  • Ripping W a brand new one.

  • He reminds me of a typical successful guy who has made money from his art and probably has a very large house with grand piano, recording studio etc yet when he does interviews he seems unhappy with his life. No disrespect, just saying.

  • They only dislike us because its fashionable to dislike us

  • Way to go Randy.

  • good song, but I'm sorry: Pluto is not a planet.

We all wish it was, but it is not. Too small, for one example. If we want to count Pluto then there are several other satalites just like it we also must name as planets

  • Scorching to the spirit. Let's buy Fords, listen to the farmers, and quit thinking the glass is half full; get our flag tattooed on your arm, take the kids fishing, and bring flowers home to your partner tomorrow. God Bless America!

  • @sortafly Do you feel better now that you've told us?

  • The jab at Clarence Thomas is hilarious. As a black man, I had to pause the song and take a knee.

  • "Despite all we've done for them and to them" - Precisely why other countries see America as an overly arrogant country who seem to believe they are somehow above other countries.

-The Caesar's are a rather silly example to give. Completely different time and culture.

-There's some significant issues of war crimes/inappropriate treatment of prisoners/civilians/enemy combatants (Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Guantanamo Bay etc) Also the treatment of native Americans, slavery, racism etc for the USA

  • @RadarWesh - you seem immune to satire. i would recommend listening to a few more of newman's socially satirical songs. start with rednecks

  • such an appropriate song for 9/11.

  • Goodbye US superpower, hello Chinese superpower.

  • @kitabwalli i wouldn't be so quick to say that

  • this makes me think about the randy newman south park special:)

  • Randy? Hypocritical? Listen again. Watch again. Until you understand. Randy is cynical yes. And satyrical as well. But hypocritical? As a man, as we all are. As a songwriter? Never. Randy is the greatest.

  • Nice song-writer, very original voice, but my God practically every line of this song is unbelievably hypocritical. Not to mention his gullability when it comes to fictitious historical events.

  • @boru1982 those are some mighty big words, friend

  • I saw him live this evening in Melbourne Australia,30/7/11 with the Melbourne Symphony orchestra. He is very talented, funny, insightful, witty and charming.

  • BUT, It is kinda weird to compare the dictators of the world troughout time, with the democratic leaders we have now... It's like killing thousand humans and then say: Well, im not as bad as Hitler. Cause: NO, You're not as bad as Hitler, Indeed, you are very right, you are not as bad as Hitler...

It has come too far, if Hitler is the last person you can compare yourself to, in terms of evilness. Nobody in the world thought Bush was worse then Hitler. Bush is a cutie compared to him.

  • This guy has unbelievable talent, he's talking about a serious topic while playing a peacful melody no the piano and it turns out to be a brilliant song and all he does is talk, don't get me wrong, i still think he can sing very well which makes him even more brilliant

  • You only have to look at him to see how talented he is. It's not an act, he's really white.

  • I thought he was black

  • un mito.

  • Dont vote in Palin and UK will continue to love you

  • I love Randy, especially his talk-singing.

  • You're correct about the people of the USA, they are not bad. And it's not goodbye Randy, it's hello, a very big hello, in fact the biggest hello you've ever heard. I have every faith that the good old USA will lead us into a new World of peace and freedom. In fact, one of your citizens is on the case right now. Check out Jaque Fresco.

  • "an empire is ending..." sorry folks.."good bye,..good bye.."

  • pluto is not a planet anymore either :)

  • I have nothing but respect for Randy Newman although he seems to be writing variations of the same song for years, but I see no defense in pointing out the past failures of past states.

  • @ATREU73 :he has written a song called ' you're dead' which addresses this issue and takes the p*ss out of himself.

  • Dayuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum

  • The problem with Europe right now is that it's gotten so used to peace (and so afraid of war, which is quite understandable) that it refuses to accept the fact that the rest of the world is NOT as lucky as they are. This is going to blow up in their face sooner or later of course - Europe can't maintain its stability forever if they keep assuming they're untouchable. Not with all the s*** that's going down these days...

(This commenter, BTW, is European. Well, Kinda).

  • I fucking love Randy Newman

  • Its weird how people still think that countries and people mean jack shit to the scum in charge right now. But I'm perfectly sure they're rubbing their hands in glee at the division. In my humble opinion, ordinary people are the same everywhere, they want the same simple things and they want peace. Wars are not made by people, they are made by their ursupers to distract them. Kill the bankers, abolish money, put religion into the realm of the private where it belongs and things solve themselves.

