  • Thanks for the video....just curious with the following question: How high up on your wall is the water pipe used to exit used water from your LG WM3987HW?? Saw another "you tube" video advising if the water outlet pipe is too high, the water has trouble exiting the water hose and machine causing the clothes remain damp even after the dryer cycle? Please state the number of inches from floor to location on wall for the exit water pipe. Really would appreciate your advice. Thanks kindly.

  • Con't.

Quick fix: While machine is still on (no need to pause it) go to the drain filter area and drain the hose or readjust the drain hose on back the machine if needed. Doing one or both will kick the machine back to normal. ; )

    Oh and nice video btw.

  • Hi,

I also have a LG not a combo but regular washer. I'm wondering if you really needed the service call. With mine only a couple times did the machine not drain, only b/c the load was too bulky or off-balance (I put in two big pillows along w/ a down comforter) so the machine would sporatically turn but wouldn't count down on time. Another culprit could be the drain hose is higher than the recommended level than what's suggested in the manual.

  • @susieq560 Actually, yeah. There was a burned out circuit in the motherboard. Though I'm definitely looking into this drain hose situation. That sounds promising.

  • I believe that your machine has the "Energy star" logo. I find that humorous considering it takes four hours to wash and dry, when a conventional washer dryer set takes an hour and twenty minutes. If your happy with it, that's all that counts.

  • @1967Chrisjones Well, let's not put a ton of stock in the whole "Energy Star" thing. While it's a nice to have, our focus with this machine was the amount of space we were going to gain back by losing a machine in the room and the convenience of being able to wash clothes all the way through the dry cycle during the week while we're at work.

  • @finnyknits It is cool that it washes and dries as well, and if it makes life easier, kudos. Cheers!

  • @1967Chrisjones

This machine actually generates electricity and only runs on 12amps. Less than your hair dryer~

To prove my statement, unplug the machine open the door and spin the drum by hand(as fast as you can).

I've had this machine since 2006 and have not seen any spikes on my electric bill.

    Makes me smile =)

  • Hahahah im cracking up your presentation was awsome me and my bf are going to look for this washer even though it is over two years old. We have a basement door and stairs that can't take a regular washer and have a portable washer and dryer in the kitchen. This makes it so that we can buy this one and only have one thank you very much.

  • @kenjetsu1981 I don't think this exact model is still available, but they have others that are just new models of the same concept (and probably have some added features and improvements over my model).

  • @finnyknits For whatever reason, YouTube isn't allowing me to reply with a link, but there's another LG model (LG WM3987HW) that looks like it's the newest version of my model. Hope that helps.

  • @kenjetsu1981 It looks like they have a newer model (LG WM3987HW) that's actually less expensive than ours was (though not by much - it's still $1,600). I haven't tried it (obviously), *but if LG sends me one*, I'll be happy to review it and post a new video ;)

Meanwhile, might be a good one to check out. And then you can have your kitchen back! That'll be rad, I suspect.

  • you are very funny

  • good review and i wanna do you.

  • Hey I was wondering if you know how to run only a dry cycle? i can't figure it out...

  • @litasjo No worries - just hit the play button on the machine and then immediately hit the dry button (last one on the right). It'll let you choose what time or setting to dry your clothes on and, if you want, you can choose either No Spin, High Spin or whatever the super high Rattle The Walls spin setting is above that. I wish it were called Extreme Spin, but I'm not sure that's it. Once that's set, hit play again and it'll ONLY dry the clothes. Enjoy.

  • Your Hot, You Got A Husband ?

  • @iDontUploadiJustSub Sure do.

  • @iDontUploadiJustSub Sure do.

  • Damn, didnt see anything to ignor ;)

Awesome machine once set right... mine bounced all over the place on the final spin cycle only to find what seemed to be set dead flat, wasnt quite... i fine tuned 1 adjustable foot while it was spinning... no issues since! (touch wood)

    Nice video, thanks for posting.

  • I LOVED YOUR VIDEO! I like how direct, straightforward you are. I'm sick and tired of people sugar coating reviews, so it's refreshing to see something totally different. I laughed so hard when you said you're retarded LOL It's great when people make some fun about themselves :) Keep this wonderful attitude rolling and please make more reviews if you can!

