That's actually not true. Jack played it as Jack Nicholson. Heath disappeared n the role. I've seen tons of films, and Heath ranks up there with some of the best performances ever. I grew up with Nicholson as the Joker, but never really liked him to be honest. Now in my adult life I realize why,

As for the more depth part: Heath researched schizophrenia to understand what the Joker would act liek having escaped a mental hospital. Much more depth to his Joker than Nicholson's.

Ledger's Joker is by far the best yet, and DEFINITELY Oscar-worthy. But the Academy, knowing the assholes they are, would have snubbed him had he still been alive. They were pressured into giving him that Oscar, which is a good sign, because it shows that the public is a MUCH better judge than the prejudiced people at the Academy. MANY times, the Academy made decisions that the public disagreed with. Denying Ledger the Oscar would have been the final straw (for me, at least).

But there's also no denying that the Academy would most likely have snubbed him just like they did the film for the other major awards. It was because of public sympathy that he won.
