The USA version was the combination of 2 separate types of transforming robots so Hasbro could sell more toys. In Japan the Autobots and Decepticons were both good guys, not called by those names, and had nothing to do with one another.

RiD Ultra Magnus was his own guy too, and that was before Animated, he combined with Optimus to form Omega Prime, unless you go by the Japanese version, where his name's GOD Magnus, and he combines with Fire Convoy to form GOD FIRE CONVOY.

When i was kid and watched hte cartoons, i did not release utramagnus was just some sort of 'add on' for a white optimus prime. It' seems kind of unneeded that there's a white optmus inside, if he's totally covered by the ultra magnus add on. O well..lol. In the movie they made optimus white in that last episode. I wonder if this has anything to do with this version?

Diaclone were piloted mecha in the original toyline. When Hasbro brought the line over, along with Microchange, they became self-aware AI from another planet. It all got back-imported (not quite export, as the backstory was American) and replaced the original toylines. The US show went along with it, and was continued with all-new anime stories after the third season, with a different HeadMaster origin.

In the early animated movie screen tests, ultra magnus WAS this color. For some reason changed in the final version. These existed BEFORE hasbro purchased the mold, and probably changed the color for legal reasons. There is also a yellow magnus out there.
