Yeah mine just got the yellow light today plus one games still inside it!! Sending it out in 3 days had my ps3 since 2010 ... But good thing I got a Xbox 360 Slim !! They said to fix my ps3 it will cost $107.00 with a 90 day warranty. He took me for a ride. Each hard drive is recognized by its original PS3 and ONLY it's original ps3, so I'm bringing it back and getting a new one, fuck it.

@SovietChikun You can sent it into a repair shop that will be able to fix it for you. Just google PS Pros. They should be able to get it working again. Once you get it back (if they're successful) do a backup of your data right away because it may die again for good shortly after it's been repaired.

I feel you it happened to me too, fortunately Sony allowed me to get a new ps3 slim for $ 150 with shipping and handling. Still got my slim and totally worth it.

The YLOD thing happened to my ps3 yesterday and I fortunetaly saved my bf3 which was stuck inside the system, ps should have a button or something that u could push so the disc flips out even when the system is down. I had to smash it to get out the game but hey now I have a new one:)
I find that when it starts to blink, very quickly turning it off and on well solve the problem. Keep on press the until it starts a second time. But i have to do it every time i turn it on. It never showed when I play games only when I start it.
My ps3 fat 40 gb from 2006 have the yellow light problem, it happened to me in 2011 may be in july, the thing is that it still working just you have to turn it over and over again it will take time but qhen it starts you have to leave it in stand by for 2 min , if you dont do that it will turn off. Well if yo do that you must have a cooller. It works!!

Fuck Sony....all they do is rob people....I have the same problem, well had the same problem, I'm now playing my XBOX. I called Sony customer service and they stated my system is out of warranty and its not as reliable as the newer versions. I talk to Tony #47774 and he wanted me to pay to get it repair and I will then have 3 months warranty on it. He basically told me to go get the new PS3 and forget about it. Sony Sucks...My system was in a cool area, never fall or water damage and its dead.

this happened to me but I still manage to keep my ps3 working.... when I turn it on the first time the red light goes green then yellow then it starts blinking red... I press the on button so the red light goes steady.... then I press it again and it turns on normal.... the only difference is that in the video the guy presses the on button again and then the eject button what I normally do is press the on button and it does work... my ps3 is having this yellow light thing for about 4 moths now..

The only way you can back-up the hard drive is to buy a SATA case($40) and use your computer. You will also need to get the PS casing off of the hard drive so yo need a screw driver too.
how did you back-up your hard drive.. or did you. I had the same problem what happened was (sony wont admit it) your motherboard overheated or cracked due to the overheating of the PS2 chip on the board. If you would have gotten a PS3 without backwards compatibility this would not have happened. This is why the newer PS3s don't have backwards compatibility, it would cost too much to replace everyones PS3 after it breaks. Now they can fix it for about $120 but they wont back-up your hard drive!
Sony has some nasty customer service. I called them and the guy i spoke to was really nasty and sony will only fix it for over $100. and apparently there fix is the same thing you see on youtube and only lasts 3 months. That or you can trade your ps3 in to get a refurb for $99. I just fuckin did it myself. Plus i replaced the power supply with a cooler one and put some new hardware in it.. Sony has shitty customer service!

