  • up here when they move the steamers they come out by GP30 or sometimes under their own power

  • up here at spencer nc they have a Seaboard decapod and my dad says it cant run that they disabled something so it coundnt run they have two small consolations but they wont run the decapod

  • Even if she is put together it would be a pain in the butt to try and take her anywhere. Because Union Pacific owns EVERYTHING in the world they dont allow anything they dont own onto their tracks. Dad was the fireman on the 819 back in the 80's and even despite the selfish old men that ran everything he loved working the locomotive. UP doesn't understand the value of history.

  • as dinky of a town as Pine Bluff is I can understand them not getting any funding... They should have moved it into the UP Yard maybe Little Rock could have chipped in and help rebuild her for excursion...

  • they moved it with that tiny thing. dang

  • when will 819 run again

  • @unionpacific5511 more then likely never. from what i understand is most of the nuts and bolts for the steam engine is missing. people who have prints for this loco is not sharing, the people in charge of it are ass holes and wont let anyone work on it. pretty much its a screwed project. they need to let a younger generation take control of it before they mess it up to the point it cant be fixed.

  • I don't get it. The Arkansas Railroad Museum used to run #819 really often, and now they're ignoring that giant steamie for leasing diesels. WHAT A WASTE ON POWER! GET THE ENGINE FIXED, THEN I'LL GO SEE IT IN ACTION, AND THERE WILL BE NO QUESTIONS! GET ROSS ROWLAND INTO THIS, AND THEY MIGHT GET SOMEWHERE WITH THI DAMNED RESTORATION! I'm gonna go take a nap now. Bye.

  • Will we 'she It agIIN!?

  • why is she out of service

  • because of her 15 year ( or 1,200 ans something day ) inspection. every 15 years they strip operating steam engines down and inspect them.

  • when will she reoperate

  • The people at the Museum seem to like spending their money on leasing Diesel Locomotives and Painting them, than working on the SSW 819.

    What a shame...

  • @ReagonProductions

I believe they own the engine, and they need something in operation to move stuff around.

  • The 819 kicked ass - it really had a feeling to it that for some reason you just can't get from 261 or 844.

  • What happened to her anyway? Why's the poor 819 stuck inside?

  • The SSW 819 is currently undergoing a 15 year idle inspection and restoration. she needs all of the donations she can get $ 200,000 estimated price to be fully restored. please donate to the Arkansas Railroad Museum, Pine Bluff, Ar

  • wow a 25 ton switcher does not have alot of power to move a 4-8-4 or a 2-8-4 Heavy or light Mikado. Plus it would be great to se her back in action doing what she was build to do.

  • Why dont they rebuild her?

  • Is the 819 coming back together to run? I loved riding down to Rison in the late '80s and early '90s

  • When do you expect 819 to be ready?

  • unfortunately, it is no more put together then it has been in years, there are no flues, the superheaters need to be rebuilt, and sevral other tasks remain!

  • There's no place to run the 819 anymore as I understand it.

  • @Barogas You are right. With UP owning the SSW now. And them having one steam train for their own Public Relations which they only run one or a few public trip a year on. (844) We are left out. Remember: if you just let us merge you'll get better rail service. Public interest demands merger! Leave it up to rail management they know best! Do they? Seens we're left out now. But they have to do what their overseas stockholders want. All that oil money has to go somewhere.

  • Got to see it finally last weekend. One fine locomotive.

  • what condition is she in?

  • Pretty much the same. Missing the boiler jacket and some cab appliances. Closer to being back together than it's been in quite a few years.

  • It was restored in the 1980's. It was rebuilt in the late 90's.

  • She been sitting there since the 1990's not running.I was there in the late 1900's or early 2000's and saw her being restored. I used to love seeing that locomotive. It was the first steam engine I ever seen. That beauty got me in to trains.

  • When is she supposed to be done?

  • Steam that mother up!

  • send some cash and we will, about 200k should get it ready for the open rails!
