The ending of the episode makes it seem like Shawn has moved away from the cult and is back to normal. In reality all he did was move from one cult(Mr.Mac) to another cult(God). I thought the whole point of this episode was to not believe in something just because you feel lost. This episode had so much potential, but it faltered towards the end.
People shouldn't label so much. A person who follows God and Jesus, also follows good, because God is good. There is nothing bad about that, therefore, shouldn't be labelled as 'religion', etc... that makes it sound like any other cult, when it isn't (with a negative outtake on it)
I personally think this is one of William Russ' best scenes, even though he's not in it for that long.
"A judgment that I make a long time ago that Shawn Hunter is the best friend that my kid ever had. And I will kill to protect Shawn Hunter from people like you."
that's a great subject to do an episode about, only people who are getting thereselves missing go to a cult, and this episode shows exactly why and how to refrain from joining cults
Also I think it was made after David Koresh cult were killed together, because probably David said that everybody should die togethe
Why why WHY did they write out Turner after such an emotional and pivotal (for Shawn) episode like this? It makes absolutely no sense to me. They could have at least included him in the later seasons..instead of just one flashback moment. The relationship between Shawn and Turner was one of the sweetest things about this show..and the writers tried to phase it out like nothing. Shame on them.
I know i had some negative votes that i put on here 9 months ago but for the ppl that gave me those ngative votes think that my comment doesn't matter but all comments always matter but those ppl that are stupid & pathetic think they can get away with it but they will pay for it by paying the price for it so if they just come forward & give me the apology that i deserve to have then i will reconsider it but if they don't then i need u all to track them & give their names so i make em pay.
Gosh I love this show. These were the days when Disney thought real values: Love Family, and above all God. Jesus will never leave nor forsake you! Amen.
Cory (to Shawn): "Okay first of all, we are here. Kay? And second of all: I am beginning to see that you are more alone than I ever knew." That really hit me. Such a sad revelation.
and,
"Shawn! This is a hug! Okay? This is a hug! And this is when you hug somebody. When you care about them! And that you want them to know that!" That was awesome.
Such a great episode. I love how this show made no apologies for allowing their characters to speak to/believe in God.
@crimsondrizzle Who cares it's the characters and the stories and the emotions that make this show and others like it great not God. That last scene is great because of the emotion and the passion and Rider Strongs acting.
@crimsondrizzle It's so ad, isn't it? Well, it has been predicted in the Bible, that there is only a very few who will believe. We can pray for people to turn back to Him, to they too can see His glory in their lives ;')
@musicADHD that's why i love this show... thats why i love most of the shows i love. they are funny funny shows but get serious when they need to and most times the acting is more believable during those serious moments than in any drama. boy meets world, scrubs, even that 70's show all had funny people that could really act.
@rskimski I really miss shows like these. I cried my eyes out for 10 minutes after watching this. It's so sad that shows these days have no substance or depth. Disney Channel is a prime example of this. Remember when they had real issues with their shows? Remember when they had shows that would briefly approach the issue of drugs just to teach a lesson? Now, what? Wizards of Waverly Place? What is that? I wish I had a time machine...
Greatest acting in the entire series by everyone! The intensity of love and affection shown by Mr. Feeny, Allen, Cory, and Shawn is absolutely... beautiful.
This episode has it all the truth of God and the lies of a cult and some of the best acting ever and if I didn't know anything I would have thought Shawn became a Christian
@jjshbk320 i actually think that the religious aspect of this episode may have been to complex for us to understand, REALLY understand the way we do now.
Boy Meets World Is The Kind Of Show Where You Can Easily Attach Yourself To The Characters, And When They're In Life-Threatening Situations You Get Emotional Yourself.
this is probably the most tear-jerking season. first Topanga leaves, then she comes back and they try to separate her and Cory and now Turner's accident. I'm, like, sobbing right now.
Man I miss these shows! They are the best! Why can't they do shows like this anymore....? I mean I have learned a lit from them, and know I watch the shows know a days for kids, like Hannah Montana and Wozards of wearily place ect... They teach the kids nothing but to have fun make out and be who they are not supposed to be... I tell the kids I work with and my little sister that you have to be an honest nice person and always be your self and all they say is "that's not what they do on Hannah
It's such a shame that they couldn't show any of this on TV anymore because it isn't "politically correct". Shows these days are going down the drain, we need shows like this back that actually teach a lesson and help people.
Epic episode, Alan shoving Mr Mack against the wall was great, and the scene with Cory not letting Shaun leave Turner's side got me crying. Brilliant show, usually the first couple of seasons to a show are the best, but this has only gotten better with each season, and the final 3 seasons i only saw bits and pieces. looking forward to every moment this show has to offer.
that is one powerful episode. and the first time i see them mention God in something other than prayer or thanksgiving at mealtimes. if only people of this generation watched this series, i bet that the world wouldnt be so screwed up and materialistic.
I love so many things about this part. Alan saying that he would kill to protect Shawn, Amy's backing up of Alan, trying to hold him back but realizing that what he's doing is right - her facial expressions are wonderful - Mr. Feeny saying, "You. Can't. Have. Shawn!", Cory hugging Shawn and yelling at him, Shawn's whole scene inside Turner's hospital room. Eric. And Mr. Mac is so creepy. And I find it really weird that his name is like Macdonald's. I know - not really related - but still.
@sodapopwrock When Alan did that he was just angry at himself for threatning to kill to protect someone that he cares about but it's a good thing that his wife Amy was trying to hold him back but not realizing that what he's doing is wrong beacause he is wrong for doing that. It's a good thing that Eric & Mr. Mac had some good scenes together because they are not so creepy because their not.
@421markie or what ever you do know this is a show not real life and that they no longer make these haha and you totally missed the point of the episode, they didn't love Shawn his friends and family love Shawn and he finally understands in this episode
@Che1sea24 U know what i do not care what u say because u don't understand nothing and u missed the point about what i said about this episode and your the one to tell me do u know this is a show and not real life is a joke because i do know all of that and u need to know that u sthu.

Shawn was good in this episode because he did a good thing for himself by being a life member at the Center because Rider Strong and Jerry Levine had some good scenes in this episode except for ending when Shawn said i'm done with u and i'm done with envy and then he said to the Matthews that i'm going to get my stuff so i can move in with u, i liked what Mr.Mac said to Shawn when he said we'll always be here for u Shawn. This episode was creepy... @_@ I didn't like seeing Shawn like that, with that calm voice and blank look on his face/in his eyes. The cult totally brainwashed him, and he wasn't Shawn anymore. I missed the old Shawn more times than I could count throughout the episode... The ending was powerful though. Rider has an AMAZING and natural emotional range. I was so glad to see 1) Alan's furious confrontation with Mr. Mack, 2) Mr. Turner is implied to be alright, and 3) Shawn's finally his old self =]
Why was Mr. Turner written out of the show? I always liked the character, and thought it was a shame that he was so abruptly taken out of the show and became an "afterthought" by the time graduation rolled around
Another excellent episode, but I think it would have been more effective last season, when Turner was a bigger part of the show. He wasn't in much this season.
@firefairyangel7 Actually I think this was a good place to put it because it showed that Shawn and Mr. Turner still had a very strong bond with each other.
@marmik961 That being the case (him suriviving), was the accident still written in as a way to write him off the show? I mean, he looked pretty badly hurt.
still the greatest tv show ever!
