Has anybody ever seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? This whole album alludes to the Child Catcher, and the movie itself. The Child Catcher uses scent to find children, that's why the album is Smells Like Children. Manson is dressed like him on the front, and many songs have samples from the movie. Also, there is an audio experiment called Shitty Chicken Gang Bang on the album.

The Smells Like Children EP was my first exposure to Marilyn Manson at the age of 10. As a pastor's kid, I was taught to abhor and fear everything that seemed contradictory to our blind biases and subjective morals. Being able to come back at 25, now, and really enjoy this music is great. By the time I went atheist at 15 I was into punk/grunge/alt stuff, so it was a couple of more years before I gave it another go. Long Hard Road Out of Hell is a good read, too.

@millysmelly He and the whole band were on cocaine and drunk and high constantly when they were trying to record the album. Finally Manson and Twiggy decided to quit the drugs so they could finally finish it. Read his biography, its one of the best things I have ever read and is incredibly interesting.
Before I say what I'm about to say... understand that I'm a fan of Manson... but this cover is horrible. I hate whenever anyone covers this song, actually. Screamin' Jay Hawkins is the only person who was able to do it right... but I guess it's appropriate for Manson to cover it since Screamin' Jay was probably the first "shock rock" musician ever...