  • Great video. Very Comprehensive. Thank you from all of us who appreciate it.

  • 4 minutes wash/dry, I'd be sold - so "Jetsons" but 4 hours? No way!

  • 4 minutes wash/dry, I'd be sold - so "Jetsons" but 4 hours? No way!

  • THANKS! I'm glad to hear someone who isn't carping about "forever" drying, or low-quality washing on a combo! Really appreciate your observations!

  • I've been on the fence about getting one of these. I know this model is discontinued, but I think I will get one of the newer models. Thanks for the video.

  • FRIGIDAIR ELECTRIC LAUNDRY CENTER MODEL # LCE756AWW NEED BELT PARTS AND HOT/COLD WATER SUPPLY

  • Thanks so much for this review. I have been looking for a combo unit for a long time, but most not as well thought of as this LG. Very excited to get one. I have seen prices edging down to about 1300 online, including shipping, for those are are thinking of purchasing.

  • this this washer.dyer still work well?

  • @HAPPYSINGHNYC Yep! Two years and it still works beautifully.

  • @finnyknits thank you very much miss for your feedback =)

  • great video. I don't see why anyone would want two machines, if they could have one that does everything.

  • I got one from Home Depot and it has MOLD around the rubber rim., Home Deport didn't tell me. I called the 1800 number and they could not help me. I have been told this MOLD is bad for my children. But LG and Home Depot don't care. It's all about the money. Profit...Profit. Where do they make these machines? Japan or China?

  • I got one a year ago, I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!, I do not know why here is the US they are not common, . the technology is very common in europe and they have been around for more that 30 years. even with a big laundry roon it is worth having one, they cost just a bit more than a regular high end stand alone washer

  • This video made my day, I want to buy one now

  • this was discontinued and is being revamped without steam

  • Hello ... thanks for the demonstration. I think I will probably get one.

I was reading, however, that about twice a month you have to empty the water that it collects from drying clothes and you have to remove the lint from somewhere.

Do you know anything about this?

  • I haven't had to empty any water collection aside from the little bit that's left in the detergent cup (as I show in the video). As far as lint goes, I just sweep it out of the rubber gasket around the door when I put clothes in (if I see that there's any) and forget about it. It's not even as gross as the lint trap in standard dryers.

    Enjoy :)

  • @finnyknits I have the same machine and I don't like it at all. The machine is noisy and when is spining the whole apartment vibrates, its like a helicopter hoovering inside the room. My washer is perfectly leveled, just this machine is designed to be instaled in the basement or garage on rigid floors. I just hate it and I'm going to sell it even at big loss

  • @mittko Wow - what a bummer! We have ours

in our laundry room, which is a ground floor

room above a basement and do hear *some*

spinning noise from time to time, but overall

have found it to be really quiet. Especially compared

to our old standard washer/dryer. I usually

keep the spin speed around Medium, though I assume

you've tried that to remedy the problem?

  • @mittko I put mine on extra high spin and I can hardly hear it. I brought vibration pads with the machine.

  • Thanks for the video.. I loved it.. :) RAD.

  • Thanks for this great demonstration!!!!! NOW MY PROBLEM IS THAT I CANT FIND ONE!!! EVERY SITE IVE VISITED SAYS IT IS DISCONTINUED OR OUT OF STOCK!!! Do you know where I could buy one?????

    Thanks.

  • @noela683

Try calling Home Depot to special order one. That's what I had to do, back in the day, because they didn't keep them in stock. Good luck!

  • Thanks for the vid!!! we're in an Apt and I HATE using the laundty center (hauling the clothes up and down the steps) anyway!! THis helps a lot!!

  • and yes a mercedes is a thing, a weak and crappy thing thats expencive for nothing at that...

  • LUVED THE VID!! and u r awsome and funny lol.... one thing u forgot to mention though... the price! how much will this baby run me for?

  • When we got ours (Dec '08) it was around $1900, but I see them now (do a Google search for "LG SteamWasher Dryer WM3988HWA" and click "Shopping") from $1599.

They're not cheap, but I will say that we've not had any issues with it and it has been an excellent replacement for our old side-by-side washer/dryer. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

  • thanks for the video

  • Ok, I'm not sure where this comment section got off the subject of this washer dryer combo. Although, youtube comments always do. I just wanted to say thank you for doing this demo. I suspected that the problems people were having were related their inability to operate it correctly. Simply do to the WIDE range of reviews. Also, we're Finny's too!

