I was born and raised in Austin. Sarah Jaffe is in the mold of a lot of great Texas liberal musicians; Stevie Ray Vaughan, Patty Griffin, Lyle Lovett, Alejandro Escovedo, The Toadies. You have to be able to look deeper than superficial elements of their sound. If you do, you can hear the Texas in their music. If I meet someone, I can usually tell if they're from here.

I've read a lot of interpretations of this song's lyrics. I don't know if this is the correct interpretation but my favourite (that I've encountered thus far) is that Clementine is the girl who someone ran off with and the singer wants to be Clementine. I know it's nobody's business but the songwriter's but I would LOVE to hear Sarah explaining the meaning. Awesome song no matter if we completely understand the lyrics or not!
