@mistaspot1 nah. it's her knowing she's good....and acting like it. she shoudl take a page from Brad Delp...nicest guy in rock n roll. you can be nice and still be talented. all i'm sayin....
@mistaspot1 It's like redneckish, old school. Women have pink collar jobs, or wear too much makeup, have a Texas accent. Think the death penalty is right, believe in religion and if they dont they're minority. I hate that kind of Texas.
@mistaspot1 Stereotypes! Ahaha that's hilarious! You think because I have "English" in my name I'm from England? No, I've lived in Denton, Harlingen, Electra, Corpus Christi, Wichita Falls, born in Lubbock. I was just speaking of my experience. I'm sure there's great things in cities like Austin where my bf's from, but I just haven't seen them. I feel there's always pressure to follow a "Texas standard" if you know what I mean, especially when I see a cowboy. Just my take.
@superflyenglishvegan I don't think it's unreasonable to assume you're English by your name. Just sayin'.
I was born and raised in Austin. Sarah Jaffe is in the mold of a lot of great Texas liberal musicians; Stevie Ray Vaughan, Patty Griffin, Lyle Lovett, Alejandro Escovedo, The Toadies. You have to be able to look deeper than superficial elements of their sound. If you do, you can hear the Texas in their music. If I meet someone, I can usually tell if they're from here.
@superflyenglishvegan That's a stereotype of Texas. Do you know that real people come from Texas? People like Sarah Jaffe? Asian people, black people... all kinds of people. There are more people living in Texas than in Australia; most in a major metropolis or suburb (hence, her album name, "Suburban Nature").
Texas has a rich musical history. Ever hear of South by Southwest?
Please try not to think in terms of stereotypes. I don't assume you travel by umbrella, dude.
Haven't been interested in a new artist in a long time. Hope she makes it. She has been getting tons of airtime in Austin. Hoping to catch the July show. Love her voice.
theres this moment at like 1:00 where the pink tights girl throws in a little harmony and the guitar player looks over at her like "what the hell are you doing?"
50 states 50 lines 50 crying all the time's 50 boys 50 lies 50 i'm gonna change my mind's i changed my mind i changed my mind now i'm feeling different we were young we were young we were young we didn't care is it gone is it gone is it floating in the air? i changed my mind i changed my mind now i'm feeling different all that time, wasted i wish i was a little more delicate i wish my i wish my i wish my i wish my i wish my name was clementine
I've read a lot of interpretations of this song's lyrics. I don't know if this is the correct interpretation but my favourite (that I've encountered thus far) is that Clementine is the girl who someone ran off with and the singer wants to be Clementine. I know it's nobody's business but the songwriter's but I would LOVE to hear Sarah explaining the meaning. Awesome song no matter if we completely understand the lyrics or not!
I wish she showed a little of the emotion that is behind her music... I love her music, and I think she has a lot of talent, but she seems a little "removed" in her performances.
I have listened to music all my life and this woman has something that i have rarely heard. her music touches the very depths of the soul. there is a sadness yet it is uplifting at the same time. this is real music. you cant find this on everyday radio because its real. its art and life .
Almost half way through the year, and still my favourite singer-songwriter recording of the year. A small, mostly meaningless, internet-comment-section thank you, for making an album worth loving, Ms Jaffe.
She sings beautifully
