  • some mistakes:

Г: actually it CAN be "soft": ГИТАРА, ГЕЛЬ, ГЕННАДИЙ, ГЕНИЙ, ГИМНАСТ - more examples?. and actually in English it is called "palatalized".

У is NOT like in up, but like in book.

Ы is not pronounced as "yi"(otherwise it will be a Ukrainian ї.) it's really a bit similar to i in ill, but more "open".

  • @warrock930 как дела?

  • привет

  • im in russian one and i knew all of these but i used it as a quiz for my simester finals so thanks

  • There are some mistakes in the video. Ъ - prounounced like soft and short sound "Э", Ь - prounounced like short "и". For example, the name Марья became Мария, beause of prounouncation.

I'm sorry for my bad english, just i'm a russian one. )

  • Йцукенгшщзхфывапролджэячсмитьбю it makes no sence

  • I love this language, is very challenger but exited =)))). I am learning true Rosetta stone, but i think is very important to know where all come from and need to be from the alphabet, so i am getting good, but still don't know the alphabet =(

  • This is so confusing :(

  • Я, my favorite:)

  • thank u so much

  • @naturalandpure ukrainian.

  • o looks like a face

  • @naturalandpure If you know Russian you practicly can understand all Slavic laguages

  • Ъ = tyio-sic-nackt

    Ь = miya-cis-nackt

Thats how I prenounce them, tell me if it isnt suppose to sound like that xD

  • ЫыЫыЫыЫы ОлОлО

  • Respond to this video... thanks but why NOT in order

  • @naturalandpure Russian and Bulgarian are similar only on paper. In a vocal conversation you might get lost in translation. If you know either of the Slavic languages (Russian, Bulgarian, Serbo-Croatian, Czech etc) you should be able to understand the rest to a certain degree. Serbian is very similar to Russian and Bulgarian, a Serb should have no prob talking to a Russian or a Bulgarian.

  • retard russian y isnt the u in up, it makes an "oo" sound

  • @naturalandpure They are Slavic languages, knowing Russian will help greatly in learning other Slavic languages.

  • Oo o

  • @naturalandpure The native speaker

To the foreigner it will be difficult

  • The cyrilc alphabet was not created by Cyril and Methodius. They created glagolic alphabet. The cyrilic alphabet was created by their students Naum and Angelary in Bulgarian capital Plisca and named after saint Cyril.

  • 0:51 scares people

  • @ipodchik

    it only scares niggas

  • This was really awsome :D

  • the same complicated for me learn english =)

  • You're a great teacher! Thank you very much! It's better than listening the pronunciation.

  • it is very complicated i don't know how can i learn this language .

  • Macedonia was and remained a country of Macedonians and first homeland of all Slavic peoples. All these people come from the Balkans, the Macedonian spaces.

Strong confirmation of this fact is a narrative monument this analysis from the VIII century, which today is stored in a central library in Moscow.

    In it is written:...

  • In it is written: "We, Russians - Moskovits are descendants of ancient Macedonians.

We speak the language of the ancient Macedonians. "As we see, testimony which confirms the Macedonian character of all Slavic peoples.

  • Variety of Russian and Polish authors investigating behind the Carpathians, and then came to the conclusion that these spaces have never been human life, thus denying all imaginations of Western historiography

  • [p]

  • thanks im just trying tomlearn russian cause its the most awesome language ever and has the coolest accent

  • with no sound ...!...

  • I'm starting to learn Russian too. It's a nice language, but the alphabet is a bit tricky to learn. All my life I've read a "P" like... well like a "p" in "people". Now when I look at it, I must read it as a "R". It's quite confusing sometimes... I've learned 2 romance languages and 2 Germanic languages and everywhere the alphabet is the same. But in Russian, the alphabet is different and it takes sometime until your brain "accepts" to read "P" as "R", "H" as "N", etc. :)

  • HydroPT619, what are the romance languages you've learned? justr wanted to know... French, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian??? the last one I am currently working on it, it's ease to learn the alphabet and the way of reading, but it's hard to make up yourself some sentences.

  • My mother tongue is Portuguese and I've learned French (6 years). I can also speak Spanish, but just because it's similar to Portuguese. I cannot write it though. I also learn English (9 years) and German (4 years). Russian is my final language (2 months xD).

I've been told that Romanian is similar to Portuguese, and yes, the grammar of the romance languages is pretty tricky. Easy to read but hard to make correct sentences. The German grammar is also very hard...

