after trying numerous different methods of fixing my 360, looking over replacement drives, reading up how to un-solder the pvc boards n such with a good year or so of borrowing friends xbox's I've finally found this vid ... and the solution to my problems. instead of pushing that piece thru the case and bending it, if you look closely at it you will see itt is 2 pieces and they twist apart . Much easier than forcing it thru and bending it.

Those screws are called pots. This method of pot tweeking should be done ideally with a multimeter turning anticlockwise or clockwise depending on your drive/laser type, until it reads the game. One pot is for the laser reading games and the other is for the laser reading CDs. For a Samsung drive 3.0k > 3.4k ohms works best. Turn a fraction at a time if your not using a multimeter until you get the laser to read. Benq - Liteon / Samsung - Hitachi. Turning the pot in the proper direction.

Made sure the lasers start position is next to the drive spindle

cleaned laser with cleaning fluid

adjusted pot by about a quarter turn

@NeoSmoke i somewhat fixed it, i left the case a little open at the front, so that the magnetic piece can come out and go in with it... that somewhat reduces the noise a bit, but it seems better to install to HDD everytime. Your solution to this does work, except i think i only had to pull the laser eye back down and boot it up. and it works. So thanks for this video because it works! :)

I was pretty skeptical that this was going to fix my open tray error...i would have to keep opening and closing the tray until the game finally loaded, sometimes it would only take 2-3 minutes, sometimes it would take 15-20 minutes. A quicker way to fix this is to pick your xbox up with game in it, face the disc drive to the ground and push the open button open it and push it again to close it. The laser becomes unstuck with the help of gravity..

Ok does anyone know why my Xbox says "can't read disk" while I play games that are fully downloaded off the marketplace. It also occurs randomly throughout C.D. games. I have tried many different C.D.s and many different downloaded games and the same thing happens. It randomly says "cant read disk". Be careful when adusting that laser without an ohmmeter turning the resistance down too far on that potentiometer will fry your laser and turning it more than is neccessary will shorten the lasers lifespan. best to measure the resistance before you change anything using the two terminals on the same side of the pot (there are three terminals on the pot one on one side and two on the other) to test on 20k ohm setting. Use increments of 100k till it works. 2.80 or lower will fry your laser.
