But seriously though, if it wouldn't be fair to make Icelandic taxpayers pay for the problems their banks caused, then who would have to pay? Currently it's us, Dutch taxpayers, and that makes even less sense. It was just a matter of time before the whole Icelandic credit card culture would collapse, I mean a country where you buy a bus ticket or a beer with a CREDIT card (not debit, or cash) is bound to go bankrupt at one point or another.