  • Yeah, YT comments can run the gamut, that's for sure. But the message I wanted to convey with this video was that, for me - a very picky consumer with a very picky consumer household - this machine did everything it promised and more. And I wanted to make sure that if there were people out there who were on the fence about buying one because they'd heard it "didn't dry clothes", that they knew it, indeed, DID dry clothes if used with the proper settings.

So, glad you found it helpful.

  • You have washing machines,... and you have miele... that's the difference....

  • You're a douchebag. Finny isn't. Huge difference. Rolls Royces are for overspending pompous eurotrash assholes, Deutschbag.

  • I'm not German. I'm Dutch. ....Rolls Royces are not for overspending pompous assholes. Rolls Royces are cars for people with a great taste for quality. And, the most R.R. buyers are living in the u.s... Miele is the best washing machine in the world. That's not an opinion, that's a fact...

  • Para is right, and i'm not a douche bag, paranormal either.

  • Sure you both are. You just didn't know it. Doesn't matter where you're from, you're both elitist douchebags. Who else would fawn over such a stupid thing as a household appliance?

    Douchebags only.

  • HEY! Thanks a lot of the review! Do you think that 4.5 hours is a long time to wash 3 pairs of jeans, 1 skirt, 1 pair of yoga pants and a weeks worth of underwear? Could you have put more laundry in?

Either way, I'm probably going to buy this machine based on your review.

  • Well, it does seem a bit intense but depending on the dryer settings (using the MORE dry feature takes longer, but guarantees everything will be hot and dry) it might take that long.

After a year of owning this thing, I still love it. We now run loads all week with minimal disturbance to our lives.

Anyway, you may find the longer cycles become less of an issue when the convenience of not having to move clothes around is apparent.

  • Thank you for the helpful review.

  • You are cute as a button. Funny girl: turn-on. I have a Eurotech which does not work very well; considering upgrading. Thanks for the great review, you sexy B....

  • I hope the upgrade treats you well. Enjoy! And don't forget - big loads need "more dry". :)

  • Ofcourse: no song. I have a Miele.... It don't need such a stupid computerizes cheap melodie....

They are expensive in use. I have calculated that one washing turn and one dry program cost you 4 euro's a time.. tha's 6 dollars.

    Very expensive.

My Miele washing machine cost me 25 cents a full program and my dryer 1,50 euro a program...

  • Hmmm...I didn't see Miele on the market here - must be a Euro thing we rubes in the US don't have yet.

    Maybe next time...

  • MIELE A EURO THING? MIELE IS WORLD FAMOUS. They make the best of the best of the best of the best appliances..... . . . the rolls royce of the washing machine it is..... there is no better product...................... in the whole wide world........... And that is scientificly tested!

  • Indeed Ratje You are right. "Deutsche Grundlichkeit" it is. The very best, of the best. 10.000 hours without service they have..... other machines 3000 to 4500 hours.... you don't hear them, the don't use cheap plastic, like this garbage machines.....

And... they are much more expensive.... than good machines.....

A miele uses 40 liters of water... those machines the fourfold or more......

Not nice for our enviroment, and the water-crisis we have world wide.

  • Kay.

What I said was that "I didn't see Miele on the market here" - which is true.

Whether they're known the world over is not what I was addressing.

    Relax.

  • Euro 'thing' ?????

Do you call a mercedes also a 'thing'?

It's also german. They make the best machines in the world!

I have a Miele. you can see it on my youtube site.

  • Why, yes, I do call a Mercedes a "thing". Because it is a "thing", by definition.

The Miele is a "thing", incidentally, that we don't have widely available in the US to the point where it was not included in my search for a new washer/dryer.

Which was likely because it is some "thing" more readily available in Europe. Because some "things" are not available at the same rate the world over.

At ease, man - go have a cocktail with your friggen Miele and we'll all love our machines equally.

  • you don't compare a rolls royce with a volkswagen.... that's the same thing.... has nothing to do with chill out.... has to do with reality..... I can't stand those plastic things... Awfull .... ieeeeeeeeeeeeks.