  • Why do all youtube comments lead to arguments? new Zealand is pretty chill though, I think I'll go there everyone else is a bunch of bitches. I'm American, yes, we fuck shit up, alot. So does every other country... except New Zealand.

  • yah nobody expects the spanish inquisition

  • Both Revolution1117 and Southparker100000000 should lay off of it, and realise they're both operating out of Hate which has NO PRACTICAL APPLICATTION WHATSOEVER. And should grow the fuck up, and realise that Now is the Moment, and people are people today, not 1,000 or 100 years ago.

If you can't fucking accept that, then never expect to be forgiven for a single thing in your lifetime.

You're you-Now. Not you-Yesterday. Same as the rest of us.

Let's ACCEPT Love and comedy and F'ING LAUGH!

  • @LordShivasServant To take pride in the suffering, past or present, of others, is a crime against humanity. A crime that most Americans are blatantly guilty of. The sooner they realize this, the better. And you cannot forgive them for something they have not sought forgiveness for, they don't even feel a single shred of guilt, they need to be backhanded into a corner by the civilized world and told that if they don't shut up and behave then they will be exterminated like the vermin they are.

  • @Southparker100000000 Would ya fuck yourself.

Go buy a loaf of bread - you're culpable in this very crime. This is absolute blind projection. I'm not saying I was never guilty of it, I was! But all the better, because now I can tell you that you're WRONG.

Look at yourself and how you're damaging the landbase you live on, how you're supporting suffering and slavery, all in the dark. You, like your American counterparts, have exported all the violence you create. It's called DENIAL.

  • @LordShivasServant Right, being shot whilst protecting a complete stranger with my body during a shooting is an exportation of violence, and my avid recycling is destroying my landmass, and now my bread is made by slaves somehow(probably the best paid, most unionized slaves in the world I reckon)?

One question, are you retarded or just really stupid?

  • @Southparker100000000 I love how you illogical tools can just make shit up on the spot.

What you said was sarcastic and had no validity in any context aside from childish slander.

You taking a bullet says nothing about Americans being any less than you are, you reasonless prick.

It's called your landBASE, not your landmass. You illiterate dipshit.

You can't even manage a conversation, who are you calling stupid and retarded.

This is the same infantile shit you had going with the other guy

  • @LordShivasServant Thank you, for your intelligent post, but I'm truly not "acting out of hate", just defending blatant lies about the U.S. Trying to convince people like SouthPorker10000 to think and act like you say is like talking to a rock. They're too filled with hate to hear or be tolerant. Fortunately, the majority of the world is filled with good people and Southporker10000 is the rare exception. I've said my piece, and I honestly wish good will to everyone out there. Peace Out.

  • Randy Newman is a genius, and I've always been a fan, particularly this song. No doubt one of the best songwriter & composers in the 20th century!

-Also, my "sincere" apologies to all here for "monopolizing" this thread with my augments with this dimwit "Southparker1000000" and his "anti-american" rantings. He's just one of these trolls who goes from thread to thread trying to further his agenda, and contributing nothing. CHEERS!

  • @Revolution1117

"monopolizing" this thread with my fallacies with this intellectual superior"

    Fixed.

  • @Southparker100000 NOW I get it: you're a former Commie from Uzbekistan, who now has their hands back in the pockets of the Russians and Chinese. Remember the U.S,"gave you" $500billion in '04? Also, how do you like your President Karimov and the Andijan Massacre? And, no,"the West" had nothing to do that either. Your Gov't can't even keep from slaughtering it's own people! Karimov is an autocratic leader, stifling dissent and banning opposition to his rule. Great country you got there! LOL!

  • @Revolution1117 Uh wrong again my ignorant American friend, I am Swedish, working in the Uzbekistan embassy. But even then, it's not as if the Uzbek people blindly support these actions, unlike Americans who sit back and allow their government to murder hundreds of thousands in foreign countries, over such trivial things as "Communism" like you stated, something you've all been brain washed into thinking is evil.

Also note, The US openly supports Karimov's regime, think on that.

