I personally think it's up to the individual signer. Not all people speak English (for example) the same way, so why would all signers use the same signs, facial expressions, cadence (speed of signs)?

Some people want to mouth the words, others prefer to keep their lip movements to a minimum.

As long as people understand you....what difference does it really make?

it's a great class and very easy to learn. my sister works at the deaf and blind school in tucson, arizona, which is why i started learning in the first place. since then i've made deaf friends and they push me harder into learning the language faster. you should take a class, it's a lot of fun x]

You dont have to be deaf/Hoh to sign well. Practice anytime you can. You become quite proficient when you sign songs because you remember the words that correspond to the signs easier. I know that with practice you have the potential to be amazing! Good luck!
