Also, I tell you what - the more I watch him, the more he reminds me of my friend Darren. I'm 20, Darren is 37. And I consider Darren the most intelligent man I've ever met...

Just sort of, emotionally and he's so sharp and, Artie reminds me of him. Like he knows immediately before he's finished a line if it's connected and if it hasn't he keeps talking so it doesn't sound like it failed and him getting high off his own laughter with Dave, re-laughing etc. - I think he's very smart.

A lot of people just don't appreciate some of his darker humour because they haven't been there.

I'm depressed as fuck and 99% bi-polar but funny too and I can totally appreciate his humour. When people gasp and go "oh wow this guy's messed up" they just don't realize he's trying to be funny.

If you're in a dark place = your humour will be dark, as will all your comments and outlook. Your moods shape your perspective. I never used to like him that much but he's grown on me.

I love Artie Lange. He can take any hurtful or scary situation and make it funny. It is a RARE GIFT. He is highly sensitive, like MANY ARTISTS. He is also highly intuitive, and feels the insults a little differently than you might. We can forgive him for some of his more hurtful jokes. He is growing, and he is helping people, by giving them a little diversion. Lets send love and prayers for health and success.

artie acts different here than on conan. maybe he's scared of letterman, and not conan. he doesn't seem to take his appearance on conan seriously... last time he went on conan, he was overly negative, jaded, and dressed like a sloppy, fat child molester. maybe the audience on conan is more cynical and offbeat, that's maybe why he feels he has to deprecate himself, no?

He's friendly with Conan. He's been on Conan many times, and while he's not "friends" with him, they're on friendly terms. Plus, Conan has a way of putting his guests at ease. I imagine Artie probably feels he can be more casual on Conan's show. And let's face it, it's impossible to be on friendly terms with Letterman. A Letterman appearance is never casual. Of course Artie isn't acting the way he does on Conan, he wouldn't get away with it on Letterman.

im no expert so here is my two cents. Trent you are very observant of Arties latest appearance on Conan. Art admitted on the Stern show that he didnt follow the interview script. He tried to do what Howard used to do but couldnt pull it off as well. Krazy you are right. Artie could never try to do the same on Letterman. Letterman is much more powerful in show business.