  • @Southporker: You're an idiot! You go on about the U.S. apologizing for everything you think it's EVER done throughout it's history. What about your tolerance for Muslims, allowing the Nazi's to use your railways, or further back, the Thirty Year War,the Vikings, etc. I've heard no apologies for these atrocities.I've visited Sweden;found it and people quite nice, even with me being American.BTW, Obama made a "world tour of apologies", much to my chagrin. You prove there are fools in every country.

LOL!

  • anybody that has studied the French revolution knows how scummy and stupid europeans are.... o and did i forget Hitler? Musolini? the British, Roman Empire? Napolean? all tyranical oppressive countries and rulers.....

  • @vousmonde You forgot Leonardo Da Vinci, William Shakespeare, Ludwig van Beethoven, Christopher Columbus, Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Isaac Newton, Michelangelo, Vincent Van Gogh, Aristotle, Pablo Piccaso, Plato, Charles Darwin, and Stephen Hawking.

Also you can go ahead and thank the Roman and British empire for you're entire way of life, they both in fact can take credit for it. Rome basically invented your political/legal system and language dumbass.

But I don't expect you to know that.

  • @Southparker100000000 Not exactly euro scum ... I only thank all european countries for being so dumb hypocritical and socialist that they alienated their intellectual capital and led to the formation of the greatest country on earth.....Last time i checked Europeans were equal to Satan's ass ooze ... and you are one of them ... so go eat your duck liver, snails, rabbits, frogs or whatever disgusting thing you find slithering on the ground and get a life....

  • @vousmonde Dear fellow American,

I would recommend refraining from bashing our European neighbors. Europeans are among the most cultured on the planet, and in addition to the historical pitfalls--dictators were mentioned earlier--we must also recognize the obvious successes of Europe. And who cares if many of those nations are socialist? Welfare states are, undeniably, among the most successful on the planet.

    Best regards,

    A fellow American

  • You are so limited in you awareness and understanding of the HUMAN condition.

There is no point in continuing this. Dismissed.

  • I remember watching this alot on a tv show called "The Fizz". They'd show this every day. And I loved watching it speaks alot about what America is today "...end of an empire, like all the rest...." love the line!

  • I only disagree with Randy Newman on one thing -- the American 'Empire' is not ending. We are still the leader of the free world - and the first to step-up whenever the world needs help, as in Japan after their recent tragedy. No matter the spite, scorn and lack of respect by so many -- which, by the way, is a result of a cancerous jealousy and irritation of other's no longer being at the top-of-the-heap -- we will be there when 'they' need us to be, as always. I bleed red, white and blue.

  • @dlpine71 You're probably the kind of dude he likes, and not the jerks he's lampooning here.

  • @droid740 Thanks, for that, as I think Randy Newman bleeds red, white and blue, also.

  • @dlpine71 lol try and police the world some more faggot American.

  • @dlpine71 also, the entire world doesn't hate American because we're jealous, we hate America because it's full of douche bags like you that think we're jealous of your police state. It's full of douche bags that think it's alright to enter another country and fuck it up for no reason at all other than pure monetary gain. It's full of people that go about their lives as their country murders hundreds of thousands, then get confused and angry when someone does it back to them. ps, America sucks.

  • @Southparker100000000 Your own vulgar vocabulary and response is the undeniable stamp of evidence of your very believable - yet, entertaining - ignorance.

  • @dlpine71 lol tell yourself that all you want if it makes you feel any better, doesn't change the fact the world would celebrate the day America was turned into a smoldering hole.

  • @Southparker100000000 Your remarks are very laughable, Southporker. I think you're not only a small part of the world in your view and opinion - but, also very small - probably, in more ways than one. Stick your 'Napoleon Complex' in your own miserable hole that you fit so well in!

  • @Southparker100000000- I don't know where your from, but I can guarantee you the your country from has "befitted" from the U.S. in some way at some point. Did we "take" land after WWI or WWII? No! Did we take Iraq's oil? No!Try and name a country that we've "taken" land or riches from. You can't! BTW,who does EVERY country turn to for money, aid, protection, on and on. Who's the world's largest philanthropic country? The U.S. that's who! Stay right where you are, scumbag, we don't need you.

  • @Revolution1117 Germany, Canada, All Aboriginal tribes of North America, Iraq(America did take their oil and it's now an American puppet state), Vietnam, and Japan, just to name a few. Also some of the worst crimes against humanity committed in the past 200 years are attributed to your "human loving" country. The genocide of aboriginals, the Japanese interment camps, the genocide of 200 thousand Japanese civilians in an instant. The invasion of Canada, and killing of their civilians.

