Dove is owned by Unilever, which also owns Axe bodywash for Men. Anyone who has seen those commercials knows that there is little concern for objectifying women when it means a product is selling. This is pure hypocrisy at it's finest.
《plz!! 》I need a help,i need still 50 girls' photos,i want to make a video for telling everyone,no matter what styles, types of girl, they are all beautiful, just everyone is on different way of beauty! if you are interested in it,and have the confidence of yourself, join this work and tell the girls from every corner of the world that ''you are beautiful''! write me a message, and i will tell the way for sending me your photos!! i will post video on later! i promise!!
@iliketoludde that girl is me.. all joking aside. i was seven years old at the time, and yeah i had flaws, but they wanted me to do this commercial because i thought i was beautiful and i was happy, and that's what makes a beautiful person. i'm thirteen today and a lot has changed, but a lot has stayed the same; that being i'm still happy and confident because the dove self esteem campaign made me that way. but thanks for your input ;)
show me a smile then. dont be unhappy, i cant remember when i last saw you laughing. if this world makes you crazy and youve taken all you can bear, you call me up .. because you know ill be there. and i see your true colors shining through. i see your true colors, and thats why i love you. so dont be afraid to let them show, your beautiful, like a rainbow. ♥
these girls are all, just, beautiful. i look at girls in public and thikn, they are so pretty, when they're probably thinking that they aren't pretty. its so hard to feel beautiful, i know how they feel. :]
I love it, but when is someone going to start a similar ad campaign targeted at men? These days, we are all being held up to impossible standards, not just the ladies.
This is really wonderful what Dove is doing for all of our young girls~no, young ladies. But still, what about grown women and older ladies? Us big girls need to be lifted up too, every now and then.
Tired of the false promises that beauty advertisements make? Watch "Rosyline" on YouTube! It's a hilarious beauty commercial spoof that truly outlines the ridiculous aspect of these ads.
I don't get these campaigns because the images they use are still really beautiful people. I'm glad they're trying to make sure a pretty girl knows she's pretty but how about a little real help for girls that really are ugly. Come on now.
@scarecrowswinter no girl is ugly...everyone is beautiful in a unique and magnificent way....the media is one who has made us see people as "beautiful" or "ugly" based only on looks which is ridiculous...beauty is skin deep, i would rather to be "ugly" but kind and smart than looking like Kate Beckinsale but have a horrible soul and be stupid. Fortunately, I find myself beautiful and a I love myself with my flaws and everything...
@dolphinDog Your wealthy Western privilege is showing. By saving the environment, Greenpeace is saving the homes and livelihood of third world girls. If a girl's biggest anxiety is having to look at ads with girls prettier than she is, then she's got it pretty damn good.
The only thing I hate about this is that they don't use ACTUAL overweight girls. Like, I'm 20-25 lbs overweight and I have the worst self esteem. Those girls have nothing wrong with them. I do.
Some girls who have nothing wrong with them still has low self-esteem. If they do show overweight girl and all of them have to be overweight me personally is kind of offensive saying that hey you're fat so don't hate youself love yourself. You are not perfect but thats ok you are pretty for a fat girl or overweight girl. One or 2 overweight girls aren't bad but when I see skinny girls on that commercial it shows me that overweight girls aren't the only ones with problems me being a ow girl to
the same people who make Dove, make AXE. which is sooo good for guys self esteem isnt it? And in THOSE commercials u only see hot girls. like come one!!
Considering how I've made only one error in that reply, I'd say I did much better in comparison with the person I was replying to. So thanks for your much unneeded reply.
Did you guys also know that Unilever (the parent company of Dove) is also the producer of "Axe?" How about the sexism and impossible beauty standards in those ads?
Even worse, ever hear of "Fair and Lovely?" It's a skin bleaching cream (from Unilever, also)marketed mostly in Asian nations and India. Go ahead and check those ads out. I almost cried. This hypocrisy is simply mind-bending. Real beauty? My ass.
The ironic thing about "[The] Dove Self Esteem Ads" is that they are the same people who repersent Axe. We all know those commercials, where the girls only come after he sprays the Axe. I think this is a good idea, just really ironic the creators are repersenting different ideas themselves.
dove is not necessarily one entity. The people who create the ads are simply in advertising. They create whatever kind of ad they are told to create. The people who ask for sex apeal ads are not the same team of people out to counter them. Even thought they work for the same people and are affiliates, they are not the same!
That's a clever supposition, but do your homework. I suggest following the money. Unilever is the parent company, which means authority and approval for these ad campaigns rests with them---just like the profits from all of these gambits goes to them. Can't have it both ways--collect the money from these products, but deny responsibility for them? (Think Coke and Mountain Dew) Same thing. I checked.
my view here is that they should have chosen really ugly girls and at the end of the ad these ugly girls are still happy with their lives because they dont base their happiness on the approval of everyone around them. the problem is at the end they showed somehow cute little girls smiling.
uhh the point is that no one is ugly. everyone should be comfortable with themselves and everyone else should be okay with it too.
+ all the people who saw these "ugly girls" you're talking about and are judgemental and are the reason why they think they're ugly saw it they wouldn't do anything about it. they would change the channel and not even pay attention.
I think you missed what they meant. If they showed some girl who was 300 lbs. or had 3rd degree burns on her face and said they were going to help these girls with their self-esteem, the ad might have been a little less sneer-inducing from people who look at the girls in the commercial and still feel ugly by comparison.
I Think that u guys that criticize this Ad are a bunch of idiots,of corse they want to sell products, but they blend a good comercial with a social issue
I Think it´s beautiful.
Ps : I´m Brazilian , soo i´m sorry if spell something wrong
okay about these dove commercials...they have good points and everything but im just curious about 1 thing--how the hell is money going 2 help someone's self esteem? they're still going 2 b ugly, fat, skinny,or whatever they think is wrong with them...only way money can fix that is by plastic surgery or beauty products and if they feel they have to use that stuff then it's DEFINITELY not high-self esteem!!!! i think dove cares but really maybe just a little more about the money than the girls
that's not the point...the point is they feel their ugly, when they're not. you're interperating it wrong. the message is for them not to be shy of the world for what they look like.
but if they're not really ugly, then there is no problem, but the perception. find someone average and ugly...then tell them to feel good about themselves...it won't work. it's not easy. in the commercial, it's an easy job.
that's what these dove campaigns are for, no? well that's what i thought anyways....there are ways to convince them their beautiful, it just takes time. which is what the money is spent on, yes? a sort of treatment where they talk about what their view on themselves is...
