Thanks very much for posting this. All those years I've lived in Brooklyn (I've even drilled with the Naval Reserve at the "White Elephant" building) and I was never able to get into the tower or even join a tour of the place. This field is so rich in history. Too bad the runways were being destroyed. I remember years ago when WWII planes used to land every Memorial Day. Again.. thanx! :)

You're quite welcome. Yes, the tower felt sanctified from its historic heritage, despite its decrepit condition. I understand from the New York Times article this summer that it is undergoing rehab. Glad you liked it!