  • @Southparker100000000

Eyes wide open pal. We ain't alone in the nasty dept.

This is the human condition not just an American. Expand your awareness and your horizons.

Darkness is not an exclusive monopoly of America.

  • @KarlLaphong No other country has launched a nuclear weapon in anger, none the less against a civilian populace, ever. All countries that blatantly invade foreign soil for sheer monetary gain and have the temerity to claim the high ground in doing so are a cancer. America is the most anti-human war machine on this planet, with flag waving civilians reminiscent of Nazi Germany, with ideologies terrifyingly similar. Case in point, the "great" American dream, "To live better at others expense."

  • @Southparker100000000 Let's hear about YOUR country for a change, wherever that is. Or are you too afraid and/or ashamed to admit it? We're all waiting!

  • @Revolution1117 That is a fallacy, as I am not claiming my country is great, where as you are. Please use more fallacies, it only proves me correct in saying that the average American is as ignorant as a door knob.

  • @Southparker100000000 LAst comment to you, as your a driveling, lying excuse of humanity. So you hate America; BIG FUCKIN' DEAL! No one cares what you think. Every country has it's flaws, but the U.S. and it's citizens ARE NOT the "evil empire" you seem to have talked yourself into. Why do you think so many people have, and continue to,immigrate here? Because we "suck" as you say? HARDLY...the EXACT opposite! I'm done arguing with a half-wit. Have a WONDERFUL life, you miserable piece of crap!

  • @Revolution1117 lol, One day the American empire will fall and all your slave nations will cast of the bonds of servitude and kill their former masters, I shall enjoy that day heartily.

  • @Southporker10000000- One last thing I forgot. Germany and Japan, combined, committed more crimes against humanity and atrocities in 4-plus years than the U.S. has committed (as you say) in the last 230 years. Come to think of it, unless you prove otherwise, I actually think that with your "handle" and the way you talk, that you actually ARE an American.A young, crazy, Code Pink Leftist, who wants the U.S. become a socialist/Marxist state like your pal Obama. C'mon, tell us the truth for once!

  • @Revolution1117 Fallacy again, my political orientation does not affect my being right or wrong, also burden of proof is upon you to prove such a benign claim. There again with American ignorance, and you all honestly wonder why the world hates you?

  • @Revolution1117

    1. Lol at your massive fear of communism, grow the fuck up, no one cares about your red scare bullshit.

    2. How can you measure crimes against humanity? But you're right, Germany and Japan did some baaaaaaaad shit. Though...Guantanamo JUST SAYIN'! Seriously, everyones country seems to have been involved in some dark shit. America's not perfect, and seriously, the rest of the world REALLY doesn't like you, because America is the playground bully :)

  • @Southparker10000000 Over 230yrs America has not been perfect.I'll agree with you on the American Natives.Everything else you've noted is just America-hating spin. Japan& Germany declared war on us!The object of war is victory. Did we take any land or resources from them? NO! We helped rebuild them! Both are thriving, sovereign democracies! "Canada" was during the Revolutionary war with Britain (1775)where WE were the oppressed!I dare you to PROVE to me the U.S. "took oil" from Iraq! TOTAL B.S.!!

  • @Southparker10000000 Assuming that you ARE a leftist "canuck", how much land did YOUR people take from YOUR "Natives", if you're SO willing to go back over the entire history of a nation? Is today's Italy a "bad" country because of The Roman Empire, also? No nation has a "perfect" history. Get a grip, man! Lastly, if it wasn't for the U.S., you'd be speaking German or Japanese today. It must SUCK living with so much anger. People who always criticize, generally contribute NOTHING to life.

  • @Revolution1117 That is a fallacy, Italy is not the Roman Empire, The United States of America, is still the United States of America. P.S. the Russians and Commonwealth were far more influential in the defeat of Germany than America and could have easily beat them themselves, and Japan only attacked pearl harbour to get the Americans to fight the Germans, many Japanese admiralty at the time admit to that. Also, not Canadian btw dumbass, must suck being so ignorant.

