  • Give it a rest, two faggots jumP oota blazing car and someone kicks his bawz..so wit, happens in every toon in Scotland every other night some loony get decked by a passer by..There no looking for a wee medal thats no even worth its weight in scrap value..Smeato was the face the world seen on tele so he singled oot, he got his 15mins off fame end of. There were a lot of people trying to help that day but i diNnae see them greetin furraa mention either.Old news move on.

  • And you're honestly saying if all the attention that Smeaton got was transferred to one of the other "heroes", that they would do any more than Smeaton did in that position?

  • OMFG i was raging about this , i just left another comment on a john smeaton vid before seeing this , too fucking right. i know very vaguely the man who was injured (Kerr)

and they ALL deserve fucking recognitiion for going beyond the call of their duties at the airport , more than smeaton, even if smeaton was the only one interviewed. sooooo glad someone feels the same way

  • who cares i bet none of the other civilians have catchphrases as good as ''we'll set aboot ye'' Stop trying to steal johns shine

  • The government are indeed the cynical opportunists here. Smeaton didn't push himself forward the media did. I feel sorry he's got such a lot of flack for what he did. Not-one forgot what the others did to help, it's the media and the politicians ignored them. Smeaton has always been at pains to mention the others at every opportunity. He's a lovely bloke and I bet he wishes he'd been ignored too.

  • smatos gettin on ma goat, and i agree everyone shouldve got the same recognition, but lets face it, me n ma 3 aunties could go to the airport with swinging handbags and cause more threat

  • its not his fault he never once said he done anymore than the others, its all the media n our useless goverment

  • Why wasn't Michael Kerr called to give evidence at the trial? If not being a witness at the trial makes Smeaton a liar, doesn't that make Kerr a liar too?

  • Michael Kerr was called to give evidence.

This video is not about calling anyone a liar - it's simply pointing out that the government did nto give proper consideration to the others.

  • Smeaton has always said the others involved should be equally honoured. If you got involved in something and the media got involved and you ended up a sort of overnight superstar, you are saying you would refute this and go back to your shitty life. Anyone in smeatos position would do the same.

  • One person I don't blame ffor this injustice is John Smeaton

  • When the guy was trying to set off the bomb in the back of the 4X4 the police were dousing him with water any other country would be shooting him dead

  • Comment removed

  • If John hadnt talked to the cameras, he nor any of the others would have ever got a mention.

  • Forgive me if i'm missing a bit of what occured, but the men were on fire and they'd just crawled out of a crushed, burning car right?

What the fuck were they in conditon to do apart from throw a few last desperate swings and why wouldent just kicking em in the balls and calling it a day have saficed?

  • Yes - you're missing quite a bit - in more ways than one I think

  • Has anyone written a lament to this tune?

  • "we dont need another hero,

we don't need to know the way home" - Tina Turner, god bless her soul

  • Two things that the Government would have liked.

    A) A Typical Scottish guy referring to Britian as a whole first before Scotland, '..the British people..'

    B) The concern and support that Smeaton showed for the police, 'i went to help a police officer...'

You know how anti-England some Scots can be, so you can see their point of using Smeaton as a pretty harmless role model.

  • And what of the events in London the night before?

The passers-by who spotted devices in cars outside the Tiger Club?

Haven't heard a single word about them.

Btw I'll be more than happy to sign the above petition .Something stinks about all this.

  • They didnt wrestle terrorists but they'll get a 10/10 for observation.

  • Hero or not, whatever.Hopefully all will be revealed by the cctv footage and at the trial.

  • Please note this video is about the George Cross Committee and the Government. I'm all for free speech but I will remove any "over the top" comments about John Smeaton - don't forget - he had nothing to do with the others being snubbed!

  • I don't agree that John Smeaton was not a hero BUT if he's a hero then the rest of the brave man and not forgetting the lady are also heros. In my eyes super-heros. I am glad that John Smeaton is supporting this campaign but can he and should he do more to gat the voices of the others heard??!! I would like to take this oppertunity to thank these brave people for what they did, its an honour to have fellow scots like you!I will continue to support this campaign until these HEROS are recognised!!

  • I agree with you - as the video points out the forgotten heroes tackled the terrorists and it was their actions tbat were decisive. Mary McCandlish also was very brave in her rescue attempts close to a burning jeep - which could have exploded.

Our outrage should be directed to the Government and Gordon Brown - he played into the "celebrity" card and in effect used John Smeaton.

  • Yes totally, Gordon Brown is a disgrace to our country for his utter dismissal of these people who potentially safed hundreds of lives. Keep supporting these heros please!!!

  • Well done and well said..this is a brilliant piece to illustrate the injustice the 3 men are left feeling. Either honour ALL the men or NONE at all. I still think Mr Smeaton SHOULD have veto'd his award to show solidarity, a feeling alot of people have in Scotland. I just hope that people will have their eyes open to the real truth about that day and that 4 gentlemen were involved not just this man the media have deemed a demi god.

  • margiepantaloons, It wasn't just 4 gentlemmen , infact the was 1 lady also involved MARY MCCANDLISH who john smeaton "ACTUALLY ASSISTED HER" in pulling one of the heros away from the burning jeep.... we all seem to forget there was infact a lady who was there helping that nfact john smeaton is not a hero he is just a man with a big mouth and the rest are not.....

  • I agree it should be recognised that Mary McCandlish put herself in danger to help Michael Kerr.

I don't agree that John Smeaton is "not a hero" - it's the fact the Government has singled him out that is causing resentment.

  • Couldn't agree with this post MORE! It's beyond a joke that the brave people who put their lives at risk without hesitation are left without recognition and above all thanks from those who are deemed to be "leaders" of this country. How about they have a look at the post and see how they feel after viewing it!!!

  • even more so now after viewing video...we must get medals 4 all..video was class..

  • im also really sorry to say this but i also think although john smeaton was a brave man just as brave as the other people there that day.I have not heard him come out and metion the names of you guys.I think he should have spoke up for you more and i think it would be a nice if he showed his support for your campaign.

  • You must have missed it - John Smeaton HAS been on television and newspapers lending support to campaign.

  • that John Smeaton just pisses me of so much. He SHOULD GIVE HIS MEDAL BACK he does not deserve it the real heros are going unnoticed.

  • well said...i still think he should have veto'd his award in support of the men who have yet failed to be awarded.

  • I agree with "missamyspencer"all four should be honoured in the same way but in my opinion what John said afterwards was what got him noticed he was then made out to be more of a hero than the others because the people would remember his words

  • Spot on.

  • Thanks - that was a wee epic. I'll be back to posting stuff from the BBC shortly!

  • I've read the whole thing on internet, and I agree with you.

  • Thanks for taking the time pennycarrol.

Britain is a country obsessed with celebrity - the Government should have a higher moral stance - instead the take advantage of celebrity for political purposes.

  • I've read the whole thing on internet, and I agree with you.

  • I hope there is no negativity of John Smeaton on the back of this as it's not his fault he's getting all the credit. All four should be honoured in the same way. They're all heroes and Scotland is very proud of each them.

  • I agree with you.

My main purpose is to highlight how the Government focused on the celebrity and ignored the others. It was the Government who divided one from the other - so John Smeaton should not be blamed!

  • Don't see why only John Smeaton was honoured. C'mon Gordon, sort this out!

  • I don't know exactly what happened there, but thanks anyway for this video, I'll try to read on internet what has happened.
