LOL this is funny - The public option would have had to fund itself through permiums. In the end they would habe taken everyone who wanted it and let the people decide.
You ever heard of a car insurance company called "Access"? How about "Explorer"? Look em up.
I drive a muscle car, I'm a 22 year old student with plenty of tickets and an at fault accident on my record. Most people pay 3 times my monthly premium for insurance.
According to your argument, since these insurance companies are so much cheaper, people would switch from Geico, Farmers, Allstate, AAA, etc, and they all would go bankrupt.
@wildbloodydragon I looked for the connection between Access and Explorer and government subsidies but couldn't find it, do you have a link?
"According to your argument, since these insurance companies are so much cheaper, people would switch from Geico, Farmers, Allstate, AAA, etc, and they all would go bankrupt."
Do these subsidized companies provide the same quality as the others and are there eligibility requirements?
@ElJefer Hah, looks like you're attacking a straw man now. You looked for a connection that doesn't exist. They are private companies, not subsidized by the government in any way.
Funny how even after research and failing to find any evidence indicating government subsidy, you still assumed they are subsidized. LOL.
Goes you show the flawed logic people with your kind of mindset possess.
@wildbloodydragon I assumed that because I thought that's what you meant when you responded to my question of whether there are subsidized companies that don't crowd out competition
@ElJefer You shouldn't have. I didn't suggest that they are. Your research didn't suggest that they are. The logical conclusion would be to assume the opposite of what you did.
The point was, no matter how much cheaper the alternative insurance may be (with subsidy or without), big private insurance companies will still remain highly profitable.
@ElJefer And no, they're service is OK, but far from the best. But since my priority was price, I chose them. Unlike the majority, who obviously don't see it my way.
They stuck to more expensive car insurance companies despite the existence of these really cheap ones. This is what will happen with health insurance as well. No one is suddenly going out of business just because there is a cheaper option.
@wildbloodydragon We were talking about companies subsidized by the government vs companies not subsidized by the government, but you used Access and Explorer vs Geico, etc. That would be non-subsidized vs non-subsidized, right? Do you have examples of subsidized vs non-subsidized?
@ElJefer I don't need to find any examples of that.
To the customer, the real difference between subsidized and non-subsidized is the price.
With the large difference in the price of major insurance companies versus these smaller ones, the smaller ones are effectively no different from subsidized companies to the customer.
The argument was that being subsidized allows these companies to be cheaper, therefore they will steal away the majority of private insurance customers.
Price difference was the concern.
Accept it or not, my counter puts that argument to rest, completely.
Saying that government subsidized health insurance is bad because taxpayers have to pay for it, is a completely separate, new argument, obviously. I can counter that one as well, if you wish.
@wildbloodydragon That wasn't the argument, perhaps I didn't specify. The argument was that lowering the price through government subsidization creates an unfair advantage when compared to companies that lower their prices using their own money.
@ElJefer Thanks for specifying that. And for the laugh, that's pretty hilarious. "Unfair advantage". lmao.
Look, you can visit free clinics, you can get birth control and plan B pills for free from planned parenthood (which are very costly), you can get free food through food stamps. Yet the majority still pays for this stuff on their own, even the poor.
It's not that difficult to set a maximum income requirement to use public option, just like financial aid. No one's going outta business.
Representing a health insurance company as being an innocent girl at a lemonade stand, are you serious?
I don't think that federal regulations are a good thing, but when we are faced with the alternative of giving free reign to billion dollar companies the choice is simple.deregulation will just ensure that special interest groups will remain in our political system. What would the founding fathers do? they would slap all of you for facilitating these companies to run our government.
GOVERNMENT is the problem with private insurance as it is today!!!!! The entire health industry needs to be completely deregulated. Take care of your body and get your medicines from the pharmacist on the competitive open market. Start a small savings account for typical medical needs and buy catastrophic injury/illness insurance. People want to eat shit and sit on their fat asses for 50 yrs and then complain about how expensive medical coverage is! It's expensive because you're likely to useit!
@RevivalV9001 I spent the last few years on Medicaid. And it was god awful. I have a skin condition known as eczema, and had a break out worse than any my doctor (26 year dermatologist) had ever seen.
He prescribed me a medicine that was rather expensive to treat it, because I couldn't walk, move, sit or anything.
Bureaucrats decided that I didn't need such a strong medicine and forced me to buy a weaker version. which took months to do the job. Months of pain.
pathetic. Most of those commenting here have done little but demonsrate how little they actually know about the public option. How can you have an opinion grounded on unfounded lies and mischaracterizations of the truth? We would have had great insurance for dirt cheap except for the moronic tools of corporations masking as teaparty organizers and their minions of ignorant followers, lemmings really. Lemmings, perfect, you want America to follow the rest of you off cliff stupid.
oh poor insurance companies! they cant charge ridicoulous prices and provide the shittiest coverage in the developed world. id be so sad if Blue Cross and lost money.
Well here's the thing. Insurance companies charge so much because they are already required to offer massive plans, taxed and regulated to the extreme and are barely making a profit.
Go look up how many there used to be compared to how many there are now. The govies have been raising the price and trying to pass their public monster for a while now. A lot of companies have died.
And another good one look at unregulated lasik, which is dropping in price compared to everything else.
thank you for informing me the way things really are. i was persuaded by the evil mainstream liberal media who hates my freedom. i know my corporate overlords want only the best for me. thats why they now get to control our elections. thanks supreme court.
@madmiguelh2o Now your being an extremist and you know it.
And the thing about corporations. If you don't like them you don't have to buy from them. The thing about a government is that you don't get the choice.
And finally, the corporations are just trying to sell you a good product. They've had a govt bungle it for them. They aren't evil. Government is trying to get more power, and that is evil.
Seriously, go study it before you make an ass of yourself.
No doubt a public option in insurance would inevitably extinguish all private institutions just as the emergence of public schools and universities doomed Harvard, Princeton, Rice...
An EXCELLENT video; easily understood and short and to the point.
However, it's too late. The MORONS that the liberal MORONS put in power just pushed Obama-care through this morning.
Hey, all you liberal fools, please don't come crying to me when they pull the plug on your mom because she's expendable. And, yes, you're smoking crack if you think that rationing of health care won't become reality.
that's not how it would have worked... the government doesn't want to make money, it wants to stop people from like dying and stuff... taxes are just funding to help everyone, it all comes back to you or it helps other people in the end