  • @Southparker100000000 "Easily beat them"? You are SO full of shit on your knowledge of history. I'm curious, where does a dumb-ass like yourself live if you're not from Canada, then?? Britain was on the verge of defeat before Germany declared war on the U.S., and a huge portion of Russia was occupied by the Nazis. The U.S supplied BOTH the Russians and the commonwealth with arms and men forcing Germany to fight two fronts.Just keep making up your anti-American history, you're QUITE amusing.LOL!

  • @Revolution1117 Is that what they teach you in school? I Learned WW2 history whilst in Germany and there I think they teach a fairly accurate class on the proceedings, Berlin was captured by the Russians, using Russian guns and armour, the commonwealth fought 10 times more ferociously than the Americans, using British guns and armour. America ran around waving their dick and claimed victory when the dust had settled. The Russians stopped the German advance and turned the tides by themselves.

  • @Southparker100000000 You're correct on your history of the END of the war. If you had read my post, I was talking about when the U.S. was declared war on by Japan/Germany.Stalin made it a point that they wanted to take Berlin. Hmmmm, wonder why? The spread of Communism, that's why! My Mum is a Brit, so you don't have to convince me on their will to fight. ".. fought 10 times more ferociously? PLEASE! Speaking of the British Empire, why not bag on them for all their "atrocities" throughout time?

  • @Revolution1117 Wrong again, The communists took Berlin because they wanted to capture Hitler themselves and torture him to death, You really don't know anything beyond your flawed American education do you? Also why are you implying I don't hate the British for what they did? Americans also seem to think the world revolves around them.

  • @Revolution1117 Most warfare historians agree that Russia would have won had America never been involved in the European theatre. That is a fact.

  • @Southparker100000000 Very easy for you to write your own history behind the screen of a computer, anonymously, isn't it? Particularly when you have no references to back up your claims. If you think the re-taking of France, and ultimately Europe, via "Operation Overlord" (that's "D-day", for idiots like you) could have been accomplished without the Americans, your teachers didn't teach you very well. Interesting that you still keep avoiding the question where your from? Hmmm...wonder why?

  • @Revolution1117 On D-day the Americans took the easiest beaches, the commonwealth soldiers took the most well defended beaches, that is a military fact, still taught in American war colleges.

And again with your fallacy, Do you know what a fallacy is? Didn't think so. My country of origin does not change the fact that the world Hates America, and does not change the fact that America is the most blatant anti0human first world country in the world. PS France was retaken by Canada.

  • @Southparker100000000 LOL! Read your history, the"commonwealth" had the least defended beaches on average. Look it up, if your capable. Just more blatant "historical revisionism" from you.

  • @Southparker100000000 The "fact" is that the U.S. sacrificed blood and treasure for "Europe"! The U.S. was adamant about not entering the European war, until Churchill BEGGED Roosevelt for help, and then was ultimately drawn in by Germany & Japan by declaring war on the U.S. Go back to your books and learn something.!

  • @Revolution1117

"until Churchill BEGGED Roosevelt for help"

    "Churchill begged for help"

    "Churchill begged"

And with that your dumbassery has been solidified, have a nice day.

  • @Southparker100000000 Yes, Churchill did "most sincerely ask" (e,g beg) for help from Roosevelt, hence "Lend-Lease Act" of 1941 that supplied the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, China, France and other Allied nations with vast amounts of war materials so the U.S. could stay out of the European war. Read, you may learn something! I'm DONE!

  • @Revolution1117 German Gold, Art and Scientists, stolen and kidnapped by the American government, Japanese civilians murdered after the Emperor tried to surrender. The invasion of British Canada was after the American revolution was over and peace had been declared between Britain and the Colonies. America entered Iraq, destroyed the oil industry and allowed American businessmen to buy up the resources from the bankrupt Iraqis. God damn Americans are even ignorant of their own history.

  • I wish rappers had 1/9636 of the lyrical talent this man has... I don't like to thin k about the effects of that, but sometimes I like to think about it?!?

  • Hey Sammy boy Alito he's talkin bout you man..!

  • The way he talks is so hilarious Lol.

  • Spanish Inquisition, that's a good one.... puttin' people in a TERRIBLE position!

  • he is awesome

  • @EverSoTired You keep using the term "Social Darwinism" as though it is an observable phenomenon and a fact of nature. It is neither. Nor is it actual Darwinism. It is not a cause or process for anything in human society or nature, but rather a justification for racism and genocide.

