It was a good quiz, but it was launched at a time when there were endless Millionaire clones popping up left right and centre. The moody blue lit studio just made it appear to be yet another. And making Kilroy act a bit Anne Robinson didn't help either.
The format itself was strong, but the audience was starting to feel fatigued by the overkill of Millionaire.
Surely you can't lose by shafting. If the other guy shafts then you will always go home with nothing. But if you shaft then at least you have a chance to win.
@Nealson454 That bloke fully deserved to lose; £108,500 is already a hell of a lot of money, even by today's standards when it's rare to win even £100,000, or £50,000 now. She gave him a chance to prove he was gonna Share convincingly and make her change her mind but she read through him so easily, under the case of "If I'm going down, you're going down with me!"
This format is years before Golden Balls, however Shafted took this from somewhere else. I hated it when Jaspar said the ending to GB is the Best Ever, because it's the same just with less money than this,
Anyway this been going round for years a puzzle called the Prisoner's Dilemma. Both Prisoners could escape working together, one could escape leaving the other trapped or they could both try sperately both being caught. It's a nice idea to bring to a gameshow.
I'm glad he walked away empty handed, he deserved it.

20 episodes?
OMG with a name like "SHAFTED" what did they think was going to happen?
Ending is like Golden balls I guess....
chapmasi 2 years ago
It was an OK show. It was just waiting to be thwarted because Kilroy-Silk presented it.
And Goldenballs is worst. This actually required knowledge, and Goldenballs is primarily luck. And don't get me started on Deal Or No Deal...

deal or no deal is not even amusing it doesnt exercise.

Neither does Patton Oswalt but he's one of the best comedians there is.

I never realised Endemol made Shafted. Now I realise why they use "The Prisoners Dilemma" on Golden Balls and recently on Big Brother.
GWaites 3 years ago 3
@GWaites Yes, but Russians also had a version of "Shafted". It was called "Ставка" (Stake)

This show plays off the prisoner dilemma, so basically most people will shaft because it plays off our 2 basic instincts.
Greed
Mistrust of others because you know your greedy, and assume everyone else is.
OR
Honesty
Mistrust of others because you know honesty is rare.
sketchydc 3 years ago
you didnt know what's coming just like golden balls
one splits the other steals

"You've shafted each other!"
"When he was talking to me, he couldn't look me in the face, he kept looking away.
I knew he was going to shaft me"
Man this is the best show I've ever seen.
