I'm not saying all Lebanese Christians have French background. But many of them do have. Both Christian and non-Christians in Lebanon have some French influence.

I loved Helen's comment about "What's a Jew?" She was hinting at the absurdity of ethnicity being granted to a religious persuasion. Imagine being a Christian or a Mormon, and suddenly it's a race/ethnicity. Absolutely ludicrous. She correctly points out that a Semite is someone who genetically originates from Mediterranean stock in the Middle East, and that modern Jews/Israelis are European in heritage. Perhaps there was a Jewish ethnicity a 1000 years ago, but not since the diaspora.
