I have dell XPS desktop, already has two internal hard drive installed, has a place for the third one and according to dell XPS-9000 can take 3 internal hard drives. The problem is there are only two place for hard drive on motherboard ! is there any special SATA cable to connect the second and third hard drive (combined) to mother board?
hey today i bought i new sata cd rom. and they have given me just the data cable not that power cable which is shown in your video above. and in my pc the power cable is different. what should i do plz help me out.
Thanks very much. Just had to replace main hard drive, but was not sure of connectors on new SATA drive. PC now happily formatting the new disc. Keep up the good work! :-)
I tried installing a barracuda ata v hard drive on a computer that had an AT Fireball Plus AS previously installed. When I powered up the computer it tells me that I have a missing OS...but i know that XP is on that harddrive..and that XP ran off the previous harddrive...any tips?
just wondering do u do any more tips on anything but hard drives, i mean i clicked on more from expert village but every title has got the word hard drive or SATA in it........ :(
just a couple of pointers-- u may have to go into your bios settings to make sure your secondary sata port on the motherboard is open-- i had too do that and then go start-- run-- and type in diskmgmt.msc and partition and format the new hard drive-- hope this helps
do you have to set any jumpers on the hard drives and dvd recorder when you use the data cables i want to build my own but the new motherboards have different ribbon connections i will be using a asus p5q pro motherboard without a floppy drive this time so how do i put on the data cables from hard drive to dvd recorder and to the motherboard
thhe new i think was a st3500630as or similar drive with 500gbytes... some people need it but i never had a pc with more than one drive... i don´t need it!
Well it all depends IF you have an older PC that didn't have alot of HDD space like in MY case my DELL which I got in 2004 "only" has 40GB for storage and rather than me remove my existing HDD with Media,Windows XP etc. I'm going to add a 500GB Seagate HDD to my desktop for storage and use the factory 40GB for my OS. Sidenote I've only for 1.57Gigs of free space on my HDD after CD ripping and ZUNE purchases I'm just outta room!

Do you have to go into the bios and change master and slave now? Second, does the original IDE drive require a jumper even with a second SATA drive?

whats an ATA hard drive? does that refer to both PATA and SATA?
DaBossk 3 years ago
ATA is PATA
it uses that long cable instead of the small one that is used by SATA

no jumper settings required???
petemod94 4 years ago 2
my new sata drive hasn´t any jumper... there is only one to choose if sata 150 or sata 300
Messerschmitt262a2a 3 years ago
and which one should you choose?
Bodraw333 3 years ago
if your motherboard has sata 2 than you should choose sata 2... if it just has sata 1 , you should jump it to sata 1
Messerschmitt262a2a 3 years ago
Ok thanks ALOT for your help that should help thanks.