  • Ahhh c'est bien que tu parles français, c'est une belle langue :)

  • Actually, I don't. Even though I had 6 years of French, I never actually enjoyed the language, so I cannot speak well. I can read and understand most things, but writing and talking is very different. I don't like how French sounds, sorry. :)

  • It's ok :) I think it might be reaaly different when it's your first language and you can understand everything. I also think what kind of french you learn. That my opinion and you can think what you want :P

  • c'est bien vrai!

  • well if you compare the case system of russian to the romance languages russian is far more complicated. it has 6 of them.

  • The case system (sort of) exists in Romance languages too, but it's much simpler. You don't change the words, they are equal, you just need to place them in the right order. For example, the accusative is the direct object, the dative is the indirect object, and so on. English has only one case left, the genitive. German has 4 cases and since I study German, I'm already used to the case system. :)

Still, I find Russian a simple language. You can say what you want with few words...

  • @hxasmirl 7 cases

  • heh I almost know the whole alhabet. But I can"t remember the "ŠČ". The Russian aplhabet (or azbuka like we call it) is really not hard to learn. You just have to play with it,it"s quite fun to learn the Russian alphabet

  • we need audio too

  • excellent job. Very useful,I"m trying to learn this. I"m very interested in russian language (I don"t study it at school),it just fascinates me,very interesting language

  • Where is the Cyrllic equivalent of "w"?

  • there is no 'w ' equivalent in russian

  • theres none, w is 'v'

  • no sound?? wtf!

  • ... wha the heck?

  • this is like serbian kinda

  • ang hirap naman ng lenguahe ng mga russo.

  • Huh? (I'm Filipino, but I don't understand tagalog. I think my Russian is better than Tagalog,LOL) You said something, about being blind and Russian.

  • ЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫЫ

  • The Ъ and Ь are definitely not yer or yeri nowadays. The Ь is myahkiy znak(soft sign) and Ъ из tvyordiy znak (hard sign)

  • 1:05 looks like the "0.o" emoticon thing. lol

i just had 2 point that out...

  • lol! it does xD

  • the "y" in the russian alphabet isnt prounounced like "u" in up is is like "oo" in zoo!!!!

  • very helpful video, but thumbs up if you think 0:49 is kinda messed up lol

  • Russian У is not like "u" in "up", definitely not!!! У is more like "oo" in zoo.

  • BRO this is useless without pronunciation of each letter

    fix it

  • Please include sound.

  • ochen' xorosho. however, the y is wrong. it is not a short u sound as in up. it is the long oo sound as in pool or stool. universitet is not pronounced uh-ni-ver-si-tyet but oo-ni-ver-si-tyet. Also the hard sign is called tvyordiy znak and the soft sign is called myagkiy znak and the letter between is the yeriy. however the rest of this is pretty good.

  • its not "oo-ni-ver-si-tyet" its yoo-ni-ver-si-tee. the "y" sound at the beginning is very important, thank you.

  • it is a oo not a yoo. look again. the first letter is shaped like an english y & not the vertical line connected to a circle with a horizontal line. y is definitely oo. not yoo.

  • I just ment for the pronunciation of university, actually.

  • Spicy Shimmer...I was talking about the russian not the english. That would be the source of your confusion, I would say...

  • Actually, the only consonants that are "never" soft are ж ц and ш (г can be soft--pronounced gy). Also, у is pronounced "oo" as in room (not u as in "up")

  • 1.russian language does not lay down on a Latin

2.russia then traded with konstantinopol, therefore 75 % of letters the Greek.

  • That's right! The I forgot Cyril was Byzantine greek. He gave them what he knew.

BTW thanks for all the thumbs down guys...

  • they were macedonian

  • According to Wikipedia, Cyril and his brother were Byzantine Greeks. Its right that they were born in Thessalonica which was in Macedonia but the Byzantines spoke Greek and viewed themselves as Greek, not Macedonian...

  • That because we were must make a lot of new letters to represent such sounds like "Ы" ,"Й", "Ж", "Ц", "Я" and other. Russian alphabet has personal letter for each sound we have. No strange doubles like "ch", "sh", "zh", "sch" for a single sound. This makes alphabet ideal.

  • what about the R sound?

  • "what about the R sound?"

Look at 1:10 in the video--The letter looks like the English P,p
