It is always sad to see an mmo get shutdown. I know a lot of people get so atached to their characters and the game itself. I playes MXO for a coupole a months and it was a pretty decent game and very cinematic fights. Great setting. RIP MXO

@shideshide I think they made a big mistake, cause in Poland there is a big market interested in matrix only, so the game would be awesome, if someone would distribute it and maybe allow others to participate;

anyway, the game itself was I think good when I see it here, but they couldn't survive without marketing

I just found out today they shut it down in Aug. I hadn't played in years and I always wondered what happened.

Reminds me of the end of Beta, except the skys were blood red and filled with eyes creepily staring down at you. Then, at the very last moment, everyone crumpled up like empty pop cans just like in this vid.

yeah, this wasn't on vector-hostile it seems, there were 2 RP servers and 1 PVP server, Vector was the PVP server, PVP was always on, where he was (mara c) was essentially the pvp capital, on vector that was essentially where all the zionites hung out so it was pretty fun to go sniper and gank people there, PVP was always on after level 16 and you couldn't turn it off. Pretty fail i know. I used to play too, left for WoW cuz endgame sucked bigtime on MXO.

Maaaan... So many memories. I stopped playing MxO LOONG ago. This is news to me. Sad. But the reason I left was because I didn't like it anymore. It was getting old. The only thing we could really do in terms of interaction was to look at eachother's "avatars" and to create crews and factions. And do missions. Very little, and really got boring for me.

I always wished that MxO would have been done/made better. Barely resembled the actual Matrix movie.

Seeing all my MxO friends (As The Pride was the faction I was in) getting torn apart in one giant scream of anguish, is like a giant slap in the face from SOE.

The game was shutdown b/c it wasnt making money. All of the sysops were no longer around and there hadnt really been devs or artists for a while.

How exactly was anyone going to be able to stage some kind of "epic ending"? Some of what I see suggested here would actually require dev/artist time which OBVIOUSLY isnt going to happen.

What they should've done is give all the players online at that particular time is a Survival Mode type ending: An unending wave of Agents to fight against. Whoever had their characters killed gets booted from the server, with no option to reconnect.

At the end they should put Neo and teleport all the players at sme kind of special place/main square (Black-red sky and raining blood) and teleport all the players around him(agents-left/good-right). And GM as neo should go forward to the main server, and when he reaches it all the players have got lowered opacity, they're gray and noise. And all the textures should be gone leaving only green code. I've never played this game but this is cool ending.
