Pat Metheny has been my favorite jazz artist for a couple of decades now. Imaginary Day his his most rock fusion album, IMO. His music has become part of my nervous system... in a most excellent way. Saw him perform Orchestrion when he was in San Diego in April 2010. A true tour de force.
I saw pat here in milwaukee on the quartet tour with brad meldau and it was the best show i've ever seen live. I was able to meet pat as they boarded the tour coach and the guy is totaly real and down to earth. he signed my ticket and my t shirt i bought which both are of course preserved in a glass display. Also, i was finaly able to find a gr300 on ebay last year, but still looking for the controller, but has a graphtech system in my custom that accepts the 24pin cord.
@NOTEWORKERnm1 i met him also, but he dont want that people touch him in the photo, i dont like his attitude, hes a good musician, but , alittle stupid also
After watching this, I can't help but wonder where somebody like Eddie Van Halen could pass himself off as an excellent or even decent guitar player. There is no contest. Pat Metheny is as fast picking as Eddie is doing his repetitive riffs, and much, much more pleasant to listen to.
Moreover, the entire group in this video has more cohesion and musicality than Van Halen (the group) ever had, even for a single song. Why does the public or the industry put up with that misleading crap?
Agreed. Though I wish that somebody would create exact copies of Pat Metheny's songs, but in metal format. Or better yet, Pat Metheny doing it himself.
If Pat were to play metal, Eddie Van Halen would be gone.
The acoustic guitar that he's playing at the beginning is his sitar guitar. It's a custom acoustic guitar that's designed somehow to sound like a sitar. The solo is played on his Roland GR-300 guitar synthesizer with a Greco/Roland guitar controller, which he also uses just as a guitar for some parts.

The Muscianship on display here is incredible; especially by that fact that with the exception of Rodby and Mays, he changes other personnel often.

It's just amazing how much greater of a musician Pat is than most guitar players. His phrasing, in particular.

I love Pat's sitar guitar. There's nothing else that sounds like it. Amazing instrument.

i did not get it. Where does his guitar sound like a guitar ? first part is "normal" acoustic sound, the solo is with a brass like effect

sorry, i wanted to ask "Where does his guitar sound like a Sitar "
