I love this movie since I'm a little girl, but the book is so much more emotional... it's sad thet Heidi's Grandfather is sucha mean old man in the film. :( He isn't at all in the book; he didn't make Heidi's parents run away.

well, the beginning wasn't in the book, the Grandfather's sons name was Tobias, not John, and whilst he was killed by a falling tree, his wife Adelhied died later of grief. all in all, the beginning has been majorly disappointing.

Funny when you see the role-reversal of a grown man seeming to imitate a baby: Jason Robards opens his mouth and bawls just like infant Heidi.

Strange beginning. If both parents died virtually right in front of him why didn't he take the girl and raise her from then? Makes him seem very hard-hearted, I think anyway.