Your ambivalence toward atrocity is, though regrettable, nevertheless understandable. But attributing the horrible things humans do en masse to one another to "Social Darwinism" puts the cart before the horse.

  • @Archronis Nobody who believes in evolution calls it "Darwinism". Contrary to the insistence of religious fundamentalists, the scientific community has proven a lot of his beliefs to be dated.

"Natural selection" is undeniable. "Natural selection" means that if you can't survive, you won't. Luckily, the species that tend to survive over time are those who take care of one another, because brute dominance doesn't work over time.

  • @GilbertSmith I am aware of these things. I was using this terminology to punctuate the difference between actual science and what EverSoTired was talking about. I was not saying darwinism/natural selection were not real, I was saying that proponents of Social Darwinism use the terminology to try to legitimize it.

  • @Archronis Ah. Yeah you're right. "Social Darwinism" is a dumb notion that you hear people espouse way too often.

  • Peerless,brilliant...

  • Peerless...brilliant;thank God for Randt Newman

  • Europeans can hold up their noses and stand on their moral high ground as much as they want...

The biggest crimes against humanity in the modern era of history were committed or at least started by Europeans - at the top are the Holocaust and the Berlin Conference.

the Spanish rape of Mexico and South America, Opium Wars, religious persecution, the Atlantic Slave Trade

But in the end it's not a matter of innocence or guilt. Just human nature and Social Darwinism.

  • @EverSoTired the USA went from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds and now we want to adopt europes socialism, it's working so well there. If congress and obama would do nothing but leave Washington we'd be a hell of a lot better off.

  • @EverSoTired America engaged in genocide in the 19th century of indigenous American population, the Indian Removal Act being a major part of it.

But, I agree with you regardless, I don't think any nation in the word can stand on a high moral ground, all nations have skeletons in their closets and things to be ashamed of.

My country, Sweden, for example engaged in eugenics in the mid-20th century in the form of forced sterilization of people considered mentally weak/ill.

  • @Gargantou .. yeah we definitely shit on the Indians, but like I said, Social Darwinism... if you're living in homes made of leather or mud and fighting with sticks, rocks and sinew while the other side is industrialized and has modern weapons....you're going to get taken over, it's that simple.

It's nice to imagine a world where people choose humanity and compassion over personal gain and profit, but it's not realistic, and there's about 4,000 years of human history to support that.

  • @EverSoTired I agree, that's why we need the deliberate and systematic destruction of all human life.

  • @Gargantou . now we're talkin'.

  • @thedeafparrot It's still important that SOMEBODY say it, somebody keep an eye on things. Being blind and ignorant is the alternative and some folks never stop to think. Nonthinking people are very dangerous. Those who speak out are the blessed ones, who exercise that important liberty of free speech for the purpose of stimulating contemplation of the things that should be thought through. Our founders knew that.

  • been too long since I listened to this one!! Love Randy!!

  • What a genius! Americas greatest living composer ... hands down!!!! "Pluto's not planet either". Hahahahahahahahahaha ... I have had every one of his albums the week it came out for over 40 years. His body of work is incredible.

  • I guess there are a lot of people posting here who have no experience with Randy Newman;'s sense of humor. He's not really "defending" our country, he's mocking the horrible things done by the Bush regime,.

  • rome lasted a little while. take it easy. good song.

  • /watch?v=gZ-gw4AWpW4

The short history for my State

  • I agreed with him on some of the stuff he said, but when he started to say that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was not a brother because he is a strict Constitutionalist (like all supreme court justices should be... They shouldn't be trying to legislate from the bench, there not legislators dammit!) as a black man I felt offended enough to reply. Im so sick and tired of you commies I can't F'n wait till 2012.

  • Randy, I loved you when you sang six or seven hundred songs about starwars on MadTV XD

  • Doesn't have to be goodbye Randy. Yes they tried out Karl Marx's plan and it failed miserably. Why ? Because they tried to do it around a monetary system, doesn't work. Do away with money and it works beautifully. USA - land of the brave and free - are you brave enough to taste real freedom ? If you are then be the first country to dispense with the Money System.

  • Randy Newman and Bob Dylan are the most prolific song writers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Keep on puttiing out those great tunes, guys! :)

  • @MajikMusic1 why such a retarded comment? those two are great but you're leaving out songwriters like leonard cohen, john lennon, jacques brel etc.

  • @MajikMusic1 Yes! Perfect analysis!