How can that be? The government is perfect in every way imaginable. They are doing wonderful things for this country by distributing the wealth and taking over major industries.
I have tried to tell people about what you just said but I always get an answer like what I put. People have their head in the sand and the sad thing is this kind of stuff is only reaching the people who look for it. Mainly the people who oppose health care take over.
OKAY, here's a personal story if that will help some of you glassy-eyed obamaites. My wife and I went to her home country of Brazil for dental work. In the US, we were quoted $5,500 for the work, but in Brazil, the dentist closed his office for us and did the work for $500. No GOV middleman...
oh that is a good story i have one okay so a priest a rabbi and a nun need a kidney transplant and the priest says to the rabbi you can have nun if you are in brasil but you can have one if you are in canada so the nun says that is okay with me because i am an insurance company and you have to pay me for any work you have done because i like money and now you have nun
This conveys well what happens when govt "competes" directly or subsidizes a private Corporation or non-for-profit against the private sector, tis no competition when we have to fight against our own money and the limitless regulatory advantage of "Govt".
this one is the best. video #1 is good too. I would like to see a "part II" to show the line getting longer and longer...and other visual effects on patients and doctors and tax payers. or just congressmen cutting in front of a long line while smoking cigars or something.
LOL! Very satirical, I have to type. To those that have some idea of awareness about this concern, lets do our best to show this cartoon to our friends and neighbors. If they do not care about what is this "public option" and as well not caring about this healthcare issue, they deserve every freedom they loose, every penny they loose, and all nominal health to be decimated.
If I have $10 million in the bank and the dollar loses half its value, that $5 million worth of buying power is STILL not NOTHING. But if I have $50 to buy food for my kids and now it's only worth $25 in buying power, that's SOMETHING.. devaluing currency is a tax that we all pay but it hits the worst of us. Running up expenses in congress is already taxing people, even without a big tax bill yet.
Let's see. A few years ago the IRS confiscated the Chicken Ranch in NV. According to the law a business confiscated by the government for income tax evasion must be run by the government. What happened next you ask? The Chicken Ranch went bankrupt under gov't management. If the gov't can bankrupt a house of prostitution that also sells whiskey, just what can they run?
I don't want the gov't involved in my health care!
Only thing I would have done differently would have been to somehow have the money being taken out of the people's back pockets to give to the public option stand. Still an excellent video, great work.
People often forget where such subsidies come from. Even the poorest 40% of "Tax Paying" Americans that don't actually pay in to the progressive income tax system get stuck with more taxes than they might think. (IE: Sales, Gas, Liquor, Property, Cigarette, etc...).
In fact, it's arguable that they pay a larger percentage of their income in taxes than rich people do in the form of higher priced goods & services (hidden taxes).
First of all, re-read what I wrote. I said a "higher percentage of their income". Meaning that between hidden taxes (cigarette, gas, liquor, sales, etc...) poor people pay just as high, if not a higher percentage of their actual income to taxes than rich people.
More than 1/3 of the price of a gallon of gasoline goes to hidden taxes. When gas was $4 per gallon, poor people were the hardest hit.
Second of all, where do you think rich people make their money? Oh ya, from selling consumer goods and services. The taxes that the rich pay are passed along to consumers in the form of higher priced goods. Taxes are a cost of doing business and businesses are not going to eat that cost.
It's funny because this isn't how it would work and the lemonade girl isn't condemning innocent people to death because of "pre-existing conditions" and other bullshit loop holes.
In fact that is how it already has worked for all government monopolies. try the Post Office and Amtrak. They have lost money every year since they operated, costing the taxpayers with higher prices and poor service.
They're condemning people to death because Medicare and Medicaid have made it cost ineffective for health care providers to offer charity care and caused health care costs to balloon out of control. The "public option" is also loaded with new taxes on the middle class. That's why Dennis Kucinisch voted against it. It's a bailout for the insurance companies.
I never said I agreed with the Bill. The Bill is awful and weak, and the public option in THIS BILL is horrible. The Public Option in principal is something I agree with.
@kklol7 Why? How can you support something that is a total interference in peoples lives?
There is no such thing as a free lunch - somebody has to float the bill. If you propose paying for YOUR free health care, with MY money that is nothing less than STEALING - even if it is done under the guise of 'government' or 'taxes'.
Any attempt at theft will be dissuaded using all necessary force.
You know what, why should my tax money go to help pay firefighters who put out fires in OTHER peoples houses? Why should my tax money go to help pay cops when they go after criminals who don't do anything to me? It's not fair for me to have to pay for THEIR protection.
LOL this is funny - The public option would have had to fund itself through permiums. In the end they would habe taken everyone who wanted it and let the people decide.

