  • that place is too pretty and dainty. makes me wants to run through with a sledgehammer and smash the fuck out of everything.

  • she took an arrow to the knee

    1:09

and no this joke is not overused by any means.

  • This is very good if you have a cold.

Aah I need an hot spring XD

  • Japanese onsen are amazing. They're especially great in the winter, in the mountains where whole villages are built around them.

As for the modesty thing, "when in rome...". You really don't even care about it because it's not a big deal. They're surprised at seeing a foreigner rather than seeing a naked man.

  • "The good old days of the samurai" "When people were so friendly" OMG what a twisted western idea of Japanese history. The Japanese lived in one of the harshest cultures in the world when there were only the powerful, and the poor. In the good old days, you would've been killed for being a foreigner, and if you were Japanese, you'd probably spend all day and night farming.

  • @ChristopherJacques Yeah, I agree. I was surprised she said that... o_o

  • i suddenly feel the urge to watch japanese porn.... hmmm xD

  • At 5:18 there is a little caption at the lower right hand corner that says "The Towel is Prohibited". So confirming that the towel is just for the modesty of the tv host for the show. Let's not have fat hope that it applies to us just because we're foreigners though I was hoping a lot that it would.

  • @tiggerlandmio

Guys, considering that everybody is naked in the onsen, it's not a big deal. Men and women are separated. And nobody looks at your junk, believe me. After you visit the onsen once, you'll get used to being nude. When you get into the water, you put the towel on your head. You use it to wipe the sweat off your face.

  • almost having a BONER here .

  • 統計見るとこの動画

    世界中の人が見てるんだね~凄い。

    なんだか世界が平和になれそうな気がしてきた

  • 1:13 fart bubble

  • She didn't need to put in so much extra effort for her viewers. As for me, I'd be perfectly ok, if she entered the onsen without a towel.

  • @irgendwerjoker It's an onsen etiquette when you go into the onsen to cover yourself with a towel.... it execludes young children BUT it's very frowned up when you stark naked... especially traditional ryokans have a very strict rule about modesty.

  • @sxystar41 that simply not true. Usually there is only a very small towel to be used as a wash cloth in the shower area. It may not come in touch with the onsen water. In a traditional ryokan, you'd never enter the rotenburo (the bath) covered in a towel.

  • @sxystar41

I don't know where you heard about that, but the dozens of Japanese geezers that came to the onsen while I was there certainly didn't care about covering their private parts...

  • @sxystar41 I think you need to clarify what you meant about "go into". You don't mean actually in the water, right? Sure you don't walk around the halls naked, but you most certainly go into the water naked. It's onsen etiquette to enter the water naked, and set your small towel aside, or around your neck or on your head.

Maybe your strict rule about modesty is enforced in foreigner frequented onsen, but this is not the norm.

  • i have a nice hot spring at my house wanna come??

  • I had the experience of being in a private hot springs bath with a woman, but it was in Taiwan. Most of all it is not the same as Japanese outdoor private onsens. But the Japanese private onsesns are too goddamned expensive. So what did I do? Go to a konyoku onsen where I bathed naked with women being in there too.

  • see now that place is what I like mostly about Japan not all this high tech stuff

  • on 1:13 i think she farted because the water bubble near her but.

  • why don't remove your towel?

  • 本当はタオル巻いて湯船に浸かっちゃダメだよ

  • do i have to take off my towel? what if i'm not comfortable being naked with other women? lol

  • @ILUVFFANDKH 1) Don't go to an onsen (because it is prohibited to immerse the towel in the water). OR 2) Scare yourself. :)

Everyone there is so comfortable with nudity that no-one would notice you or they would certainly not demonstrate if they do.

  • @NovaScotiaChick No, I want to go to an Onsen, i'm not comfortable with being naked, don't care what other people are comfortable with. There should be places were you can be alone.

  • @ILUVFFANDKH I have seen lone places, but really, nudity is great for self esteem and self image, and releases class distinction.

Its so freeing, if you allow yourself to let it go, fight past the nervousness, you wont regret it.

It really is a loss not to experience the freedom, and the onsen is a great place. I am sure you can find one at the right time when nobody is there, and I believe they do have reserved onsens though, probably more expensive.

  • @ILUVFFANDKH - As a general rule the Japanese enjoy communal activities more than most other cultures and bathing is no exception. If you are uncomfortable in a mixed spa you will be able to find a private hot spa at a hotel (ryokan or minshuku) for you to enjoy a similar experience without others around. However as said already mixed bathing & nudity is a very good way to feel free. Hey you only live once.

  • @BelloBudo007 Yea you only live once, but I don't think being naked in front of people is really something I'll cry over lol,,Thank you for letting me know about the private spas :)

  • Did she say " the good old days of samurai "? Those days often weren't too good for the majority of people, as the daimo made sure the peasants were kept poor. Funny how we tend to think that IF we went back in time we'd arrive wealthy. :(

  • @BelloBudo007 I am sure she doesnt mean good as in wealth, but there was more to life than wealth. I assume she meant the simple life, which can be less stressful depending on how you prefer to live.

For me, I am minimalist, I love the simple life and would have fit well there.

Japan still did very well during that time, but I guess its like one country is more free than the other depending on what your looking for.

  • @waltermh111 - As a minimalist you may have fitted in well. However most people were so poor that they were minimalists by circumstance rather than by choice. Those in charge were constantly taxing people to pay for their armies, castles and such things. So if you're into a minimalist way of living without freedom and didn't mind paying excessive taxes then Japan of years gone by may have been for you. I have many Japanese friends and none of them wish to return to 'the good old days'.

  • @BelloBudo007 I doubt that any of them remember the good old days, but really I would survive in any situation, not that japan is unusual compared to other places of those times in regards to the stuff you mention. But the stress of today sometimes doesnt feel better :/

I can understand people looking back on the more simple times whatever their bad side.

    Everything is a trade off.

  • Why can't u were a towel in the baths?

  • yay! i've decided where i wanna go for winter!

  • The water is murky green because it contains many kind of minerals. Kusatu is known for its surfur springs. It is depend on onsen, but some onsen drain out the water It's once used.

  • please come on japan,everyone:)

  • Does anyone know how to say in Japanese "no swimming costume required"?

Not in Japanese characters, but phonetically, such as Oyasuminasai.

    Arigato gozaimashite! :)

  • @NovaScotiaChick

No swimming costume required in japanese phonetically may be " mizugi ha irimasen"

But most japanease onsen is prohibited swimming costume or even bath towel.

we say it " mizugi ha kinshi desu"

  • @picopicotantan Ah thank you so much for you reply!

Would this be visible on signs somewhere before you go into the onsen or is this generally known? And if so, what does it say on the signs?

I am writing a story which features this and want to do the correct thing :)

  • @NovaScotiaChick

    You're welcome,.

I have never seen before on signs says about Mizugi, because it's generally known for Japanese like you said...But I saw once " Don't soak towel into the onsen" or " Please wash your body before entering in to the bath" something like that,,

    Good luck for your work!!

  • Oh well, another thing for the bucket list :)

  • i want a hot spring!! it looks so relaxing :)

  • I would love to go to the Hot Springs where the monkeys are

  • @Jojeeh because its natural water and has not been cleaned out like all western water has

  • ohh..i miss japan...
