@nuttyboy101 - yes, great excitement, one of my first gigs and a trip to that London too. I got the 'Live at the Jacquard Club' tape for my birthday in 1982, that's what started the love affair off... must dig it out...!
Crikey, I've just seen the house that I lived in on Argyle Street in1981 or 82; we had a turkey that had been liberated from Bernard Matthews' farm living in the next garden! I never thought that I'd see that place again as the whole street was demolished years ago.
Saw The Farmers Boys & Serious Drinking a few times but The Higsons maybe eight times or so. Does anyone remember a band called "The Larks" playing with Higson people such as Terry Jones?
I disagree, we saw the Higsons every week at the Half Moon in Herne Hill, they were very popular and I think even got into the top 40, a mean feat in those days
Ah, wonderful! In 1983 I was absolutely obsessed with the 'Norwich Scene' despite living in Hertfordshire. A whole bunch of us went to see these 4 bands (at the Hammy Palais I think) in December '83. Thanks for this Safcjohnny!
This was the first time i heard Muck It Out by the Farmers Boys - Channel Four were simply the business when it came to music shows. Serious Drinking did relatively well but The Higsons were never going to be a big hit. As for Charlie however; he's still a fucking star.
yes, as you have already figure out by now. He was as much a comedian on stage with his band the Higsons as he was on the Fast Show- Once he listed a fictious gig in the NME under his alias Jacques

Fab vid. How young does Charlie "Switch" Higson look?
Massive Serious Drinking fan at the time. Still got my copy of TRSACT, must try and dig out the free beer mat that came with it!

Found some footage a while back I'd taped off Look East/About Anglia when the bulldozers moved in. Sad day.

Popular Voice by far had the most talent- Although i had seen the Higsons about 10 times, i was blown away by P.V.

Yeah Jacques Hughes, (J'accuse) the french crooner who supposedly sang their cover of Music to Watch Girls By.

Popular Voice seemed quite good didn't they ? But surely it was the Vital Disorders who lived in King Street. Is the Brown Derby pub still there ?
