@Punkgunner......you sound like an idiot, but that's OK! My tastes in music have been questioned too!! Debating music.....almost as dangerous as talkin' religion......or politics!! LOL! :)
Does anyone knows who's written this song, and who's playing the original version. For years I took for granted that the original was by Sandy Denny & the Bunch, but because I've heard so many versions now, I'm getting more and more uncertain. So please, tell me if you know! Thx!

I used to be in love with Linda big time back in the seventies, I even saw her opening for Neil Young back in the day (73) what a nice looking woman, wow.
One thing has always bugged me, why two of the greatest singers never released a duet together; that being Linda Ronstadt and Roy Orbison ( r.i.p.).Anything they could have done together would have been unbelievable vocally and musically.
@theoriginalbadbob, well Linda doesn't but "Yma Sumac recorded an extraordinarily wide vocal range of more than five octaves from B2 to C#7 (approximately 123 to 2270 Hz).", if you trust wikipedia
@Toffeeman01 Thanks for the info. I have been aware of Yma Sumac for over 50 years, but didn't realize she had such an amazing range. I'm pretty sure I saw her on a couple of variety shows in the 50s. I checked wikipedia and agree she had a range of 5 octaves, but I question the figure of 2270 cycles. (Why did they change it from cycles to Hertz?) The average man can hear up to 10K CPS, and the average woman up to 12K CPS. The average man SPEAKS under 2K CPS, I believe.
@theoriginalbadbob Bad Bob, I suspect your right about the dubiousness of the range in cycles (or hertz) but it might explain the number of dogs that bought Ms Sumac's records :-).
Even though we can't hear much beyond 15Khz the greater range provided by Hi-Fi equipment does allow us to be "aware" of harmonics.
@Sheepbuz Right. God's such an ego monster, he'll roast anybody who dares to question His existence. I guess it's true what they say about His making us in His image.
I love this classic rock song and no one sells it like Linda Ronstadt. I'd love to hear a remastered version of the song that picked up the great drum line.
One of my favorite pop, country, rock artists. I loved her ability to cross music genres, and regardless of which type of music she sang, I loved it all. My only wish is that she would have stuck with this formula later in her career. I miss her.
That was a fantastic show, wouldn't mind getting hold of the full programme. Come on Whispering Bob (Harris) can you help. Definintely worthy of 5 stars.
What year is this from and what is it from?.......I just read that Fogerty's new album will have him singing a duet with Springsteen of this song.......Not sure if it can top Linda's, but it should be good
This song was released in 1974 and was on the album "Heart Like a Wheel". It hit the #1 spot on the charts in early 1975. She had the best voice of any female singer I've ever heard to date, Patsy Cline included!
Thanks........I was mostly curious about this particular performance, where and when it was recorded. It's awesome....She certainly ruled the charts in my junior high and high school days!
I had the damndest crush on her from the time I was 10 years old in 1971 right on through 1982. I have 14 of her albums! People said Stevie Nicks was the first lady back then.....They never looked or listened at Linda!

Great to see this old performance, but why oh why did they cut out the fabulous steel guitar break and only use it as a stage prop? electric guitar is not even a reasonable likeness!
I had dinner with Andrew (Gold) last night and asked him about it....He said "no pedal steel was used on the recorded version of this song...It was just Dan Dugmore and myself on the record playing duel-lead".....He went on to add...."I never could replicate THAT sound (that's on the record) onstage."
Well shut my mouth. If you didn't tell me so, I never would have believed that two leads could get THAT sound! a real testimony to a peak performance I have to say; thanks for setting the record straight & Happy New Year!
