  • thats ken and barbie

  • this is really strange.... barbie dolls???

  • Sad story. She really loved him, but he told her he didn't feel anything for her, that happens. I still can't understand why he had to hurt her so bad. It broke her heart.

  • what the fuck?

  • is there any sex scenes??

  • what the fuck am I watching?? What is this ghastly piece of drivel? Shit man.

  • this is fucked up

  • The Philippines and The Filipinos Love you so much! Your songs are part of our life and the memories of our younger days. Im 42 y/old now and hearing your songs on my Ipod touch ...it made me cry ....

  • I'm a mom of an anorexic daughter....I did NOT find this video offensive, but actually--a great tool in teaching families of other anorexics & bulimics--the hard TRUTH as to the secret things the patient uses to NOT put on an ounce B-4 meals, they'll eat & as you show, throw it up before calories kick in. Coffee & salads were Karen's favorite foods - as it is my 23 y/o (suffering since 12 y/o), she wears layers at the docs for scale. Masters at lying re: food w/a warped sense of self in mirror.

  • This is SO SICK!! WHY WOULD YOU PUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS ABOUT KAREN CARPENTER??? SHAME ON YOU SvenMcTavisch!!

  • this is so sad. this is a great disrespect to the Carpenters

  • you stupid, stupid americans. This is why the rest of the world thinks your so anal

  • @slim439 sick sick sick

  • Thanks for posting this brilliant short concept piece by the brilliant Todd Haynes. And it reminded me of how much I love so many of Karen's songs. And of her other-worldly voice.

  • Cherry's therapist was Dr. Raymond Vath, not Steven Levenkron.

  • As a huge fan of Karen Carpenter I couldn't help but watch this and notice all the facts that are really, really off. However, despite the things that are wrong, this was still a very, very touching tribute to Karen and I really am touched by the over-sympathetic nature Todd Haynes gave her, it may not be 100% true, but it's still done very beautifully.

  • great film. i love todd and karen.

  • We could make a sort of parallel between the illness of Karen, who took Ipecac and died at 32, and the early death at 29 of Joelle Morgensen - an other pure, wonderful voice- from the band "Il Etait Une Fois", who took Mediator (to be slimer), which has been withdrawed.

  • this seems true just so damn sad

  • So long ago, Karen Carpenter was convinced she was obese even after she'd become practically skeletal (which is much easier to genuinely, spontaneously feel if you don't happen to literally be a plastic doll), & now the U.S. health care system, drug companies, & the media have all adopted the same delusions about people in general as Karen had about herself. Ironically, & at the risk of seeming sadistic. I much prefer the Carpenters' saddest songs. I guess they feel more truthful.

  • So sad

  • Thank you for posting this, this really is one of those gems that in the "olden days" (pre-internet) took so much effort to find but now, possibly, can reach more people. Todd Haynes has the most amazing eye, and a real gift for just cutting through all the gristle and getting right to the exact point of a matter a lot of people would shy away from.

  • Whoa! I thought this was a crazy idea, doing the Barbie doll. But it still evokes emotions, mainly sadness. This is a good piece of work. Thank you.

  • Good movie, but sad

  • Not a bad movie. Kind of out there tho.

  • Cherry Boone O'Neill's doctor that treated her was Ramond Vath, not Steven Levonkron.

  • thanks for uploading this, i have it on vhs and was just telling friends how good it is

  • I first saw this in film class in 1996. Brings back memories. Where can I get my bootleg copy?

  • bit torrent !!

  • @bobthenerve: Google Video.

  • thank you for posting this film. I have wanted to see it for years and because of it being 86'd I was never able to. I agree that it's very sympathetic to Karen and doesn't come across as a joke to me either. Fact is anorexics usually come from overcontrolling family environments. I don't doubt much of this film.

  • This film really made me feel for Karen, it's creative and well done, not a mean spirited joke.

  • What's with the spanking scenes???

  • its proble suposed to mean child abuse as they would call it now days

  • i took them to be a symbol of how controlled and powerless karen felt.

  • @ssudioTVgirl I'm guessing it's a visual analogy for anorexia--where, as previously showed in black subtitles, one becomes both dictator and victim over one's own body. So it's like Karen's punishing her body, and the only reward she gets in return is physical suffering.

  • I saw the Karen carpenter story on TV, I dont think they supported her very well and the performance was more important then her health and she had no control over her life.

  • No matter what Karen went through = that family really messed her up but we have is this beautiful music from her pain ---- thanks for posting this twisted video but really one should look at screwed up people's (Richards and HaGnes Carpenters)priorities. A friend of mine worked at A&M and after Karen died - one of Karen's dogs also died and Agnes Carpenter the mutha had said (about the dog) "Good riddance - she (Karen) had never cared about that mutt anyways!!! ---RIP Hagnes

  • @jobbybrit Geez, Agnes! :-(