  • Ok fuck all who are arguing on the internet.

    Randy Newman I love you.

  • bleunt ... you're a dork.

  • @deelightandbrite You're a dork.

  • @bleunt the King/Queen of all dorkdom!!! ;)

The paternal side of Newman's family includes three uncles who were noted Hollywood film-score composers: Alfred Newman, Lionel Newman and Emil Newman. Newman's cousins Thomas and David, and nephew Joey are also composers for motion pictures. He graduated from University High School in Los Angeles. Newman attended the University of California, Los Angeles. He lived the first 11 years of his life in New Orleans...

  • @daddyfarlessa "OK."

  • For the confused: please google "satire". And, "Yes" that last sentence might be satire. I'd make all four lines rhyme. If I could.

  • "times like theese we shure could use a friend"

  • @adambinaz *sure

  • Sad to see how mean-spirited Newman has become.

  • My goodness, I'm glad to see that satire is still so easily missed. He isn't proposing that it's ok, because others are worse. He is lampooning the entire idea . . .

  • I'm Canadian and I find that people who badmouth America are fucking band-wagoners. They try to sound smart, but wind up sounding like pompous assholes. The US is basically the top world power. Almost every song, movie or trend is started there, and I guess people feel threatened by that.

  • @xXKaM1KaZe Everything has its time, this is the time of the US.

  • the jibe at Clarence Thomas made me laugh so hard my stomach hurts.

  • @MobiusBandwidth I hear you. But check out that dangerous, batty wife of his and the laughs just die.

  • also all you people badmouthing america you probably have your nose so high in the air if it rained you would drown, the primary reason people hate america, well theres always been a whole lot of opposition to my young country i don't see why americans should let snobs on youtube get to them of all things.

i wish some people would sympathize with americans we aren't so different from all the other older countries we are still young in the worlds eyes, but we will rise up like we always do.

  • i love america.

  • "I don't even like to think about it.... sometimes I like to think about it" lol Awesome.

  • Always respected the man but a defense to criticism that starts with 'others do worse' isn't very defenseful. Especially when you have to go back to Caligula (the emperor that made his horse proconsul) and the Spanish inquisition to find worse leader.

  • "despite all we did for them..."

Well there's your problem Randy, YOU didn't do anything, and those that did are all to ready to overstate their contribution. The whole "you'd be speaking German etc etc" rhetoric is one of the primary reasons (but far, far from the exclusive reason) that Europeans, especially the British get so annoyed. To use the American vernacular, it's utter 'Bullshit'.

  • cant fuckin wait to see him in Louisville

  • @UMSMASTA i live right by louisville =D

  • @xyrial obviously concepts such as irony sarcasm and satire escape you

  • touche Randy Newman.

  • Hope Randy Newman will one day realize he was wrong when writing this song. The USA is the biggest fck-up ever. Talking about Belgium while the US is the biggest consumer of natural resources in the world (and not from their own land)! Obviously I'm not saying 'the Ceasars', 'the Spanish', Hitler, Stalin and King Leopold where innocent in any way, but the americans have exceeded them on all levels.

  • @xyrial

You are a complete idiot (not to mention a liar). You claim, "the Americans have exceeded Hitler and Stalin on all levels." Really? Let's see: Stalin is recognized as having killed (mostly by starvation) ~ 20 million people. Hitler killed at least 6 million Jews (which you probably approve of) and hundreds of thousands more soldiers and civilians in WW II.

Explain how America has "exceeded" the tens of millions killed by Hitler & Stalin. Be very specific in your answer.

  • Randy, you're the greatest!

  • So his defense is that they're not as bad as nazi Germany?

  • @bleunt exactly my friend. shame

  • @bleunt Exactly, sorry Newman, you are the prototype of ignorant citizens the USA is trying to create.

  • @bleunt No what he's saying is that people ignore the good the US has done and the bad other countries have done. Truth be told, the USA has the most cases of philanthropy out of any country.

  • @MarlonOwnsYourCake Wait. Just, wait. Are you serious? Are you saying people have forgotten about nazi Germany? Really? You can't be serious. Please, tell me you're not serious. You can't possibly be that oblivious. And please link a source to confirm your last statement.

  • @bleunt no, Nazi Germany wasn't the only country he mentioned. How about Spain and Belgium or while we're on the subject, England, Portugal, Cuba, and modern-day Burma?