Tell your democrat representatives that if they don't put it in the bill you will not vote for them next time around.

this one is the best. video #1 is good too.

Poor people are hit worst by taxes of all kinds.

I second that.
Great video though... keep up the good work!
2DumbKidsVideo 2 years ago
Hardly. Poor people don't buy enough to even come close to offsetting the taxes of the upper income pay.
larrybud 2 years ago
First of all, re-read what I wrote. I said a "higher percentage of their income". Meaning that between hidden taxes (cigarette, gas, liquor, sales, etc...) poor people pay just as high, if not a higher percentage of their actual income to taxes than rich people.
More than 1/3 of the price of a gallon of gasoline goes to hidden taxes. When gas was $4 per gallon, poor people were the hardest hit.
2DumbKidsVideo 2 years ago
Second of all, where do you think rich people make their money? Oh ya, from selling consumer goods and services. The taxes that the rich pay are passed along to consumers in the form of higher priced goods. Taxes are a cost of doing business and businesses are not going to eat that cost.

It's funny because this isn't how it would work and the lemonade girl isn't condemning innocent people to death because of "pre-existing conditions" and other bullshit loop holes.
kklol7 2 years ago
In fact that is how it already has worked for all government monopolies. try the Post Office and Amtrak. They have lost money every year since they operated, costing the taxpayers with higher prices and poor service.
leafwatch 2 years ago
They're condemning people to death because Medicare and Medicaid have made it cost ineffective for health care providers to offer charity care and caused health care costs to balloon out of control. The "public option" is also loaded with new taxes on the middle class. That's why Dennis Kucinisch voted against it. It's a bailout for the insurance companies.

I never said I agreed with the Bill. The Bill is awful and weak, and the public option in THIS BILL is horrible. The Public Option in principal is something I agree with.
kklol7 2 years ago
@kklol7 Why? How can you support something that is a total interference in peoples lives?
There is no such thing as a free lunch - somebody has to float the bill. If you propose paying for YOUR free health care, with MY money that is nothing less than STEALING - even if it is done under the guise of 'government' or 'taxes'.
Any attempt at theft will be dissuaded using all necessary force.

Actually I have healthcare. I just care about other people's lives.
kklol7 2 years ago
You're more than free to give you money to other people. Just don't force others at the barrel of the gun to do it.
larrybud 2 years ago
Gee I guess you are right.
You know what, why should my tax money go to help pay firefighters who put out fires in OTHER peoples houses? Why should my tax money go to help pay cops when they go after criminals who don't do anything to me? It's not fair for me to have to pay for THEIR protection.

Locally run, municipal, constitutional programs have little to do with Federal, National, unconstitutional programs.
There is no comparison, other than stating that all medicine should be run by local government...(I am not stating that)

It shouldn't. Voluntary association is a basis of any progressive social order.
