The Nitrogen slowed down the air molecules to the point where it wasn't generating enough outward force to prevent the rubber's elastic potential energy from collapsing the balloon.
What? We're the most scientifically advanced country in existence. The fuck are you doing on this American website typing on your American computer about America not being scientific?
Oh, and contrary to the comment below, PV=NRT isn't sufficient to explain this (77K/300K is only 1/3 or so, and the balloon deflates a lot more than that). The air in the balloon actually liquefies and then boils.
Using high-quality balloons keeps the lossage due to brittle rubber breaking to a minimum.
I once filled someone's entire room with balloons (7 gross worth) by packing them in 3 beer coolers full of liquid nitrogen, hauling them up to the room, and dumping them out to auto-reinflate.
Uh, one warning with doing this... cold stuff condenses water out of the air, so make sure there's nothing that can be damaged by water sitting on the floor.

Why is this on reddit? It's neither interesting nor surprising. The nitrogen cools the air in the balloon and the thing shrinks... boring. Reddit just keeps getting lamer.
That's a weird looking condom

the liquid natrogen is so cold that when the oxygen and nitrogen inside the baloon get that cold to they turn to liquid air.

the liquid nitrogen sucked the heat off of the ballon, making the gas inside the balloon shrink big time. It is just amazing though.

ive seen it in person before its really cool. i also had crackers dipped in liquid nitrogen lol

wow that sweet wonder were the air went? when it was in the nitrogen
tokopopo15 3 years ago
It shrunk because it got cold... The air is still in the ballon. If he would warm up the baloon again it would grow back to its original size!
Moeclone 3 years ago
This person speaks the truth...
Before I clicked and watched the vid, I expected the balloon to shrink...since air contracts in cold conditions....

take a magic marker to write something on it, or make an animal balloon first but only show it from the ending part where it comes back

Because anything that can excite the masses and get them interested in science is most definitely worth it.