It's an awesome feature that the Ps3 SHOULD have. Why it doesn't? I have no clue. I've been considering getting a Ps3 because Final Fantasy Versus XIII Is something I'm really looking forward to playing. I guess you should have both consoles in any case if you're not a broke ass. @murat1234ish, dude, with shit I've been reading up and hearing up, the xbox 360 is the worse console to get, you might want to look up some of complaints such as the RROD, 360 unusual account bans, CD ring scratchs, if you want a powerful gaming system on the market, get PS3, ideal a 80gb or a slim, not the 60gb if you want to avoid YLOD possiblity, anything PS3 3rd Generation or above, you may not be able to play backward compatiblity, but it's more stable than the 60GB.
Yea its pretty much a hardware error.You basically need to reflow the motherboard.Replacing Sony low grade thermal paste.Do a google search and there are plenty of videos on how to do it.Its not hard. I fixed a few PS3 in a matter of hours.You can get all the supplies cheap off ebay or go to radioshack.From my experience if your ps3 fails its either that or a failed part.Which you can easily fix.
Thay charged me 110 pounds then when I got my new ps3 60g it broke down after 5mins and Sony are going to leave me with out a ps for up to one week that takes the ps
I have both. I pretty much got the ps3 for metal gear solid. The online service for xbox 360 is better but Ps3 has better graphics but it operates more like a computer. Installing and downloading is slow as hell.
@jxsilicon9 , Get a Solid State Drive upgrade then for your ps3, if you can afford it, installation game time is 10x faster, all ps3 are built with a SATA Notebook 2.5 hard drive inside, if you want fast installation and loading time, Solid State State is the future, the trouble is, it's pricy, rougly $1-$2 (£1) per a Gigabite on ebay, Platter = Metal Disk, SSD = Microchips build on the same technology as an USB Flash drive, it won't void your ps3 warrenty, unlike the 360.
@jxsilicon9, well 360 will also go 10x faster on a SSD, the prices are dropping and there are a lot of pc shops that are no longer selling platter anymore, platter is practually only good for network drives and desktop pc's, the troube is, most common problems with loading & game play errors are caused by the hard drive by static, vibration and just plain fails from being over heated, ssd don't overheat, no static, vibration is impossible, 2.5 HDD life is practually 6-12 months, SSD is for life.
@jxsilicon9 , i'm only telling you from my experience and others, I'm a computer a engineer and a game player, so I know the comparrestment of both the SSD and HDD, I too don't sell my laptops with platter anymore, due to carrying a laptop and overheating on laps can causes damage to the hard drive, resulting in constant repairs of customers computers, great thing about ssd, if you upgrade the console, or another SATA port model game console comes out, you can always switch over your SSD drive.
@jxsilicon9, Actually the largest SSD on the market is 256GB, and the largest Platter 2.5 HDD on the market is 3TB, that's because Platter is built by machines, like machines building cars, SSD however, is built by humans, that's why HDD is advance on storage and SSD is lacking, but as time goes on, SSD will catch up, Price for 256GB SSD is around £400 ($800), as for a Platter of that size is £30 ($60), so I can see why people angry on cost, but it's better saving buying a new HDD all the time.

Fuck Sony....all they do is rob people....I have the same problem, well had the same problem, I'm now playing my XBOX. I called Sony customer service and they stated my system is out of warranty and its not as reliable as the newer versions. I talk to Tony #47774 and he wanted me to pay to get it repair and I will then have 3 months warranty on it. He basically told me to go get the new PS3 and forget about it. Sony Sucks...My system was in a cool area, never fall or water damage and its dead.

i've had the ps3 from when it came out, and last Thursday was when this started happening, and my fuckin $60 Battlefield 3 is stuck in there, the ps3 started overheating over the summer, all you gotta do is just keep a can of compressed air nearby and as soon as u hear a beat you'll here it three times, and see the green light flashing, use the compressed air to spray the vents for a good 30 seconds, eventually the light will stop flash, and your good to go, until it happens again, so keep it w

this happened to me but I still manage to keep my ps3 working.... when I turn it on the first time the red light goes green then yellow then it starts blinking red... I press the on button so the red light goes steady.... then I press it again and it turns on normal.... the only difference is that in the video the guy presses the on button again and then the eject button what I normally do is press the on button and it does work... my ps3 is having this yellow light thing for about 4 moths now..

