  • WARNING TO ALL STUDENTS: Dr. Vincent McKee,who used to run a company in Coventry offering private tuition, called ICUT (UK), has now changed the name of the company to University and Academy Tutors, or UAT (GB). DO NOT approach ICUT/UAT for your tutorial needs.Dr. Vincent McKee was outed as a FRAUDSTER by Sky News in January 2011. As a result, McKee has changed his company's name and HIS OWN NAME : he now calls himself Patrick Murray, and he is STILL DEFRAUDING STUDENTS.Just Google his name !

  • Im in the middle of one right now and can sign what you two guys are discussing, actually EVERYBODY should try some form of psychotherapy... you cant imagine how much stuff which isnt really us, we carry around, that keeps us from evolving fully

  • Stefan.....I don't know you, but right off the top you sure do have a great vibe. You offer a lot of value.

  • One needs to be very cautious who is doing the therapy and where they are coming from. There are some credentialed individuals who use a singular template/diagnosis for finding every problem an individual has is they were abused by parents. This is akin to seeing a doctor for a bloody nose and being told they have broken arm - - as it is the only diagnosis they make. That sigular template comes out of the book,"The Courage to Heal" .

  • what about getting monetary gain AND psychological therapy

  • that buttoned top button craves a tie... or unbuttoning

  • he does seem a little "uptight", here, maybe. :D just kidding.

  • Not related to this but check out intelligencesquared . com for stream of 'Atheism Is The New Fundamentalism' debate with The Dawk, etc 19:00 GMT Sun 29.11.09 (or should I say 11.29.09?) - conveniently just b4 fdr Sun show!

  • You would really have to know a person to determine whether or not therapy effected their income. Stef's (or whoever - x's) achievement may have been coincidence, serendipity, pre-wrought, so on. Certainly, it could be therapy as well. We all make better deals when we're in good moods.

Wealth=happiness? We all know a wealthy person can be bitter, but take a poverty person and give them wealth and you will see pure elation!

14:40 5 years later, when the 50 thou pounds are gone, you'll have..

  • ...the memories and possibly the goods provided by the extra money.

Another consideration: autognosis is going to be easier for some than others. Therapy may not provide the same monetary effect for someone who is deeply troubled than someone who isn't as troubled. If you're just outside the mentally healthy range, you may experience what seems to be grave benefits, but is much less of an achievement as someone who is thoroughly depressed and receives but a mite of benefit.

  • How can you gather data on happiness?

  • great interview. so as a psych major i like the idea that therapy can help make people happier. and i agree fully that money does no buy happiness. but is therapy for everyone? i have the feeling that if i were to get therapy it would just make me dwell on conflicts in my life more than i already am, making me feel depressed.

  • Who needs psychology when we have philosophy? Don't you think philosophy inspires self knowledge over psychology?

  • Lovely little post you made, and very true.

  • Great stuff!

  • I loved the interview, but I got some massive quality degradation throughout to the point that it was really choppy and lagged at the end. I have had this problem a number of times with FDR videos, but not others. Are you encoding them differently recently Stef?

  • Thank you again stef.

  • Sorry to hear about your depression. I know what it's like.

I've been having the same problem.

I guess it would be a good idea to ask the therapist very early on what their idea of successful treatment is.

I think "I'm gonna help you become a productive taxpayer" is a definite bad sign. =)

  • good nutrition

  • How does one chose a therapist?

  • That's the million dollar question, right? I suppose make sure that they don't dismiss your childhood experiences for starters. I'd also shy away from psychiatrists who are quick to prescribe medication. Assuming you are not religious then might also want to make sure they don't incorporate religious views into their treatment.

I would think you'd be able to call around to their offices as a potential patient and let them give you a 2 minute spiel. Then again they may be too busy for that.

  • As I understand it, psychiatry is a rather different field than psychotherapy/psychoanalysis/CBT etc though, and so not to be too closely confused.

  • Correct....psychiatry is a medical degree and follows a disease model.

  • stef can u tell me what happened when you were in therapy that gave you permanent benefit?

  • He talks about that in pretty much every podcast ;)

  • well why dont you tell me then since you seem to know the answer

  • The basis of Freedoman Radio is very much the result of his therapy sessions and the thought patterns emerged from this.

I can't tell you his history as it would probably be incomplete, but listen to some more of his podcasts if you want an insight into your question.

  • You don't seem to have brought up any evidence to your claims either...

  • Stefan definitely has a knack for dramatizing but I think the point he was getting at was simply: what do I have to gain from denying the coming end of the world? According to Al Gore and the UN If I am wrong my life and the lives of my family could be in peril. On the contrary what could the promoters of global warming have to Gain? In other words what can ANYONE gain from convincing people, that their lives will be destroyed unless they do X Y and Z?

  • Have you seen his video on the topic from a few years ago?

    watch?v=j27XJ0vjr0Y

  • Thank you for the link. I'm watching it tonight. I'll try to reply.

  • I think his point was that the climate research has very little value if you have to force people to pay for it. I agree that it came out in a VERY odd way but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt in the light of his generally very bright podcasts.

  • Indeed the rest of that video was genius. I guess not all people who see the light of free market anarchy are always rational.

  • Thanks, Stef. Positive and intelligent stuff, and curiously it cheered me up. Perhaps it's adults talking about psychology and self knowledge without whispering or looking like they just shat on the floor.

  • Haha, very well put my friend! :)

  • do you have to be unhappy to undergo therapy?

  • @throwntomato

To think that one has to be unhappy to undergo therapy is a misconception of what therapy is about, which is self-acceptance as well as self-improvement. These are extremely beneficial things to do when you are happy, but unfortunately for most people their lives have to get extremely negative and unhappy before they are motivated to go to do something about it.

  • @loodimity thank-you, very much for your reply!

  • Pre-video comment: 32 times? That sounds suspiciously specific.

  • Hey, I'm a Boyce. Nothing else to add.

  • thanks, it was very helpful