  • ROFL best advertising ever. I am totally buying one of these to replace my POS Equator EZ-3600C derelict that's been sitting dead in my apartment for the last 5 years.

  • I will say - a year after buying this thing we're sold on it more than ever.

A year without fighting over WHO LEFT THEIR EFFIN' CLOTHES IN THE WASHER ALL WEEK without moving them to the dryer makes this beast worth its weight in gold.

And, hey, it also gets the clothes clean and dry, so yay on that.

Don't forget the "Delay" feature - make sure your clothes are freshly dry when you get home from work :)

  • para is right!

  • Myworld691 - Try using the Steamfresh setting to remove wrinkles or remove the clothes as soon as they're dry and shake them out.

thibaulthalpern- I just use whatever setting it defaults to for the mode I choose (cotton/high, etc). Seems to work fine.

I find that for a busy couple, this machine is ideal.

cirquedude123- I haven't washed a comforter in it, but for a full set of sheets and towels, it works like a charm. Everything comes out super clean, fresh and dry.

  • How well does it work on comforters and that sorta stuff?

  • You know, I've never washed a comforter in it (we only have down comforters which aren't machine washable), but it does loads of linens (4 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 2 wash cloths, 1 bathmat, 1 set of queen sheets) without balking. Just use the bulky setting and make sure to use "more dry".

  • Front loading machines typically wash much better and is much more efficient than top loading machines.

The only problem with the washer and dryer combo is if you needed to do more than one load of wash. In that case, you're stuck until the first load finishes dring...in about 4 hours! That could be a problem for a family of four. For a family of two or single person, washer/dryer combo like yours works fine.

  • That is a good point to make - we use this in a household of two+ a large dog (she gets toweled off after rainy walks, trips to the beach, etc so adds a bit to the wash) and it works well. We also only use cloth napkins and the like, so there's a bit of add on there, but might be a different scenario for a household of four. Though the adjustment to working through one load at a time might still be possible.

  • You should care about the speed. Put it on "extra high". The higher the tub spins, the more water is extracted during the final spin cycle. The only time you don't want to use "extra high" is for very delicate clothing like sweaters. Spinning to fast when washing sweaters will disfigure the sweater. So, you should care about the speed if you want the drying portion of the laundry to be quicker.

  • I let the machine use the default setting for speed based on the dial setting I choose. So far, that's worked fine.

  • i don't like this washer because the clothes come out wrinkled

  • I've found that I can mitigate wrinkles using one or all of the following strategies: running smaller loads, using fabric softener, using the "more dry" feature, removing the clothes soon after the machine finishes and/or running the Steamfresh cycle.

  • It does take, usually, a full 4 hours to do a full cycle. However, I always use the "more" dry cycle, which clearly adds "more" time. However, it calculates how long your load will take to wash/dry when you load the machine, based on weight and settings, so it's possible that your wash would be less than mine since I really shove it full.

But, yes, it does take longer than a standard dryer, likely because it uses super heated steam to dry your clothes rather than just hot air.

  • Why does it take so long for it to dry a load of clothes though? If it's 4 hrs total, that's 2 hrs wash and 2 hrs dry. My dryer usually dried in 45 minutes on a full load. It is cool that it's all one unit though.

  • It takes long to dry because it uses a non-vented drying system, so if you have a unit that was not originally designed to accommodate a washer/dryer, you can install this unit anywhere you have a water supply and drain.

  • That's right. Jmkao has it correct. How this type of dryer works is by condensing the moisture and thus making the moisture form into water and then draining it. That takes a lot longer than a conventional dryer which uses heat air but requires a vented duct.

  • well done review. i've been wanting my own machines. this is definitely in consideration. thanks to you!

  • Come back and let us all know if you got one and how you like it :)

  • Thank you for making this video! I have been looking into buying one of these but all the mixed reviews I have read have made me worry. I definitely want to get one now, but I havent found a single store that sells it! Anyway, Thanks again - and you're funny too

  • I ordered ours from Home Depot. They don't keep them in stock, so you have to order them regardless. Since I ordered during a sale (around the holidays) we got free shipping and 10% off. Which is good, given that these things are not free ;) Enjoy!

  • I am glad that your machines is good but it is not the same model as mine, I think the poeple who complain have the same model as mine, and not, mine doesn't sing a song. I have the model WM3431H