The only way you can back-up the hard drive is to buy a SATA case($40) and use your computer. You will also need to get the PS casing off of the hard drive so yo need a screw driver too.

how did you back-up your hard drive.. or did you. I had the same problem what happened was (sony wont admit it) your motherboard overheated or cracked due to the overheating of the PS2 chip on the board. If you would have gotten a PS3 without backwards compatibility this would not have happened. This is why the newer PS3s don't have backwards compatibility, it would cost too much to replace everyones PS3 after it breaks. Now they can fix it for about $120 but they wont back-up your hard drive!

Sony has some nasty customer service. I called them and the guy i spoke to was really nasty and sony will only fix it for over $100. and apparently there fix is the same thing you see on youtube and only lasts 3 months. That or you can trade your ps3 in to get a refurb for $99. I just fuckin did it myself. Plus i replaced the power supply with a cooler one and put some new hardware in it.. Sony has shitty customer service!

@murat1234ish I play on the Xbox 360 but I've used a Ps3 for awhile. I prefer the Xbox 360 because I love the party chat/private chat/ voice messaging. It's an awesome feature that the Ps3 SHOULD have. Why it doesn't? I have no clue. I've been considering getting a Ps3 because Final Fantasy Versus XIII Is something I'm really looking forward to playing. I guess you should have both consoles in any case if you're not a broke ass. Simply because of the different console exclusives. GoW3 ftw <3 Js.

@murat1234ish, dude, with shit I've been reading up and hearing up, the xbox 360 is the worse console to get, you might want to look up some of complaints such as the RROD, 360 unusual account bans, CD ring scratchs, if you want a powerful gaming system on the market, get PS3, ideal a 80gb or a slim, not the 60gb if you want to avoid YLOD possiblity, anything PS3 3rd Generation or above, you may not be able to play backward compatiblity, but it's more stable than the 60GB.

Yea its pretty much a hardware error.You basically need to reflow the motherboard.Replacing Sony low grade thermal paste.Do a google search and there are plenty of videos on how to do it.Its not hard. I fixed a few PS3 in a matter of hours.You can get all the supplies cheap off ebay or go to radioshack.From my experience if your ps3 fails its either that or a failed part.Which you can easily fix.

I have both. I pretty much got the ps3 for metal gear solid. The online service for xbox 360 is better but Ps3 has better graphics but it operates more like a computer. Installing and downloading is slow as hell.

@jxsilicon9 , Get a Solid State Drive upgrade then for your ps3, if you can afford it, installation game time is 10x faster, all ps3 are built with a SATA Notebook 2.5 hard drive inside, if you want fast installation and loading time, Solid State State is the future, the trouble is, it's pricy, rougly $1-$2 (£1) per a Gigabite on ebay, Platter = Metal Disk, SSD = Microchips build on the same technology as an USB Flash drive, it won't void your ps3 warrenty, unlike the 360.

@jxsilicon9, well 360 will also go 10x faster on a SSD, the prices are dropping and there are a lot of pc shops that are no longer selling platter anymore, platter is practually only good for network drives and desktop pc's, the troube is, most common problems with loading & game play errors are caused by the hard drive by static, vibration and just plain fails from being over heated, ssd don't overheat, no static, vibration is impossible, 2.5 HDD life is practually 6-12 months, SSD is for life.

@jxsilicon9 , i'm only telling you from my experience and others, I'm a computer a engineer and a game player, so I know the comparrestment of both the SSD and HDD, I too don't sell my laptops with platter anymore, due to carrying a laptop and overheating on laps can causes damage to the hard drive, resulting in constant repairs of customers computers, great thing about ssd, if you upgrade the console, or another SATA port model game console comes out, you can always switch over your SSD drive.

@jxsilicon9, Actually the largest SSD on the market is 256GB, and the largest Platter 2.5 HDD on the market is 3TB, that's because Platter is built by machines, like machines building cars, SSD however, is built by humans, that's why HDD is advance on storage and SSD is lacking, but as time goes on, SSD will catch up, Price for 256GB SSD is around £400 ($800), as for a Platter of that size is £30 ($60), so I can see why people angry on cost, but it's better saving buying a new HDD all the time.
