its always good to see new young wheelers, and female wheelers! welcome to the trails and good luck! u better stay on your dad for driving tips..experience means everything. my wife started out with a semi stock 98toy and now drives a 02 toy/truggy..full tube chassis but we stuck with a modified yota running driveline. she loves to see other women out there. good luck again!
Before I did my SAS on my 99 TRD Tacoma I removed my sway bar and I really liked how it handled offroad without it. Try it out you might like it as much as me, just a tip from a fellow Tacoma fan:)
@CharlieDoan my "Tacoma" Never had torsion bars, the factory stock set up was 1 sway bar in the frount along with frount coil over/ strut style bilstiens for the frount and leaf sprins in the rear.
@TheCaferocker ...WArning Danger: You must put back for highway driving, That sway bar were designed for anti-rolling ...If high speed and without that you can get kill. (a friendly remind)
@CharlieDoan I never run swaybars on any of my trucks they make it way to stiff and the Tacoma ran fine on the highway without it when it was IFS with the stock width A-arms. And if you offroad alot the sway bar can actually cause you to roll easier by not allowing the suspension to flex to obsticles but instead pitching the vehicle from side to side over them. Now my Tacoma is sitting on full width DANA 60's and getting a full EXO right now no need for a sway bar anymore.
@TheCaferocker not sure about take sway bar 100% permanent off from the vehicle. In 2008 my wife buy a new Scion Xd (corolla engine and chassis) when on the curve and high speed on freeway, We feel like need somethings to hold down the vehicle, we came back to Toyota dealer and they install TRD SWAY BAR + more to help the beam in the back and we did . Now We feel likew drive a BIG VAN. Thanks TRD and really can save life for us to have a sway bar (ANTI-ROLLING ) is what design for.Agree?
@CharlieDoan From the sound of it you dont know what I'm talking about my trucks are built by me I know how they handle on road so I drive accordingly but at the same time like I said in the last comment I switched out my Toyota axles for 75 inch wide DANA 60 axles, to be honest I dont care I rolled my old jeep 5 times it was built for it and my tacoma will be rolled I'm counting on it. Not all vehicles need sway bars, your XD needs them its a street car my offroad vehicles dont.
@TheCaferocker ..I must ask Toyota engineer in Japan to tell them about OUR STORIES on the sway bar and let them Japanese engineers working on this... I knew but I need more technique data and graphic on today high tech to prove more. I live with safe an get use to. (I am not saying that you doing WRONG!) shake hand with you.
get some armor for that tacoma. sliders/bumpers are awesome and they are also cheap insurance. do you have the bilstein c/o's or a spacer lift in the front?
You should get some 01-04 tail lights also, they look really good on 98-00 tacomas. :)
I've been saving up for sliders which I should get here sometime soon. Havn't taken it off road since this video. This is the hardest trail I'd ever take it on armorless though, but I trusted my dad to make it through alright.
It has the bilstein c/o's in the front from Toy-Tec. Thanks for the tail light input. Honestly, I've never liked the white taillights, but I bought it with them on it, and they kind of bring the chrome out of the color. So I'll probably hang on to them for a bit.
is this the truck you ran in the snow vid and love the scenery and took those similar trails there fun never touched my front locker on 04 f250 to save those tires (witch i run turn of locker if possible on some of those easy turns
I like your driving style. I recognized parts of several trails, but I'm confused by your reference to Pritchett Canyon. Without a winch or front locker I don't think it's possible that you actually ran the trail without damage and your truck looked clean everywhere. What part of the trail did you do? I ran it about a month ago and ended up using one of the winch points on Axle Hill. I've got an 89 4Runner with crawl gears, lockers and a reasonable lift.
We just went into the trail a little ways. We were a bit uneasy on some parts in the beginning where the trail dips down and immediately turns (in multiple spots) where it gets more rutted out each year. You eventually get to one of these points that you need armor to get through, that is where we turned around. If that all made sense. That was the day we checked into the hotel so we figured we'd just pop down in there real fast.
Sway bars are like condoms. Safer with them on but a lot better with them off.

@TheCaferocker ? front or rear sway bar?
CharlieDoan 9 months ago
@CharlieDoan There is no rear sway bar on a tacoma, at least not on mine so that means the frount sway bar of course.
TheCaferocker 9 months ago
@TheCaferocker Yes, You're right. Only Front sway bar + 2 torsion bars on 2 sides.

Sweet Taco I mean Tacoma. I saw during EJS 06' that someone took off the "ma" from it so it was a Toyota Taco. I thought it was funny.
snipermcguns1 2 years ago
A lot of people like to do that. It's funny. I've also seen people take of the "ota" and just leave Toy.
