currently singing it.

Turandot wears white because she is in mourning for the dead ancestress whose reincarnation and avenging angel she claims to be. Wants to marry NO one.
I was disappointed with his Nessun Dorma too. It sounded rushed and lacking breath control maybe? My family and I love the production and it still makes me cry when I watch it! Thank you franzhun for posting this!

Domingo cracked when Calaf sing together with Turandot just after "In questa reggia"

is this the scene where Mr. Domingo the mingo freaked out of tune? I know I heard it somewhere, but it was cute so i'd like to hear it again..

I love this production too. Turandot has been my favourite opera ever since I was a child and it still makes me cry, too :)

Hard to imagine anyone else in this role:
Eva Marton does stuck up, cruel ice goddess too well.

Pochi possno permettersi di cantare la Turandot. La Marton se la poteva permettere, per questo ruolo serve una voce tagliente.

Great production, awesome set. But I think Calaf acted a little too nervous, and it's not the first time I've seen Domingo over act! XD
Go see the ending of Butterfly with Mirella Freni and you'll know :p
But the singing and set was really well done, I wish I could have seen it! (a very old production indeed :p)

Isn't Calaf supposed to be nervous? His head is on the line here, no matter how much he wants her. You have a view here that the live
audience did not.