Wikipedia has a list of most charitable countries.

  • @MarlonOwnsYourCake Well you said people ignore the bad things other countries have done, after I specifically mentioned nazi Germany. If you don't mean nazi Germany, then please mention something the entire world ignores. And yeah, what about Spain and Belgium? What about them? The Spanish Inquisition several HUNDREDS of years ago? And if you're not going to provide a link then you're full of bullshit.

  • @bleunt youtube doesn't allow links to be posted, type "list of most charitable countries" into wikipedia.

Other than the inquisition, Spain, conquered and destroyed the cultures of loads of countries (e.g. all the ones other than Spain that currently speak Spanish) Belgium effectively destroyed the Congo. I'm not a History professor and youtube doesn't provide enough characters so you're going to have to google some of this stuff yourself America isn't the worst.

  • @MarlonOwnsYourCake I checked out the stats. You lied. America gives the most, because they have the most. But they're not the most generous, as the stats show. According the the percentage of their BNP, my country (Sweden) is the most generous country. America is at twenty-something. Oh, and about destroying cultures... ever heard of what happened to the natives who used to live in America? And about Africa, heard of slavery? Try some more current deeds, please.

  • @bleunt note:as far as private philanthropy goes the US give the highest percentage of GDP.

America hasn't done as much cultural destruction in its past as England, Portugal, Spain or even France.

Current Russia is making people disappear just for speaking out against the government, Than Shwe of Burma/Myanmar is committing ethnic cleansing and putting up labor camps among other horrible things right now.

  • @MarlonOwnsYourCake No. You're reading the data wrong. The numbers you refer to are only representing domestic contributions, ie what is donated within the country itself. Therefore you can not use it as an argument in a discussion about how America does good in the world. If you look at which country gives the most of their GDP to other countries, America is at 20-something. Do you get what I'm saying?

  • @bleunt

Measuring "how America does good in the world," as you put it, simply by some charitable figures on Wikipedia is laughable. Those figures say nothing about how America is the ONLY reason you and the rest of this planet are not speaking German or Russian right now. Who else was strong enough to stop them? Sweden? You're welcome. *rolls eyes*

Nor do those figures measure the fact that America's economy carries the world economy on its shoulders. Study economics sometime.

  • @Ken5244 I just love how Americans are so ignorant that they actually think WW2 were a favour. As if it didn't matter to them. Do you really believe that? So you're saying America would let the holocaust happen if Japan didn't attack you? Really? You're serious? Wow, what a noble country. And I love how you choose to ignore fact and statistics. And I love how you think a country owned by China is carrying the world economy.

  • @bleunt

Your post re WWII either contains typos or is irrational. I can't make heads or tails of it. Care to clarify?

WWII a favour? Only if you consider saving your life, your country (Sweden) & your continent when you weren't strong enough to do it yourself. As I said, it's a fact you'd either be speaking German or Russian right now (or your parents would've been killed & you'd never have been born). As I recall, Hitler was steamrolling Europe until America joined the war.

  • @bleunt

I won't make excuses for FDR's self-serving, politically-motivated foot-dragging in WWII. He was a horrible president, and his inaction cost a lost of lives.

That said, the American PUBLIC at large didn't know about the holocaust until late in the war. There was no TV, or Internet, or satellites, or cell phone cams back then. Nor were western news reporters allowed behind enemy lines. Germany was hiding what they were doing, so the American public didn't know.

    FDR? He prolly knew.

  • @bleunt

And I love how some young, wet-behind-the-ears Europeans are so ignorant that they actually think they'd have defeated Germany's war machine without America's help. I guess Churchill begging FDR for more materiel, and to join the war effort, didn't happen? You're clueless.

The global economy is inextricably dependent upon America's economy. China doesn't own the U.S. As of May 2010, China's assets in the U.S. were ~ $867 billion; America's GDP is ~ 14.3 TRILLION.

    "Owns"? LOL

  • @bleunt

As for the Indians, every country has shameful events in its past. That was > 200 years ago, & the people who committed those crimes have ZERO to do with what America subsequently evolved into. Get the hell over it.

We still have the freest society & highest standard of living on earth, and if your country were invaded tomorrow, you'd be begging America & NATO to save you. The U.S. was once a fledgling, nascent society a lot smaller than Sweden. Comparing the two now, well ....
