Metallica will forever be might favorite band in history. I learned to play guitar because of these guys. Kirk Hammett is my inspiration on guitar. My girlfriend doesn't really listen to them but the other day she said she wanted to hear all their songs. So i made her all of their CDs up to Reload. Feels good to hear all those songs again. It still puzzles me has to how they were able to write soo many great songs. And to think of how many riffs they can come up with, that's crazy.

The death of Cliff was ultimately the death of Metallica. They still had some material over as a lot of Cliff's bass riffs were used as guitar riffs on justice. After that, Metallica were no more than a heavy rock band.

Hetfield in particular realized it would never be the same again. Burton taught them about harmonies and other musical theory and you can definitely hear it. It's all in Enter Night by Mick Wall. I started playing bass in the spring of '86. One of the first inspirations to me was Cliff, who I discovered almost immediately. Then he died that September and I was heartbroken. R.I.P. bud, your memory remains.

It just so happened that when they slowed down the tempo and made the chords deeper with more blues the pop appeal exploded. this showed that what non metal fans couldnt grasp translated on a broader level.

@thepspman116 Possibly. He talked about going in a direction similar to that which Metallica actually took. Probably would've been less filler on Load and ReLoad.

@thepspman116 yeah probably....but the mainstream hits would have a harder edge i believe. true musicians evolve. kirk and james are exceptional musicians, and cliff was a master musician. real talent gets bored of doing the same thing forever, they needed to change it up. It just so happened that when they slowed down the tempo and made the chords deeper with more blues the pop appeal exploded. this showed that what non metal fans couldnt grasp translated on a broader level.

@MetaITV i'm not sure about today,but sometime in the past when jason replaced cliff he used cliff's wah pedal and his Aria.His Rickenbacker was placed at the Rock and Roll hall of fame as an exhibition's item along with James' EET FUK guitar.
